Man of Steel Box Office Prediction Thread - Part 3

Keaton was too small, but it worked. Jackman was too tall, but it worked.

First off he's 6', so it's not like some guy that's 5'2" playing Superman. But to me the guy just looks like Superman, more than Routh did IMO. But part of it was I hated the SR costume. There are parts of the MoS suit I don't like, but I think it works overall. The emblem is certainly more iconic than the SR emblem which looked like crap to me.

Cavill may not be tall enough but MoS Superman would kick the crap out of Donners Supes every day. And that's not meant to be taken as a bash. I don't think Superman should be defined by his height. You are like 3 years too late in that department...
the height is for the imposing effect. you don't have to physically blow someone. just a simple stare will make the thugs shaking their legs and drop to the floor. lol n reeve had that!

btw, if u read my signature, u would know that i was aligned with kuwasa and had been disliking MOS since 3 years ago until i saw the trailers... :D

Cavil seems great but there's a reason it's so hard to get out of reeve's shadow. He had the superman look no doubt.

+Christopher+Reeve+Superman

He arguably defined a superhero character on screen more so than anyone. Possibly even more so than jackman with wolverine and potentially up there with RDJ and Iron Man.

Okokok for once I will agree with ya, :D just cause you mentioned Keaton and Jackman. Both whom people criticized like crazy before their films came out. I know people laughed when they heard Keaton was playing Batman. Not sure about Jackman he was a relative unknown at the time of X-Men 1, I think.

Wasn't the reaction "meh" when Tobey was cast as Spiderman? I think the scripts were the problem as I actually liked Tobey. It looks like RDJ has done to Iron Man what Reeves did to Superman -- to some, the original is irreplaceable although Iron Man can be argued because there aren't a lot of superheroes out there in movies who operate without a mask. That is like Hugh Jackman/Wolverine. I can't see anyone else pulling that role off and I don't know of anyone else I can picture playing Tony Stark/Iron Man.

Yep, the dreaded SR costume. Awful, so awful and I thought the MoS costume looked much, much better. The S is definitely more iconic that could be due to the fact that it is bigger, I don't know. Color wise I thought it looked pretty damn good. Some shots, his cape appeared a very bright red.

This has probably already been said but it needs to at least get $52,535,026 according to BoxOfficeMojo on its opening weekend to beat Superman Returns which was really that great of movie. With so much riding on the Man of Steel, it needs to at least get these numbers.

what? r u crazy? r u afraid that MOS won't make 55M OW???!!!

My own reaction to Toby being cast was, "you mean the dorky kid from Pleasantville?" I wasn't hugely impressed, but then again I hadn't seen him in much before.

I remember huge negative reaction to Keaton, and personally he's my favorite Bruce Wayne, because I always thought, you'd have to be pretty nuts to do what Batman would do, and I think he played that part very well. Not that I didn't enjoy Bale, who did a great job, but I think Keaton has remained my favorite version of Bruce Wayne/Batman, although I wished he had some better writing from the script to have worked with.

The big thing with Jackman (no pun intended) was he too tall for the roll. People didn't give a thought to the characterization of the roll, it was just, "Wolverine is a little 5'6" guy with an attitude" and that was all anyone saw of the character. When the movie came out, he nailed the part and was one of the best parts of the movie aside from Stewart and McKellum, and all was forgiven.

Cavill just flat out looks like Superman and I said so from the start, although I didn't think the publicity photo of him ripping off the safe door looked great, because they did some weir stuff to his hair, in the film they made it look natural and didn't slick it back like they did in the photo. But anyway he certainly looks the part.

*sigh* based on True Reach and MoS RT rating thus far, I think this could end up with $100-$120 Million OW. Maybe even less than that... Like $80-$90 mil. I don't know guys, it isn't looking good at all right now.

Sucks when reality sets in and all the hard work you put into something and it doesn't pay off. Likely another L on my record. Maybe that's why I won't get promoted. Because I struggle with anything tracking past $100 Mil :( I'm done posting in this thread until there are unofficial estimates of the opening weekend.

Really after all that you're throwing in the towel?

Yeah, I have my contacts and sources. There's a reason why WB expects $75 Mil OW and embargo was held for so long. You're seeing it all unfold. Plus True Reach figures are no where close to IM3 levels which lead me to believe the worst MoS can do is $80 million OW I'm not sure I can realistically seeing it go past $110 million right now. MoS has a lot against it.

The Fate of its BO #'s are in the GA's hands.

To compare, IM3 did 1st day 1.5 million, and 15 total in the Philippines, and Star Trek 1.4 million to date.

If this is a trend, the Asian markets are there for the taking.

I hear that it's a holiday over there so that gave it a bump? But still impressive.

Superman is pretty famous overseas. Alot moreso than Trek anyways.

this movie will do over 100mill ow people need to chill

I expect huge numbers in Japan...Wouldnt surprise me the anime lovers will go nuts over the action sequences

survey report: lol
tickets are selling fast in most of the time slots in one of the famous shopping malls here; it isn't sold out though.

so i think it will do good, just not great.

btw, to my surprise, IM3 is still available and in all time slots!!!

I still believe its going to do huge numbers. Keep the faith guys, MOS will pull through.

He's my guess

OW: $112.8m
Dom: $325m
OS: $325M
WW: $650

2 billion, 500 million, 37 thousand, 7 hundred and 55 dollars and 23 cents

BOX OFFICE REPORT: PHILIPPINES

The new, origin film of Superman flew off to a blockbuster start yesterday as “Man of Steel” surpassed the industry's all-time opening day record with a nationwide gross of a monumental P69.52-M.

“Man of Steel's” phenomenal debut bested the opening day record previously established only last April by “Iron Man 3” at P62.9-million.

This was announced today by Francis Soliven, general manager of Warner Bros. (F.E.), Inc. which distributed the film. “This is a day of reckoning for Superman,” added Soliven. “He's a larger-than-life character beloved by millions of Filipinos, and this was proven today. Fans and families welcomed him back overwhelmingly as evidenced by the long lines, the ubiquitous Superman shirts everywhere, and the cheers at the end of screenings.”

Dominating the over all box-office with a 94 percent share, “Man of Steel” also posted the biggest opening day gross ever for Warner Bros. whose previous best first-day performer was “Harry Potter and the Deathly Hallows – Part 2” at P28.3-million.
