At this point 700+ is a lock. WW stands now at $520 and there is at least $50 more domestic which brings the total to $570. Big markets like Brazil and Japan (plus minor markets) yet to open can bring another $50-$100 million. That would bring the total to $620-$670.

And you still have got major markets which are on week 1 (Australia, France etc.) or week 2. So at this point I believe $800 million is within reach.

It's on week 2 in France (movie opened on wed 19th) and is likely to make around half of Iron Man 3's overall business here. MoS should end with around 17/19 millions, wich is well above Superman Returns' 12 millions but far below recent tentpole cbm's such as The Avengers, The Dark Knight Rises or Iron Man 3 wich all made more than 35 millions. It will likely fall short of The Amazing Spider-Man's 22 millions as well.

Have both weeks been acounted for on the BO numbers?

I agree, the sequel could be as big as TDK, though I would argue that Lex isn't quite the draw that the Joker was. That's partially due to the way he's been mishandled FOUR times in other Superman movies, but it's also due to the fact that people out there have a sicker sense of humor than they care to admit. People like the Joker because deep down, there is something amusing about a psychopath killing people and cracking jokes about it (as long as its fictional). Luthor is different from that and could lead some cynics to conclude that he isn't as interesting.

So I think the best thing to do with MOS 2 is to introduce Luthor but not make him the primary villain; have another character like Metallo or Brainiac be the main threat, with Superman perhaps only realizing how bad Lex is at the end and then setting up a big showdown in MOS 3 or JL.

I hope they do the viral marketing that they did for TDK, which was superb.

The Gotham News Network interviews were amazing. It gave you a background of how things were before Harvey Dent got elected. The Comminsioner (before Gordon)was interviewed, the campaign directors going at each other, the Dent gave a sit down interview. It was awesome.

They have to do the same with MOS2, get politicians, religious groups, government representatives to chime on the alien invasion and Superman's presence in this world. Thats fires up a fanbase.

I was soooooooooooo into that when TDK did it.

Those films are sequels. So its not a surprise to me.

Lex being the villain offers a perfect strategy for an awesome viral campaign.

:woot::hrt: I loved that moment so much. So much for staying on-topic. :hehe:
Pride and Prejudice. Possibly my fiance's most prized, adored film ever made, lol. Anyway, eager to see where MOS lands this upcoming weekend.
It might just be my favorite movie. It is either P&P or Empire. If you had told me that 10 years ago, I would have laughed in your face. But I really, really love Joe Wright's P&P. Got me through a hard time in my life. The acting, cinematography, editing, music, etc. I love every last bit of it.

And yeah, we suck at staying on topic. :D

Someone who is a little TOo BIASed...
This is so bad, it is good.

MoS is starting to look more and more like a success. Guess the doom and gloom of weekend number 2 wasn't necessary after all. :hehe:

I just wanna see Cavill and Amy together again in the sequel! So I'm gonna support this movie during 4th of July weekend. God bless Superman and God bless 'Murica!!

It is funny the things we get attached to, but that is one of them for me as well. I need to see them together again, especially further along in their relationship. :funny:

Heading for at least $700 million. I went to a special screening in Brazil before July 14 launch and all theathers were packed at around midnight with two weeks until the official opening.

This is how it usually goes with CBMs (with some exceptions). At first people are optimistic, then they see unexpected drops and declare the movie is a failure and list all its faults, then the movie starts doing well again and people are optimistic again, then there is another drop and people declare the movie a failure yet again. :whatever:

It is really funny reading the BO forums, months after the movie is released. :funny:

and then everytime someone would say that TASM is a better movie we would show them the numbers correct? that it made more money . :hehe:
As a Superman and MOS fan I want to have some bragging rights against the Marvel fandom and say "I'll show you the money"

Yeah, because I totally wasn't talking about domestic grosses. :funny:

As a fan of both DC and Marvel, I don't give two toots either way...

Man Of Steel defeated Batman Begins, Iron Man and both Spiderman reboots at the box office. MOS2 is on the way to clean up the rest.

Weekend Actuals are finally in for MOS:

Friday: 6,008,588
Saturday: 8,363,785
Sunday: 6,365,117

Total: 20,737,490

Friday-Saturday was a +39% and Saturday-Sunday was a -24%. Hopefully, this indicates good WOM to carry it through past 300M. :yay:

Yeah, I'm the same way. I want both brands to do well. It shouldn't be viewed as a competition, because if movies (on either side) start tanking at the box office, it's bad for the genre as a whole.

Being from the UK I'm not that bothered about the domestic total. Europe knows how to treat its heroes ;)
