I want a real actors face with cgi enhancements

Look what they did with Javier Bardem in the new Pirates movie. He looks great. It's clearly Bardem with a bunch of cgi touches. Something like that for Darkseid would be perfect.

I don't need a gigantic Darkseid. He honestly wasn't that big in the DCAU. He was probably around 7.5-8 feet

I want that too.
I really think make-up can do the trick, Croc had really great textures in SS. For Darkseid, it could be the same thing but with some CGI enhancements for his body, and phosphorescent eyes, something like what they did for Zod and Batman when he wears his armor.
A trick to double his size like Xerxes in 300 could be great too.
I did a manip based on Jeff Bridges, and I worked with that in mind, keeping reasonable proportions.

Personally I would have no problem with an all-CG Darkseid. But the crucial part if they go that route is motion capture

We need the people who worked on the new Planet of the Apes movies to handle the mo-cap for Darkseid. Every nuance, every movement of the actor's should be used.

As for his appearance, Darkseid has to be regal yet monstrous. Frightening, yet awe-inspiring. Just him showing up is enough for you to stop and take notice. These two fan-manips and the look from Injustice 2 are examples of that.

Any one of these is a good basis for Darkseid's appearance in the DCEU. Personally I like the idea of the Omega Effect light showing through the cracks in his body, not just his eyes.

For me Darkseid needs to at least be MCU Hulk sized which is around 9 feet tall ideally though i'd want him a little bigger skewing closer to 10 feet than to 9.

I find that some versions lacks of certain design elements that make the character's signature. Per exemple, the JL War version doesn't scream Darkseid for me. Also, I like when his suit stay simple and not overly designed.

In terms of style and coloring, DCAU. A simple black and grey-ish blue outfit to contrast his ashen skin. The outfit itself could be a little elaborate but not too overblown.


Size wise, New 52. I agree with TheRedWraith, Darkseid should be around 9 to 10 feet. And for the love of Highfather, please have him wear pants!

His second New 52 outfit is much better than the first, IMO.

I'm liking all this Darkseid talk.

My preference would be for an 8 foot tall Darkseid. I'd rather we get makeup and cgi on a real actor than a full cgi creation. I'm thinking along the lines of Xerxes and Captain Salazar in the new Pirates..Javier Bardem is perfect for the role. For some reason I can really see a rocky version of his face working really well for Darkseid. And obviously he has the voice. I also prefer a version of the classic costume. The beauty of that design is in its simplicity. The New 52 suit feels over-designed.

The voice is so important for Darkseid. I have confidence in Snyder's casting though.

Exactly, and I think this is the case for nearly all of these comic book characters. So far, I'm really happy that the DCEU managed to keep his designs simple... except for some characters in Suicide Squad...

A 10 feet tall darkseid would be no more CGI than an 8 feet tall Darkseid as there is no actor alive that could come close to matching that height.
