"Let Your Soul-Glo": The Experience Returns

I think they suffered a lot of backlash from Hip Hop heads because they received a LOT more mainstream attention than groups who were far better (De La Soul, A Tribe Called Quest).
Ah, the early 90's. Loved the music, but some people back then were hater-ific. God forbid a hip-hop artist or group got too much mainstream success, or everyone would turn against them. It's like MC Hammer. Hammer continued doing what he did from the beginning, but people like Ice Cube accused him of getting too soft and selling out just because his music was all over the mainstream (as if "Turn This Mutha Out" was somehow more hardcore than "Too Legit To Quit"). Things only got worse when Hammer got a Saturday morning cartoon and a Taco Bell endorsement deal.

Then Hammer's career ended, and now Ice Cube is the one making children's movies. Ah, how times have changed.

I think there was a lot more to Hammer getting all the grief than that. Will Smith was getting love from everyone at that point and he was just as squeeky clean as Hammer.

But Will Smith wasn't as rich-- well, he wasn't as visibly rich as Hammer. Hammer was the first rapper to get incredibly flashy and do it big. The huge house, ridiculous tour budget, throwing money around left and right. Sure it ruined him in the end, but who else was flaunting it like Hammer in those days?

Hip Hop is full of haters it seems. Part of it is people wanting to get bigger off the backs of someone's fame, or the regional nature of rap. Rap is like college football in the sense that everyone's favorite is usually from the same region, so when someone else from another region gets popular they get hated on.

I think it's cool that Jay Sean is getting so popular in the US. I don't recall ever seeing a popular artist over here who is Indian (his real name is Kamaljit Singh Jhooti, what a mouthful!).

Jay Sean gets major props from me just for being able to sing and beatbox at the same time.

I love this song, it's on my iPod. Whatever happened to Digable Planets?

They broke up. Butterfly still does music though and he had a brief stint in acting. He's the father of Coko's (the lead singer of SWV) eldest son--who looks just like him. I don't believe they ever got married though.

I was sitting here watching some college basketball and I see this dude playing for Wisconsin rocking a High Top f**king fade. I'm like, dude! It's 2010!!! For some reason it made me angry. Here my lining is starting to runaway from my face, and this *****e is walking around with this abomination on his head. He should be shot....or shaved....or something. :argh: :(

It all comes back full circle.

A high top fade? lol Did he dance around and click heels with another nearby dude?

I was hoping it wouldn't come back until I was dead. :(

I've been shaving my head since like 2000 because I don't feel like dealing with the upkeep of hair, so I'm straight.

My heads not shaped right for a bald head. Something a lot of people who go with the shave should take into account before they decide to do such a thing. :o

I've been growing my hair out to a mini-fro all winter. I was planning to get it all cut off for the Spring, but I might have to do that now because I have a natural part/semi-bald spot that's making my hair look ridiculous.

You guys haven't seen anything until you've seen a guy with a boxhawk. Yeah, a box cut into a Mohawk. I'm not gonna lie, I wanted to whup the kid's ass just for looking like that.

The boxhawk and high top fade are both terrible styles for ANY man of any color. They should not be reinstated to mainstream style. :argh:

I grow mine out in the winter too, Indianapolis gets cold as a muther.
I was at Wal-mart and seen a young boy w/ a box, it was kinda fresh tho. I'm a grown man who wants a mohawk tho, not a Clubber Lang, but the kind that tapers out..that **** is cold.

The only thing that ain't neva commin back is the Jheri. My 2 cousins had one back in the late 80's but they were like 11 an 8 then. They both looked ****ing rediculous

^ And that will be my cue to leave the country and live abroad for a while. :o

Goddamn, I remember Kid had that fade and to make it worse it got wider in House Party 2. I don't know what's worst, a high top fade like that or the Gumby fade.

And is it just me or is Mr. T the only black man who can properly rock a mohawk? It's the one stripe of hair and none on the sides, seems like everyone I see trying to do it tend to forget the part about no hair on the sides.

Me too. Its been too damn cold to get a haircut this winter with all the snow. Last time I cut my hair was november.

One time I shaved my head completely bald and I mean like zero hair and my white friends where calling me the black kurt angle for a month :whatever:

A load of black soccer players over here have been rocking mohawks for the last couple of years. Still its better than Chelsea and African soccer player didier drogba hair or belgian Everton player fellaini huge afro

Oh yeah, I knew about this already, my girl told me about it like last month.

They sound good, but they don't look too good anymore. I'd rather have them still sound good as opposed to spending a ton of money on plastic surgery while losing their voices in the process.
