I'm hoping for blu ray and maybe worldwide, but man, maybe Lionsgate should just greenlight a part 2 with no part 3 set up.

Well I hate it when movies have sequel set ups, when they don't know how successful or not that movie will be to warrant a sequel.

Also a part 2 could improve everything from part 1.

But they have no incentive to

Listen, I love The Nice Guys from last year. Love, love, love it.

But I'm not gonna say "WB should make a sequel" when the first one didn't make any money. THat's silly

When has it happened that a film that didn't make money got a sequel? Especially a franchise starter with middling reviews and low audience engagement

That much? The example I can think of is Superman Returns. 204 million budget, USD made 200 Million; disappointed, and that was enough to generate a follow up. A sequel was developed, cancelled, and a reboot was decided with Man of Steel.

Huh?

But the Superman Returns sequel never happened. Sure they always claimed "It's coming" but that doesn't count.

I thought you were going to bring up Batman Begins. But that at least had the DVD sales (the home video market isn't what it used to be so I wouldnt count on that for PR) and people LOVED that movie.

Batman and Superman were proven properties though.

People need to face the fact Power Rangers, specifically MMPR, was a largely American phenomenon. Asia had Super Sentai for decades and ZyuRanger was a single version.

There is no evidence Green Ranger has the pull of a Joker or even Lex to gain people's attention.

Its a shame they played it so safe, not to say that would have made a difference at the box office but at least we would have one interesting PR film.

Insurgent

Insurgent mightve made a little money tho.
And Compare it to PR. Insurgent grossed almost 300 mill. PR hasn't even grossed 150.
Does Edge of Tomorrow count?

Edge of Tomorrow had great WOM and positive word
and more importantly the sequel hasn't happened yet. And them saying "we're working on it" doesn't mean a thing

Insurgent was already quite far into production, with sunk costs. There are problems with going full tilt on a franchise with yearly releases. Insurgent numbers likely caused them to slow down production on the 4th movie, with the third out right killing it.

The Nice Guys is the kind of movie you can make a sequel to based on critical acclaim. This movie had neither critical acclaim nor did it make any money.

Hey all you PR fans, Jeremy Jahns just retweeted this.

Apparently theyre doing a tweet campaign to get a sequel to this.

Will it work? Nah...No..Not a chance. But I participated in Dredd Day knowing that wouldn't work so I'm just letting y'all know

A tweet campaign? Is there money involved? lol I mean this wont help anything.

It gets even better, so Kevin Smith just liked this on Twitter.

Are Twitter hashtags enough to create demand for a sequel? I mean they made a movie, and not enough people showed up.

If you have to organize a twitter campaign to get a sequel, I think we can assume it didn't make enough money to guarantee one.

The movie still dramatically under-performed. Fox wanted their own Harry Potter. They didn't get it.
Of course. But Fox also didn't craft a movie on the level of Harry Potter. They got cheap and didn't hire the talent outside of the actors. Columbus wasn't responsible for Potter's success, as the ability to continue to make successful movies after him showed.
