If they do go ahead with a sequel I honestly wouldn't be surprised if it was through somekind of Netflix deal. There is no effing way another one of these movies gets a $100M budget let alone $150M-$180M. It will probably be made for around $40-$50M at best which is a lot cheaper, but it's the only reasonable way I see this franchise surviving.

Why would people watch a cheap YA version of Power Rangers when theres a proper one on Nick ? They wont watch a cheap version with little action lol

if anything power rangers is gonna be on starz, since that is lionsgate version of hbo

It would be a mistake having a second show on TV & cheap & YA when people would just prefer the Nick version people just do not care about Power Rangers enough

Netflix doesn't want Power Rangers.

Got to love the denial from some PR fans. Can't admit when a movie flopped. lol

I mean the Smurfs made more money OS then PR has. If they really want to know why no sequel will happen. They should ask Saban/Lionsgate why they didn't do a better job promoting the movie OS.

Or they should ask why they did not make a movie that would speak to that audience & give that audience what they want this movie is not it

Lol well when you put it like that I guess not, but hey atleast I tried. I was just trying to come up with something to where they could get the cast to return, but if not than their better off not doing it. I don't see Starz or HBO being interested either.

power rangers has underperformed in majority white countries, and overperformed in non white countries,

Because Saban is cheap. $125 million should've have been sufficient, if they didn't have to waste CGI on the Ranger battles, to get a little more action in there. But now, they went with the god awful Iron Man suits that need to light up, and you can't really do martial arts real well in them. Also fighting CGI creations.

when power rangers does 50 million opening weekend in china , momo is gonna start deleting his posts

I actually wasn't a fan of the movie and haven't been a PR fan since I was a kid if that comment was directed at me. You can't blame a guy for trying to be optimistic can you? lol

no one in their right mind was giving power rangers $180,000,000 budget, power rangers was seen as a joke in hollywood until the movie did 40+ OW,
You think it isn't a joke anymore? They just cost a lot of people a lot of money and this movie has no legs...

Shouldve just done the standard reported budget of $150 mill.

lionsgate made their money back, their international partners are upset they lost money, but this was never a sure thing

and this all is maybe because asia may do 180 million

You can't make up your mind if Lionsgate is a problem or not. One minute it is how they messed everything up, the next is how it is going to open to 50m in China. A number that probably wouldn't be enough anways. Because even with a 150m from the rest of Asian countries left, this movie wouldn't pass 300m.

This movie didnt feel like it cost $100 mill. I mean, how much could those actors have cost? There weren't a ton of locations in the film. It was a very enclosed and intimate film. You mean to tell me $80 mill+ went into that 20 min finale? Is CGI that expensive nowadays? ( its a genuine question, I've been curious about the cost of modern cgi)

Those CGI dependent suits were indeed a waste of cash. There was no reason for them. The focus should have been on well choreographed martial arts action and then the big robot action finale.

Well no, Lionsgate hasn't make its money back yet. And secondly, yeah those international partners, they matter a little bit for a movie that needed them to get financed in the first place.

Say it does 200m in the rest of Asia left. How will that change all the money lost by everyone else? The sequel going to be financed solely by Asian distributors?

Cheap looking movies can be expensive when you don't know how to handle your money. One of the great things about Nolan is he almost always comes in under budget, with movies that look mint and have loaded cast.

It still blows my mind when Marvel movie budgets are said, because they never look that expensive. Poor looking digital film making.

no one knows what it is gonna do in asia, and anyone one that tells you they do is lying, this isn't over

my issues with the movie creative decisions are diff. from box office

I'm curious too

Green Lantern flashbacks

It's not a win for Lionsgate to make money but their overseas partners lose money.

short answer yes

Lionsgate hasn't made any money yet. Even if you think they only spent 60m on their part of the budget, marketing and distribution, that is still not been close to made back. They have made less then 80m in the US, Canada and UK combined.

I don't even think Lionsgate had faith in the film. From their lack of marketing. To before it was released saying they be happy with 20-25M opening week. To putting it up against Disney BATB. It just screamed. Let's get this movie over with and move on.
