his make-up is perfect. He looks like he escaped from the pages of a comic book.

I'm actually getting a big Tony Montana vibe from Joker's get-up.

Are we sure SS isn't an 80's period piece?

I can see it :awesome:

I swear, this could honestly be the best on screen version of the Joker we have gotten to date and people are gonna sit back and cry about his makeup and let that ruin the film for them....worse than children

Thank you for providing me an example of the type of behavior I absolutely won't allow on here. Having different opinions is fine but the minute one feels the need to name call is where I will simply hand out an infraction.

There has been multiple warnings and many have chosen to ignore said warnings. From now on it's an immediate infraction and then a ban until the film comes out.

Not in the mood for repeating myself for well over a year.

joker looks absolutely awful. supremely disappointing.

i should note that i think leto will do fine in the role, but aesthetics absolutely matter. and it's unfortunate his design is so poor.

That is fair and necessary.

We have a right to voice our opinion. I've been here 14 years, I know which Mods are doing their jobs correctly.
Voicing your opinion is fine. In fact I'm protecting those who haven't been able to voice their thoughts due to having their views belittled or having personal insults thrown at them.

Having the right to your opinion is one thing, but using that "right" as a way to insult and make fun of someone's opinion on a design isn't exactly how it works.

I would recommend reading our FAQ if you never got a chance to read it.

Opinions are fine and dandy as long as you don't use that as a blank check to do whatever you want because it's your "opinion". That's absolutely ludicrous.

I will say I'm surprised that so many people are disappointed by Letoker's look. To me, he looks phenomenal. It's like I'm watching Frazer Irving Joker going live!

I think it's because everyone was probably thinking he will get the classic, standard Joker.

I was certainly one of those that thought we were going to get a slick, and suave looking Joker. More Rat Pack than Gangsta. I really thought we would simply get modern take on his classic look... But not at all the way it turned out (which I do feel is a modern take on his classic look actually).

Just with some **** scribbled on him :cwink:

I just hope it doens't trickle down to the comics.

Maybe in the next reboot I'll be completely content. Third time's the charm?

I still think it's likely that The Joker's appearance will be "cleaned up" for a future Batman movie.

It's not even about that.

This is an unfortunate side effect of the cultural impact that Ledger's Joker has had. In the minds of the casual "know it all" fans, it's the new archetype. People wanting a knock-off of that same aesthetic just because it's cool, despite it being a major deviation from the source material in of itself. And no doubt these are the same people *****ing on social media about how they get these characters more than the filmmakers.

I completely agree, and it is extremely frustrating for those of us who take a more rounded view of the character and his history.

In a sense, I think that Ledger's grungy, smudged and scarred Joker made some form of outlandish revision for his successor inevitable, because a simple white-skinned man in a purple suit would be judged deficient by those whose impressions were drawn from TDK alone.

I just hope it doens't trickle down to the comics.

The comics have been rubbish for years; I am beginning to be more troubled by the prospect of DC movies being influenced by them.

The Joker looks crazy as ****, as he should.

i still really like the look so far
it's hard to judge the overall look by blurry and bright set pictures when no doubt it will look different on film

This will be another Heath situation, where people will stop worrying about the look when they see him acting in context.

I really hope so. Im on the fence with Leto Joker so far. It's perfect casting but his appearance so far without proper context hasnt won me over yet. Opposite with Ben's Batman, I was on the fence when he was cast, but when he was revealed I was amazed.

It's the one thing that I find strange with Leto's look – they've given us a pretty damn accurate Batman at last, you'd have thought they'd do the same with the Joker – but we can't really say for sure after seeing blurred footage of one scene can we!

mark my words. when the movie is out you all will like the teeth. it will change how Leto pronounces words. because they are so thick the lips will have to move over the them when he talks and it will look very creepy in close up shots.

People are quick to crap on DC for whatever reasons but, IMO, this isn't the Joker anyone expected and I think that's a good thing. I don't mind his look at all, since I'm not married to any certain type of Joker. I care most about the story, acting and final result that is the movie.

Look at ASM, for example. While some didn't like that costume, the majority considered it the most faithful CBM costume and that movie was crap. You don't even hear people say "well, at the least the costume was cool."

All that ultimately matters is that it's close enough to the Joker aesthetic we all recognize (love the hyper green hair) and that a talented actor is playing the part. Hopefully the result is an entertaining movie. If so, the small tat and grill gripes will either be embraced and loved or at least fall by the wayside. That's really what everyone here wants, right?

:hehe:

Another interesting thing to consider is the juxtaposition of a grizzly, warn, battle scared Batman to a somewhat shiny, polished Joker. We haven't seen that contrast yet and I'm looking forward to it.

Yeah. Joker looks rubbish. I don't personally buy the Heath Ledger argument at this stage. I think more people were on board with his look as we saw more of it. It was largely the first couple of shots and the argument about 'perma-white' that there was such a furore at the time. Right now this looks like a pretty good look at Leto's Joker. He's still going to have the tattoos, he still looks weird without eyebrows and I'm not liking his lipstick either. I don't think he's going to look like a great iteration of Joker.

Fingers crossed his performance can make me forget about the look even if it doesn't look great on film, but I just can't jump on the blind faith in Leto bandwagon. No offence to those who do have faith in him, but it's entirely possible for even very talented actors to misjudge their performance and end up with something awful.

So what happened to the people who said that the tattoos were obviously only for that one photo, or swore that they knew that to be the case?

Because I really wish they'd been right.

I don't recall anyone other than The Guard claiming as a certainty that the tattoos were definitely just a 75th anniversary thing. Some of the rest of us thought it might be possible.

Can't recall who, but I think there were a couple of people who were condescending to people who didn't think the Joker tats were just a publicity stunt/alternate design for the 75th anniversary.
