"Let Your Soul-Glo": The Experience Returns

I decided to abstain from the Oscars this year. I've been trying to avoid the no doubt frustrating news of unfair wins and losses like a case of Angries Simplex. But with everyone around me talking about it, I'm catching it anyway like some sort of lip contact.

Yep. I just compared the Oscars to herpes.

So...Mo'Nique took home the Academy Award for Best Supporting Actress. What do you all think of that? I felt her acceptance speech was okay...I was expecting more for some reason. Maybe Halle's 2001 speech kinda set the bar a little high but...anyway. However, I do believe that Mo'Nique deserved the award.

[blackout]Hated the dress. She looked like a damn blueberry.[/blackout]

Your collective thoughts?

I really don't care about her or the Academy Awards. The Oscars are just a group of people giving their opinion of movies, and somehow millions of people accept their opinions as better than their own. I don't watch it because I don't value their biased opinions at all. As for Monique, I really don't have a desire to watch Precious to see her performance. I'm not much into her or anything that she does. /rant

I remember someone who was part of the Academy admitted on TV that they didn't watch all of the movies that were nominated, but instead voted based on Oscar Buzz. In other words, the rumors themselves decide who wins.

Hey, what's the name of the young black actress that was also nominated for Best Actress (she played Mo'Nique's daughter in Precious)?

I forget her name but she is getting a tremendous amount of flack in the talk-backs because of her weight. Now, I must admit--she is grossly obese (ergo, dangerously unhealthy), but that is not a reflection on her talent. She seems to be a wonderful spirit and clearly she's gifted. To be in the same category with Meryl Streep your first time out is nothing to sneeze at, and this could be only the beginning for this young lady.

However, I do wonder if her body weight is going to pigeon-hole her into similar roles for years to come? My thoughts are...she needs to lose that weight. She was sweating so badly in her dress and it was soiled everywhere. And she's had the problem at the previous awards shows too. I know many say that Big is Beautiful, but...I dunno in this case.

That movie isn't my kind of entertainment, and I luv Monique. She's been gettin a lil heavy in her attempt to largely cross over, by heavy I men how much goin on about her husband and finding love and a whole lotta yea,yea B.s. I don't find her that funny anymore. I don't watch award shows( not u B.E.T. Awards woo woooooot!), but I caught a piece of her speech..did she joke @ all, I kno how serious the role was.

As far as ol girl, I think she's bein set up for a fall, I mean how much work she thinks she's gone get?! She could get a role pointing in the sky and say "go Spiderman!!" Tariji P. Henson don't work as much as shed like I'm sure, how is the Precious star gone feel over the next year. I ain't gone post bad bout the sista, but she is large L.S....she got so much face...I will say if she were white I bet she'd work even less. I can't speak about her talent, I assume she nailed it. Its kinda like Emenem playin in 8 mile IMO. I hope she continues to work, but she doesn't look comfortable in her skin.

I mean, you see her interviewed, she's a pretty funny chick, she has a real nice personality...but I hate to say, you kinda have to in that case. They casted her in that role for a reason, due to the way the character looked in the book, so hey.

For her health it'd be a good idea for her to lose weight, but not so much for her career. While it's true the movie biz is less apt to hire someone her size, she could get plenty of work as a stage actress.

I be laid up w/ the new chick and she got cable, I've never seen Unsung on TV1, its good. Jodie Watley is mofo Hott as hell as an old lady. Damn, she's almost hotter now than when she was solo.

:funny: You have no sense. But you're right. She does have a LOT of face...it just spreads from east to west.

The thing that concerns me is her choice of clothing. Her stylist should be fired. She keeps wearing blue and it's not a good color on her--especially considering that she sweats and soils her gowns so much. The sweat-soaked spots really show up and...I dunno...in that color I can't help but think of...

I don't mean to be mean. I think she's talented...but she needs to pull a Kelly Price real quick and get rid of that bloatfulness. :csad:

I hope she continues to work, but she doesn't look comfortable in her skin. [/font]

Can you blame her? I'd be self-concious too, with all those cameras--not to mention Oprah--fixated on my imperfections. But if she loses the weight she'd be a temporary success story...and then she'll lose all the appeal she had in the first place. They casted her because of her big-ness.

She can afford to lose a pound or two. If she buckles down and hires a personal trainer, she'll be fine. Hell, Hollywood will love her for it. They'll turn against her if she gets the gastric bypass surgery, though.

As for soiling her clothes, a fashionable little coat goes a long way to cover sweat stains.

Pretty much.

Having said that, I don't think it was an exceptional performance by any means.

You can tell how full of **** the Oscars are by the performances and films that DON'T win. Some of the most influential films and performances have gotten shafted.

I know it's mean, but I personally think Howard is just keepin it real.

While recapping the Academy Awards on his Sirius satellite radio show Monday, Howard Stern said some controversial words about best actress nominee Gabourey Sidibe.
Stern, focused on the part of Sunday's show when the camera cut to the five actresses up for the Oscar, including Sidibe, whom he referred to as "the most enormous, fat black chick I’ve ever seen."
"You feel bad because everyone pretends that she’s part of show business and she’s never going to be in another movie," Stern added. "What movie is she going to be in? ‘Blind Side 2,’ she could be the football player.”

Howard accused Oprah Winfrey, who introduced Sidibe at the Oscars when the best actress nominees were announced, of lying to Sidibe. “When we look at you,” Winfrey told the 26-year-old from the Oscars stage, “we see a true, American Cinderella who’s on the threshold of a brilliant new career.”
Stern disagreed. “She told an enormous woman the size of a planet that she’s going to have a career,” he said during his broadcast. “Oprah should’ve said, ‘you need to get help, we don’t want to lose you.’ "
For Stern, Sidibe’s size is not just a problem for her career, but her health as well.
“You just want to say to her, listen, honey, now that you’ve got a little money in the bank go get yourself thin, because you’re going to die in three years,” he said.
A recording of the show has been posted on YouTube, and reactions have ranged from disgust to agreement.
One YouTube user commented that Stern was only saying what everyone else is thinking, while another found Stern’s remarks, regardless of their validity, to be unnecessary. Another wrote, “It’s not like what he’s saying is totally untrue, but he’s so rude and mean about it.” A Gone Hollywood blogger said that while he isn't going to pretend that Sidibe won't have a hard time in Hollywood because of her size, it looks like Stern is picking on an easy target.

Song's got a nice rhythm to it, and the singing isn't bad. It's got that catchy feel in a sense that it's something you can sing for a bit daily, but it's not catchy in the sense that you hate yourself for listening to it in the first place. I favorited it on YT, so I definitely felt it.

Was Howard crude and tactless? Yes.

Was Howard telling the truth? Absolutely.

I hate to say it but...she's the biggest black chick I'VE ever seen too! She's totally round. And he's right: if she doesn't get it under control, she will die. I'd be surprised if she doesn't already have high blood pressure, diabetes and any number of other poisons. At such a young age, it's sad. :csad:

I just saw these mofos in concert last night:

They f**king ROCKED IT. I have never had so much fun in my life at a concert. In fact...I think it was the best concert I've EVER attended...they were so hype and redonkulous. The crowd was like...having a party in the aisles. And when the half-way mark of "I'ma Be" came on, everyone lost it.

blackeyedpeasendkickoff.jpg

And their costumes! OMFG! How crunk are these people????:up:

Ah, the Peas. I remember when they had more than one decent song per album.

I dunno Manic. I think they are at their zenith now actually. LOTS of decent songs on the current CD.
