L O S T - The Role-Playing Game (OOC Thread)

  • Thread starter Thread starter LostRPG
  • Start date Start date
The RPG picks up one week after the crash. It's mostly so that we can get right into the thick of it, instead of going through the motions of having everyone go "Oh my God, we crashed!".

I think that the opening post should actually be the crash itself. One or both of ya'll should write it and just give an overview of some of the characters in the plane. Just an idea.

I agree. I think that it shouldn't be right into it because then because the characters haven't gone throught the transistion of being in real-life to the island life, so we (The Players) don't either.

That's the plan. The opening post will feature the crash itself.

...So will we still be doing the resource gathering and shelter building? Because as far as I can remember, didn't they have the shelters up, the fuselage burned, and a food supply by day 7 in the show?

To be completely honest, our thinking was that skipping 7 days into the future gave us the chance to have things be set up. But, of course, if you guys want to start from day 1, that's what we'll do. Our main thing was to have an open line between us and the players, so any ideas you have, please shoot them at us.

Waiting a week sounds good to me. That way you can avoid all the boring survival stuff and get right into the mystery.

Well, to be honest, I would prefer to start from Day 1. It'd give everyone a chance to get aquainted, to begin constructing shelters. Just my personal opinion :).

That was our thinking. To avoid the 'starting things up' phase that so often is the death of new RPGs.

Also a very valid point. It could also help some players get into their characters, have them go through the trauma of the crash, instead of being thrust into writing them when they're basically over it (so to speak).

I believe this'll come down to the majority, so let's just put it up to a vote, shall we?

Lost is about the Survival though. That's why it's about being stranded on a desert island. The Monster, the Others and misc. just adds more mystery.

I agree, majority sounds good. I've got my opinion, but if it sways differently, I'm fine with that.

Nice app, Byrd. Glad you decided to join us. Although, when I was reading your application, I envisioned your character as a Bruce Campbell type, not Bill Murray. I like it anywho.

Starting from day 1 of the crash or 7 days after ... tough choice there.

I agree with Climperoonie in the fact that I'd love the idea of having to build a shelter instead of it already built. On the other hand, the "OMG WE CRASHED!!1!!1" factor would get old pretty quickly ...

I know this may seem like a half-assed answer, but what about between day 1 and the first week? Essentially, we don't have to go through a LONG day 1 of everyone screaming their heads off because of the crash, but the date is also early enough so we can still have our character introduce themselves to one another and get to make our shelters. Best of both worlds I think :)

Oh yeah, and someone needs to update the roster :o

I'm not sure I understand why people can't live on the beach for a week, expecting rescue, and then realize nobody's coming anytime soon and build a shelter?

Are we really getting hung up on the issue of tents and shelter in a LOST game?

Ok even if its 1 week after the crash shelters could still be in the process of being built. Theirs still the issue of the introduction of characters though (you figure after 1 week they'd all have met at some point).

Bah, I'll just vote for 1 week after the crash.

Gallagher, you're approved.
...Primarily because I've already put you on the roster.

02/27/09:
Roster updates
  • Added Byrd Man as Chambers and Gallagher as Pace

Front page rule pertaining to character selection edited.

Screen Name: Lunar_Wolf

Character you would like to play: Hugo "Hurley" Reyes

Is this a pre-existing character or self-created?: Pre-existing

Brief history of the character up to the point of the crash of Oceanic Flight 815: As a child, Hugo had a very close relationship with his father, until he left without any explanation. Hurley turned to food for comfort, leaving him overweight as an adult.

As an adult Hurley spent a great deal of time in a mental Institute due to collapsing deck he was standing on broke, killing two people. The dock was meant to hold 8 people, but 23 were standing on it. Reyes blamed his weight for the accident.

Inside the institute, Hurley made up a imaginary friend called Dave, who made him stop taking his pills and to continue to eat when Hugo was meant to be on a diet. Hurley over came Dave.

When Hugo was released, he got his job back at Mr Clucks where he one day did the lotto with numbers, a man named Leonard from the institute kept repeating. To Hugo's surprise, he won! After winning a string of bad events kept happening surrounding the numbers. Hurley returned to the institute to talk to Leonard about the numbers. He reveals that he heard the numbers from Sam Toomey in Kalgoorlie, Australia as he beings to freak out because Hugo ''opened the box''.

Hugo then travelled to Australia to find Toomey who turned out to be dead. His wife told him her husband killed himself believing the numbers were cursed, but she told Hugo, she didn't believe that and that you make your own kind of luck.

Hugo got on flight 815 to return home, where it crashed on the island.

Three reasons why you have chosen that character:

1. Hurley loves most things I do, so that appeals to me most.

2. He has some of the funniest things happen to him, so that would be fun to write.

3. Everybody loves Hurley!

Write two complete sentences using proper English grammar explaining what you think you can bring to the RPG: I enjoy writing scripts, so I hope to bring the ability to write good ideas and dialogue to the game. I'm on the hype almost all the time, so there would be no lagging in the game from me.

How many times do you intend on posting a DAY IN the RPG: As much as possible.

Please provide a sample post in the style that you plan to write your character in (must be at least 3 paragraphs long and contain at least 1 line of dialogue):

Hugo is 13 years old. He is sitting in the living room eating marshmallows, watching Ghostbusters. His mother comes in, giving Hugo a disgust look. She walks over and turns off the TV.

Hugo-Nooo! They were about to kill the Marshmallow man!

Hugo's mother pokes Hurley into the stomach.

Carmen-Your starting to look like this marshmallow man.

Hugo grabs the remote and turns the tv back on. The marshmallow man just exploded.

Carmen-That was messed up. He just... exploded, in front of us.
Maybe you should start that diet I made for you, you might end up like that.

Hugo's Mother walks out of the room. Hurley looks at the marshmallows he is eating them, he stops and puts them down.

Hugo-Dude....

Please post a picture of your character for use on the roster:

Very nice to see someone interested in Hurley. But one thing; In an RPG we don't so much use the style of writing that's used in scripts, but rather that of a book. To see what I mean, check out the sample posts from other applications. Not that I presume to tell you how you should write, but I believe it makes your RPG posts more fluid and easier for the other players to read.

With that said, Approved.

Cool, I can write in book style.

Leave it to Lunar to post an app the day after I edit the roster.

*grumble*

What's happening about the game start? Because Sensei said it comes down to majority and the vote so far I believe is 2 wanting a proper start and 1 wanting seven days after crash.
