They did Iron man right. If they do superman right in mos it's gonna make Iron man 3 look like a joke.

Again, this isn't a contest as to who can lift the most or fly the highest. Superman ain't the top of the totem pole anymore in this game...it's got to earn it fist like everyone else, whilst overcoming it's more recent history of disappointment. Hope for the best ,of course, but be prepared for the obstacles he faces by not really being the hottest item/brand these days.

Why does everyone have to turn talk of MOS into a fight against Marvel? I'm more of a DC fan but I also love the Marvel films people should just enjoy the movies, its better if comic book films continue to do well.

I never see anything as DC vs. Marvel, and neither do most moviegoers. It's more like movie vs. movie. Batman vs. Iron Man is just as fair as Pirates vs. Spidey or Hobbit. They're all competing for the same attention and success.

Of course they're competing but why do people have to say one is better than the other. Take this summer I thought Avengers and TDKR's were both film of the year yet I didn't compare them cause they're very different movies.

Which one do you think was better? You also got people back when POTC2 came out who were like "How can people like a drunken pirate more than the greatest so-and-so...?"

I'm not really a comic fan, so I never have a dog in the DC/Marvel fight or what have you. I just go by which movies I think were better. I haven't seen Avengers though, as I did't really have much interest. Probably NetFlix it.

I don't think any were better if I'm honest though I'll probably rewatch Avengers more cause its a happier movie. Funnily enough though I am off to see Rises again on Weds :woot:

Trust me AVengers is so much fun and I think theres room for gritty and fun superhero films.

I grew up reading Marvel and liked the comics, especially X-Men. I think Singer's and Vaughn's X-Men-movies, as well as Lee's underrated HULK are the best to come out of the Marvel-universe yet. While I thought Avengers was massively entertaining I also couldnt take it serious in the end and I dont care about the character's solo-movies at all. Imo they havent really done anything special with it. They (Marvel) havent tried to take it to a new level within the CBMs and as such fail to make a true impact.

The TDK-trilogy tried to and succeeded mostly. And MOS looks to do the same. For that reason alone I mostly favor the DC-movieverse. But I do loathe the VS-discussions.

It really depends. If Iron Man 3 is only as good as IM2 was, then I see MoS trampling it as the better movie. However, if IM3 and MoS are both fantastic movies in their own right, that won't happen. If anything it'll be a situation similar to how TDK and Iron Man were viewed. Both really good movies, but for their own reasons.

TDK was clearly seen as superior to IM. Yes IM was well received and considered by some to be "more fun", and I like it quite a bit, but TDK is the Citizen Kane, Casablanca or Godfather of superhero films.

See, you're one that liked TDK better. Not everyone shares your opinion, though.

And Iron Man was the Star Wars or Wizard of Oz of superhero films, your point?

I am talking on a whole. TDK came out to nearly universal acclaim from critics and audiences alike, while having one of the great performance in cinema history. It was even acknowledged by the Academy.

IM was seen as very good. TDK was seen as not only the best of the superhero films, but simply a great film in its own right.

Not really. It has little to nothing in common with Star Wars or the Wizard of Oz, and it most certainly was not the culture or box office phenomena they were. The Avengers would match that description better.

Superman as a name brand is stronger than a lot of the heroes mentioned. However, as a movie brand, it will need to be rebuilt.

Man of Steel needs to head into its opening week with a lot of strong buzz for it to make 100 million its first weekend, as well as a great marketing plan.

^ this.

Agreed. Hopefully WB can do for MOS and its Marketing what it did for Batman.

Completely agree. MoS will be lucky right now to get around 80 million the opening weekend. We are going for small beginnings in the US, with a hope that if the movie is good, the WOM keeps it going for a bit. Where it will need to and perhaps might make an impact is in the foreign markets.

I don't like 3D at all really, but man am I kind of hoping it happens just for the extra money.

Yeah I'm not a fan of 3-D too much but Man of Steel is most likely a film that's suited for it.

I hope a viral marketing campaign is in the works. That could help with awareness.

Viral marketing similar to something like Bioshock 2 would be pretty cool. I like the idea of Superman or Zod sightings. Grainy footage, reports and photos of amazing feats that happened. Possibly even some written by Lois.

Their marketing got Batman Begins a mere $48mil opening weekend. It was word-of-mouth that saved that movie (and even then, MoS needs to have a better domestic number than that ultimately got). I'm personally hoping they don't just re-use their BB marketing formula to reboot Supes...which, unfortunately, they seem to be doing so far. Still, they do have a major advantage this go-round which they didn't have back then - Chris Nolan's name actually means something to the general public now. So of course they can milk that for all its worth this time, which should go a long way toward eclipsing BB's haul.

They have as much in common as TDK does with Godfather, Casablanca and Citizen Kane.

I can't believe sites are only just picking this up I posted that weeks ago

So you're the one who put it up way back...I was wondering.

Still...it's not much, but I guess it's nice to hear that it's out there...somewhere...being finished....somehow....

;)
