This didn't look Bayformers ish at all and I mean that as a good thing and a bad thing

This is an interesting charge. Especially as you seemed convinced this was going to be good before you ever saw it.Probably not. But I'm also certain he won't go into it with a fresh view (and unbiased) due to having basically read about the whole movie here. Shame.
I think it looks like the Marvel flicks and Bayformers, just really cheap. Like you know where the inspiration came from, just not nearly to the same quality. This didn't look Bayformers ish at all and I mean that as a good thing and a bad thing

I am confused, what isn't totally fair? That's not totally fair to Marvel. I like their design work, though it feels like they're being designed by the same team. As much as I like the Black Panther teaser, when I saw the rooms of his royal palace, it sorta looks like Thor and Guardians. My only beef would be the Chitauri. An army of bleep-blips running around with no distinct features.
I don't like the intricate design all that much for Bayformers, but it looks extremely well polished. Like it all looks very high end and expensive, way more then Marvel, which can at times look cheap.I think Marvel has great design work. But then I feel like sometimes their set designs feel like they're coming from the same team. Where as I think Bayformers design work in full sorta sucked from the get-go. Even with Bay leaving, it won't change anything with the next few films.
How does Transformers make ILM look like they are wearing thin? Also a big problem with the Marvel flicks and such is the practical work. With ILM, they are wearing themselves thin, even with their A team. It's just that it takes time to develop new software to push the envelope. When that happens, then artists have to learn and adapt to it. That takes time and money.
If they have projects hitting them nonstop, then they develop new tools. And if they do, it'll be a slow burn. So now it's up to WETA, or even the smaller companies like Double Neg, Framestore, MPC, etc to handle the part, which later gets integrated into the community (unless it's propitiatory).
Not that I am aware of.Didn't ILM work on this movie?
They clearly threw a real one, and probably filmed it for reference. But the one that is picked up (the shot of the guy standing next to it) is at least partially CGi, if not full on CGI. Its very clear imo. The damage gives it away.Is this the Bumblebee Camaro? If so, that was real. I remember seeing it in set photos/videos iirc.

Taking a different approach is not the same as taking the approach they did. That is what some seem to fail to understand with the reception and box office this movie ended up with. This was not an either or situation. They could take a different approach, while still respecting the originals, and being really good. Then I'd like to at least see him torture himself watching the Neo-Saban era (essentially MMPR made modern, same showrunners, producers, writers etc) and then watch acclaimed seasons like In Space, Lost Galaxy, Time Force and RPM and then read the Boom Comics and finally understand why they needed to take a different approach in making this movie.
