Marvel Now - Part 4

All right, I don't want to get into a political debate over it, so I'll just simplify it down to: if you read comics without buying them, you're a d***. That's both subjective and indisputable in my book. :oldrazz:

With the exception of my subscription to Batman and my Silver and Bronze Age splurges at my local comic shop, I buy paperbacks and omnibuses anymore. Individual comics are expensive: to buy and maintain, in terms of money and room.

While I do agree that comics is a small enough market that people should buy them to read them I understand that sometimes people want to read more books than they can afford and therefore will buy what they can afford and "pirate" the rest. It's the same as sitting in the store and reading the book there. No matter how or where you read it you're reading it without buying it. At the same time "pirating" a comic is no different than buying it used on Ebay and it's no different than any other form of media that's not bought new, what tends to happen is that if someone likes the comic or other form of media they are more inclined to want to support the media by buying it new the next go around. This same topic is bought up in video games, albeit about used over piracy, and the answer applies to both cases.

No, I think I'm good with getting more of what I want. :/

I'm guessing not many of you read manga. And it's not like you absolutely HAVE to buy the comics to read them.

I can understand getting more of you want, but to me the double shipping limits what I can afford. I sure dont read manga, can't stand it but I like to own what I read. I've become more of a trade buyer but I still buy comics when I can.

Thankfully Superior Spider-Man is the only double shipped comic I'm reading. I don't think I could handle more double ship books.

Took words right out of my mouth. If I didn't pirate all 5 seasons of Dexter, 7 seasons of Doctor Who, and Game of Thrones then I wouldn't have ever bought the DVD/BDs like I did either.
Same way with me. I downloaded older comics from Marvel and now I try to buy as many as I can to support the titles I like. I'm currently trying to finish buying the All New X-Men title. I think when it comes to pirating older comics that aren't being sold anymore it isn't as much of a bad thing as if someone just pirated new comics continuously. Like right now I'm currently looking for The Secret Warriors TPBs and Avengers Academy TPBs because those are some of the best comics I've read.

I understand how it can be a bad thing but that's only if you decide not to support any titles and just pirate them. At the end of the day though people have been finding ways to enjoy entertainment that they can't afford for as long as it's been possible. I mean people use to get tape recorders and record their favorite songs off the radio and listen to them and that is a form of piracy. Sometimes I think people just like to pick and chose what they feel is acceptable to be pirated when in reality anything and everything is acceptable.

I'll give it a shot as well. Will be interesting to see how Namor fits into it given the events of Infinity. And for once a new team book isn't an Avengers or X-Men book so I'm happy about that too. Plus, James Robinson on a Marvel title for the first time since the 90's.

that just means it'll be cancelled within a year

That'll be the relaunched title for it when the new #1 is released

Hadn't heard of this new Invaders until peeking in this thread. Robinson writing means I'll probably skip it. He's gone waaaaaay downhill since the Starman days.

Yeah I'm up for it. Damn Marvel, killing my bank account. I'll def be adding Silver Surfer, Inhuman and Black Widow to my pull. Been looking forward to a new Surfer book.

Silver Surfer is the first one that even remotely interests me. It depends on the creative team and solicits.

Inhumanity could potentially interest me, but so far no.

I'm the odd ball out. I'd be more interested in Invaders if Blazing Skull were there. For as not-well-received as Austin's New Invaders series was, I loved Blazing Skull in it.
