I hadn't heard about that site before but I'm glad I hadn't. That has to be one of the dumbest ways you can think of to gather a general grade.

It is. And what's worse is they make a ton of money on it from their premium subscription fees. It's not the only time I've seen something as ridiculous though. Back in virginia a marketing rep came into my regular comic book shop, told us they were doing a survey for a studio of the general population's interest in which titles should become movies, and then polled only the people working at the store. Why? Easy money, little leg work.

EDIt: Funnily enough MOS carries the same cinemascore rating as GI Joe: Retaliation and Now You See Me and I reviewed those pretty much the same

Lucky Nolan didn't direct MOS. I can only laugh at his attempt at action (he may as well have put a tutu on Batman). If Nolan directed MOS no doubt it would maintained the boring Superman Returns reputation. Thank Zod for Snyder.

Don't let the grades fool you. From what I understand, a B is actually pretty bad according to Cinemascore ratings. Or at least, it's "so-so".

Yes B is a mediocre grade according to Cinema Score but GL wom was way worse than mediocre. B+ and up are considered good grades.

That's why it's only telling when it's REALLY bad. :funny: If even your most ardent fans think it sucks...it must exist on a whole other level of suck!

:funny: I want to get into user experience design and...that is not how one should do user research. :oldrazz:

Yeah it's only helpful for movies that don't already have an existing fanbase. A B+ for Inception shows that - it was divisive, but a B+ isn't a bad score in itself. And aside from Nolanites, there wasn't an already existing fanbase for it.

Otherwise, for a movie that already has a fanbase, it's only helpful when the Cinamascore sucks to the high heavens. :oldrazz:

If MOS can manage 350 m domestic I'd say 700 m WW is a lock.

It even has a chance at beating ASM's 752 m.

I can't believe people pay any attention to cinemascore.

A = Break out smash success

B = Flop

lolwut?

I'm still laughing over the box office forums calling Star Trek "Into Flopness." :lmao:

Far from a flop but below a lot of people's expectations. Ideally i'm sure the studio would have preferred it to at least match if not over-take part 1's domestic haul.

You're referring to Star Trek, right? :funny:

You didn't like it?

Personally, i totally loved it.. in my books, it was by far and away the best movie this year so far.. Iron Man 3 was a lot of fun, but still not even close the Star Trek...

Well that's why the #1 priority for big budget movies right now is opening weekend box office success. Legs are good and all but with so much competition on a weekly basis they put tens of millions into those last few weeks of marketing. Look at MOS, Monsters University could destroy it or cause little affect. WB wasn't gonna take a chance, hence the extra 3D showings (only around 900 of the 4,100 screens are showing it in 2D) and the Walmart screenings. Can't take any chances with reviews/WOM i don't blame em

I haven't seen it yet, but it fell drastically short of box office expectations. Hence the "flopness" christening.

I should see it though. Benedict Cumberbatch's voice...:atp:

Yeah, movies have become more and more frontloaded with the marketing and the competition, and it all basically comes down to opening weekend.

I'm so over star trek it's not even funny, I just hope studios don't take it to mean Benedict Cumberbatch should never work in hollywood again :funny: that guy is pure gold.

I'd say WOM is the biggest factor.

Ted had a smaller OW than Watchmen.

WOM is huge and it actually seems to be pretty good but there is a lot of competition that can and will eat at legs.

WWZ is the wild card if it gets great fan reaction it will target a very similar demo.

Into Darkness is being saved by good word of mouth. It's a disappointment but I think an Abramless sequel is coming out in 3 years.

It has to. Paramount is running out of franchises. First Marvel, then Dreamworks Animation, next up is probably Hasbro.

You should.. all my buddies loved it... same with IM 3...

I really don't understand why some people don't like it.. it's got all the ingredients of a great movie.. the 'action scenes' were awesome... and the script was really good...

MOS, though, had mixed feelings from the GA (all my buddies who don't much care about genres, just good movies).

Man Of Steel has the greatest opening weekend in the history of June. [/thread]

Meanwhile at WB HQ....

I'm treading this whole board very carefully (still haven't seen it) but have the numbers been released for opening day?
