It's being released in China May, which is frankly a better release date. Going up against Guardians 2 is why better than going up against Furious 8.

But its still lacking the CGI / Action / Spectacle stuff they love out there it will be odd if Rogue One fails but this is a success out there

China doesn't give a damn about Star Wars, that's why I don't bring up Star Wars when talking about how American blockbusters do in China.

I knows this. My point is why would they be impressed with what Power Rangers is offering?

They won't be impressed. I don't think it's going to do all that well in China. It has nothing in common with the movies that do well in China. If it did well in China it would be an outlier because it doesn't have what other Blockbusters had.

Oh well, maybe this is a blessing in disguise. This'll give Saban and the studio time to regroup and re-assess how to handle this the next time they inevitably try again with the franchise in 10 years. The tragedy of it all is the great Ranger cast is now wasted and we'll never see their full potential and these actors will now be associated with a flop.

At least the next time they try it theres trust in them finding a good cast

I guess technically could they try again with a new team, new planet, new galaxy etc ? Taking the sequel right into Space right away ups the ante a bit. Trying something different with different teams & what not might be something they can do. Why not try an off Planet Space adventure before diving into Tommy plenty of excuses they can come up with to either A) Get this current team into or B) Do something new entirely in Space

Even if the quality is improved, bringing in a new team isn't going to solve the problem. First impressions mean a lot, and based on this, people would still be largely uninterested.

The general good thing about Power Rangers is the action is not all on Earth / Milky Way so if one thing does not work they could technically try something else if they really wanted to & spice things up

the thing is power rangers only appeals to power rangers to power rangers fans, so after power rangers fans saw it, that was it the general audience don't care for power rangers

it's saban's fault because he never grew the show up with the audience, power rangers is known as a goofy kids property and that's the king of box office he got

That sucks!!! Such an amazing cast just wasted! :/ I really wanted a sequel too :waa::waa::waa:

Dacre has Stranger Things and Becky G has her music career plus an upcoming movie so they are doing fine currently, its the other three that I haven't heard much about.

Point is, no matter what they do, if audiences aren't interested enough to buy tickets it won't matter. Even if a new team is formulated and taken to another galaxy, audiences aren't going to care. This right here was their opportunity to expand on the Power Rangers audience & make a smash-hit. It flopped. Doing another film with a new cast in a new galaxy isn't going to change that or suddenly perform better.

Imagine what could have been if Valerian surprises people take a movie like that & make it Power Rangers (sighs) stupid Lions Gate

if power rangers makes $5,000,000 or more opening weekend in south korea, then expect china to make $40,000,000 + opening weekend and follow with a big opening in japan

This is not their type of movie it wont do well give it up

A possibility I do not see coming to fruition. I don't think any of those territories will care much (if at all) about PR.

Yep, this was their shot. They got together a good cast and they had part of the right idea by focusing on the characters (well three of them at least) but then they had the wrong idea to structure the film like a YA novel adaptation with a villain whose hamminess felt out of place compared to the grounded performances every one else was giving. Power Rangers should have been treated like a big Superhero film.

This movie is lacking in what those audiences crave & thats CGI, Action, Spectacle they wont see this or the ones that do see it likely wont care / recommend it

no one in their right mind was giving power rangers $180,000,000 budget, power rangers was seen as a joke in hollywood until the movie did 40+ OW,

That's what I thought when this got announced. It's almost like they got two thirds of the project together and then started stumbling and falling apart for the rest.

Given the over-the-top performances usually given for PR villains, they should've known better than to have Banks ham it up. Sad thing is, even if this flopped, I would've thought she'd have been one of the more positive aspects about this but (while some blame falls on her) thanks to the script and direction.

With the target audience and the team aspect of the film, they should've been taking cues from The Avengers in balancing the feeling of the movie & creating a memorable villain performance. But, like you said, they took their YA inspiration and ran with it.

Only 42M OS in 3 weeks is bad. Like I said the movie be lucky to make 150-170 WW total.

The reality is Power Rangers needs that kind of budget to be done right if they half ass it like this attempt you get to where they are now

it's not that bad momo, without Asia resident evil would be a bomb

But Resident Evil has what that audience wants & that is Crazy, CGI, Action, Spectacle what is something that Power Rangers does not have & one scene & not a good one will not cut it for them why would they bother ?

If they do go ahead with a sequel I honestly wouldn't be surprised if it was through somekind of Netflix deal. There is no effing way another one of these movies gets a $100M budget let alone $150M-$180M. It will probably be made for around $40-$50M at best which is a lot cheaper, but it's the only reasonable way I see a new rebooted franchise surviving.
