Man of Steel Box Office Prediction Thread - Part 10

Agreed, back to topic. I don't want to bash Marvel; I may not be a fan of all their ideas but I still really love what they've done and I can't wait for Avengers 2 and their other films.

Anyway, the July 4th weekend will be interesting to watch. I'm hoping that MOS can pull in $15M+, though competition will be stiff. It might not be too bad though, since WHD flopped and The Lone Ranger is looking like it could be a dud. The latter I'm not sure of though; people do love Johnny Depp. But it doesn't seem to be a film that appeals to that many people. Westerns are always a question mark at the box office and even the ones that have done well (3:10 to Yuma, True Grit) weren't exactly blockbusters.
The weekend will be touch and go. Mainly because I have no idea what is going to happen between Wednesday and Friday.

But it would be great if MoS could possibly pull off $30mil+ for the week.

Why do I think of Pride and Prejudice?
I know we are both straight males, but will you marry me? :awesome:

Lizzie's response to Georgiana mentioning Darcy liking her piano playing, even though it is pretty bad. My favorite moment of flirting probably ever.

:woot::hrt: I loved that moment so much. So much for staying on-topic. :hehe:

At this point 700+ is a lock. WW stands now at $520 and there is at least $50 more domestic which brings the total to $570. Big markets like Brazil and Japan (plus minor markets) yet to open can bring another $50-$100 million. That would bring the total to $620-$670.

And you still have got major markets which are on week 1 (Australia, France etc.) or week 2. So at this point I believe $800 million is within reach.

Pride and Prejudice. Possibly my fiance's most prized, adored film ever made, lol. Anyway, eager to see where MOS lands this upcoming weekend.

Well, don't worry guys. Whether it ends up at $700 million, $800 million, whatever... a certain BIASed person will still be calling it a failure. ;)

Yeah, that was arduous. I mean, come on Joe Johnston, you've done better than that before.

To me, Captain America is the weakest MCU film to date.

At least that montage gives me some Power Rangers nostalgia.

But seriously, $700 million is very likely. $800 Million isn't off the table either, but I'll stick with $700 million.

Really, for a reboot? Nolan/ Goyer have used the same strategy as the Batman trilogy and will bring, arguably, the worlds favourite villan for the sequel. That worked tremendously for TDK, with the Joker only on the sequel, and will defintely work here. Build up will be huge and 1 billion + for MOS 2 is almost guaranteed.

I agree, the sequel could be as big as TDK, though I would argue that Lex isn't quite the draw that the Joker was. That's partially due to the way he's been mishandled FOUR times in other Superman movies, but it's also due to the fact that people out there have a sicker sense of humor than they care to admit. People like the Joker because deep down, there is something amusing about a psychopath killing people and cracking jokes about it (as long as its fictional). Luthor is different from that and could lead some cynics to conclude that he isn't as interesting.

So I think the best thing to do with MOS 2 is to introduce Luthor but not make him the primary villain; have another character like Metallo or Brainiac be the main threat, with Superman perhaps only realizing how bad Lex is at the end and then setting up a big showdown in MOS 3 or JL.

I would be really happy if it place above TASM reboot so it would be the no.1 reboot of all time
and then everytime someone would say that TASM is a better movie we would show them the numbers correct? that it made more money . :hehe:

I don't know why everyone seems hell bent on pitting MOS and TASM against each other. It's a flame war over at CBM.

I liked both movies. Is that not allowed or something? Sheesh.

Sounds good to me :) He will definetely be in MOS 2, and I think you underestimate Luthor's charisma. I believe it will be a huge draw. Perhaps not like TDK but impressive nonetheless.

Here in 'Murica it's going to pass TASM by at least Thursday so there's that. :hehe:

Captain America needed some more makeup in Avengers movie. :o

But, staying on topic 700 mil. looks within reach, and that's a good number.

Oh, I hope it will be great and rake in the cash. I just think they would do better to feature a threat we haven't seen before in any capacity, in addition to Lex.
