I'm the newer generation... so watching STM and STM 2 now isn't all that good or relatable for me. Boring and cheesy.

How old do you think we all are?

Yeah, no kidding. I'm 24 for god's sake, and I love those movies.

I have a weird relationship with STM and Superman II. When I haven't watched them in a while, I get all nitpicky and rude about them. And then I watch them, and they are suddenly two of my favorite films I have ever seen.

There is nothing quite like them.

Indeed, I'm much the same way with several of movies.

WW total? We close to 650 yet?

So the foreign totals haven't been updated?

Alot said this would be OUR BB, and it is, only it has a much bigger BO. WB may be waiting to see if the hunger for a sequel is there, and how the DvD sales do before announcing anything. Thats what they did with BB, but im kinda surprised they havent came out already and announced anything. It did meet and pass what they said they expected from its BO..

The thing is, for detractors to call this movie a success, it needs to get to a milestone. I am pretty sure if it gets $680 million or $690 million instead of $700 million, some people are going to use that against the movie.

Doesn't matter because even if the movie does $700M then those detractors would just say that if it was better it should have done $800M. And if it did $800M they would say if it was better it should have done $1B etc.... To quote Adrian from Rocky 4, "You can't win!" ;)

These july numbers are pretty sad imo.
Would have been a great time to release MOS.

Superman Returns DOMINATED the dvd sales. So I guess the dvd sales are not a factor.

It won't make a difference. June record. Reboot record. Most action-packed superhero film ever made (astonishing, considering its an origin film). Made IronMan3 look low-key. Game set and match.

Yeah, having dominant DVD/bluray sales really doesn't mean much these days. Effects heavy films usually do really well regardless of overall quality.

I'm going to be honest, high BO > breaking records.

If this movie had a $210 million opening and ended up with $500 million WW (not likely but still) I doubt WB would be like "oh the movie didn't do so well but we broke the Avengers record and that is the most important thing."

Avatar's relatively low opening weekend makes its WW gross even more impressive. It shows it had phenomenal legs. I would take that over a record breaking opening weekend any time. Not that MOS isn't doing well, but it breaking the June record isn't as impressive (IMO anyway) as it's WW gross.

I'm sure you already know this, but ...

Foreigns don't typically get updated on a daily basis, and you get the total amount for a week on Sunday. It usually takes a couple of days after that to get the individual break down from each country.

I'm a gigantic Man of Steel fan, was even on tv in my city giving a review after the Wednesday night screening, but it's really slowed down in the foreign market, and especially in some places where one would hope it would excel by sheer population of the nation alone, it's done poor for whatever reason -- e.g. Russia/Germany, perhaps the Americanism in the film, and residual disdain for the various comics where Supes crushed the Nazis and Stalin? :oldrazz:

I wouldn't really say over $300 million is poor. It's done very well in China, UK and Australia. I expect $40 million-$50 million more foreign.

Really? if I recall correctly its DvD sales were lackluster..One of the reasons it didnt get a sequel and BB ( great DvD sales btw) did.
I remember the sales were pretty good at first but dropped pretty fast.

Superman Returns DVD sold about 4 mill units. Supposedly generated about 81 mill dollars.

I think BB had roughly 150 mill in DvD sales. A batfan can correct me if i'm wrong.
