Batman Begins home video sales are legendary.

yup. If SR coulda did that a sequel would have been made.

BB had incredible sales. One old variety article had sales at 167 mill after Batman Begins original DVD release.

The Variety article that says BB DVD sales are 167 million was from August 2006. Two years before TDK.

There are several stories about BB DVD sales and how great they were.

The old Variety article talks about the lukewarm SR box office and how WB was waiting on the DVD sales in hopes it pulled a BB sales boost.

We don't have Wednesday numbers yet but it seems MoS is gonna lose like half its screens/theaters.

Latest box office:

Budget: $225,000,000

Domestic: $282,735,742 as of Jul. 17, 2013 (45.5%)
+ Foreign: $338,200,000 as of Jul. 14, 2013 (54.5%)

= Worldwide: $620,935,742

In Release: 34 days / 4.9 weeks

So;

Wednesday: $542,089 (Rank 10)

This is my 'guess' for the Man of Steel Domestic Total:

Based on the current trend of MOS, the film should hit $300 million around the 60th-70th day of its' release (A little under a month from now or 8th/9th week of release)

I based this on a couple of factors. First, I looked at films similar to the same box office trend as MOS. I based this on "Fastest to $250 Million" from BOM.

Two movies showed a similar trend, the Hobbit and Harry Potter 6.

Currently, MOS is at its' 34th day and is around $282 million or so. At the same time/rate, Hobbit earned 630K on its' 34th day (Wednesday) to a total of $280M while HP6 earned 730K on its' 34th day (Monday) to a totak of $284M. So, if we look at those two trends then, MOS should follow the same trend. Note, 'hopefully' ;-P

I'm going to be honest, high BO > breaking records.

If this movie had a $210 million opening and ended up with $500 million WW (not likely but still) I doubt WB would be like "oh the movie didn't do so well but we broke the Avengers record and that is the most important thing."

Avatar's relatively low opening weekend makes its WW gross even more impressive. It shows it had phenomenal legs. I would take that over a record breaking opening weekend any time. Not that MOS isn't doing well, but it breaking the June record isn't as impressive (IMO anyway) as it's WW gross.
Records rise and fall all of the time.
The record for MOS will fall too one day.
I would prefer 3 straight weeks at number 1 myself , THAT is dominating the box office.

MOS should be at $285 million by Monday July 22nd. What did HP 6 / Hobbit finish with for their domestic totals?

While I read post in this thread I'm listening to the sound track of MOS (the track is from the World Engine scene) and I'm loving it. I feel like I can take on the world.. :D Such an amazing Score... I hope it gets nominated for an Oscar...

Which complaints about SR apply to Donner's version?

I don't remember STM having bastard children, Superman lifting land masses made out of kryptonite, Superman crying after stalking/spying on Lois, terrible Superman costumes, Christ allegories that felt very forced, long periods of wasteful scenes that were boring, etc.

SR sucked all the charm and inspiration from the Donner-verse.

But the illegitimate child is maybe an outgrowth of his making love with Lois in SMII. Although since Lois does not accuse him of rape, maybe not. Although in none of the endings of SMII does Superman head back to Krypton, leaving Lois alone. We assume that Clark will still be at the daily planet. So some of the problems are not from SMII, but some are, at least partly.

I strongly believe this movie can get $290 million domestic.

people here laughed at me when I compared mos to the hobbit its hard to believe that a movie will make 300 mil dom and top out at 700 ww. I just dont see mos stopping there I say 800 is the floor mos will surely make more than 400 foreign if fast 6 can crawl to 700mil ww and 460 of that is foreign I think mos can crush this number even with a slow crawl but I know warner is gonna re-release it to get some of its screens back if they do I still see a billion just my opinion

come to think of it thier has never been a movie that made 300 dom and topped out at 700 mil ww.
if anyone out there know of a movie that has made 300mil dom and didn't get 800mil ww please let me know cuz so far I dont know of any

Iron Man, Transformers, The Hunger Games, Indiana Jones and the Last Crusade, Men in Black, IM2, The Passion of the Christ, The Twilight Saga: Eclipse..... Need I go on? Because there are A LOT more movies that got $300 million+ but didn't get $800 million.

Titanic = 15 weeks number 1 consecutive. Now, that's what I call dominating... :woot:

I really didnt know it was that many but I can say that mos will do much better than those movies the only movie in that list that deserves 800mil is transformers and many of thoses movies was a long time ago before the foreign market got bigger I believe some of those movies would have done a lot better in todays market accept im2 horrible ass movie

Didn't Titanic open during winter when no movie/competition were opening? There was nothing going up against it like how today's movie are competitive each week. If you did 2-3 weeks at #1 that's accomplish considering how many movies are being release.
