Lionsgate "Power Rangers" - Part 8

So much *****ing. I love this poster, actually. The colors are vibrant and warm, and I love the power rangers bolt silhouette in the sky. Also the tag line and the fact that the rangers aren't in their suits is alluding to the idea that this will be more character-driven and we will care about these individual human beings. And as we should, I have high hopes! :)

I respect your opinion to like the poster, but it's a discussion forum and we all don't have to agree and like it.

I want the movie to be great, but it's hard for me to have high hopes on modern Hollywood nailing this. For one, I'm just not sure if a live-action movie with a budget like this will work. But we'll see.

120 mil budget should be fine for a first installment of a PR movie especially with WETA as the effects team.

The costumes and director already have me side eyeing this production. That lame as hell teaser poster is yet another thing to side eye.

I don't mind the teaser poster. It sells the idea that they're a team in a simple image and I love the tagline with the symbol in the stars.

I actually like it too. I like the design aesthetic more than most teen YA novel turned movies anyway.

Now here's a FAR better version of the teaser poster. All it needs is the #PowerRangersMovie hashtag.

The teaser poster gives me "we're ashamed to be making a superhero movie even though it's 2017 and every person on the planet watches superhero movies" vibes.

Interesting observation.

Given how far the Power Rangers are up on the superhero totem pole, this movie wouldn't have even been made if they were remotely afraid of the superhero aspects.

I wasn;t sure what to think of the teaser poster but when someone broke it down i was like holy crap that's an awesome poster

Considering the budget of the original was $15 mil, that's a gigantic increase. I loved the first film personally and still do, so I'm fine budget-wise. I'm not looking for 'Pacific Rim' scale personally, that should be saved for toward the end like always.

What's awesome is the poster has a classic Amblin vibe of hinting that there's something beyond the stars calling to them. In a way, that whole idea brings this to mind:

And for a teaser, I honestly have no idea what people expected since we're a year away. Typically year away posters are just logos or titles over black or granite, did those complaining want what 99% of teaser posters a year off do? I'm more than thrilled with the poster because it's more than what 99% of other movies give this far off.

As the year progresses then we'll start to see them in their suits and zords on posters - but right now that's blowing their load way too soon. The idea is to make you want to see those poster and see more material, to tease you about something they're not ready to show you yet. That's the whole idea, especially a year away. So, I'm happy they didn't just give us a lightning bolt over black because that's what 99% of other films would have done and still do this far off or they could have been as cheap with it as other blockbusters - only printing the title over black. Instead they gave something which is a rarity and a win in my book.

The budget of the original was also $15 million 1995. Also, in 1995 the FX looked bad and cheesy.

I doubt inflation went that up, it was made on the cheap. The cheesy effects were part of the fun of it. With that said, it was still beyond cool and that final fight was very awesome - at least to me. I can see needing a lot of money for the Zords, but that should be towards the end with the focus on physical fighting which will need money for some potential monsters, but I don't see it truly needing that high of a budget. I just want to see the zord once and that's at the end just like in the movie and just like in the show - that way it's a real fist pump moment when it happens.

Yeah I hope to see the Zords getting individual screen time before Megazord.

I agree with you about everything but the poster.

I don't think the poster is bad, but if I was walking by in the theater I would have no idea what the movie is. I would've made something from PR that catches the average movie goers eye
