Marvel Now - Part 4

I think I'll pass on all these books and probably the Inhumans stuff as well. If Romita JR is indeed handling the next event, I may be taking an extended break from Marvel. :csad:

I'm surprised it's taken Marvel this long to put out a Black Widow series. You'd think with all the interest generated by the movie, they'd have had one ready to go last year.

Her last series was pretty frigging good.

And was canceled pretty frigging quick. It's not that surprising to me they didn't rush to put another out. Hell, I was surprised when War Machine got that Iron Man 2.0 book so soon after the cancelation of the Pak written WM series...

I guess. Just seems like a no-brainer given the movie. Sadly, the Black Widow is probably the best-known female Marvel character of the moment.

She's the best known female character Marvel has on a team, not as a solo star. They went and promptly had her starring in the Avengers books when the movie was released. They created Assemble around that and variations of the lineup popped up in other books. People weren't going to the movies to see BW, but rather the team and that's what they promoted.

True, but there's always that coveted female demographic, who might be likelier to check out a female-led solo than just another Avengers comic. I guess the fact that they didn't even want to try to test the waters and see if a BW solo series could attract ladies is a bit discouraging to me.

the sad reality is that female solos don't sell that well. Ms. Marvel and She-Hulk are the probably the two biggest successes, but even they have been cancelled several times due to low sales. They seemed to focus on pushing Captain Marvel last year so I guess they figured the Avengers didn't need to have two female ongoings launching around the same time. But then again if that's the case, I guess the question is why would they go with Captain Marvel instead of Black Widow

Hoping to generate interest in the character (and reinforce their ownership over the name) before putting Capt. Marvel in some future film? [shrugs]

Sounds like the briefly mentioned All New X-Men/Guardians of the Galaxy crossover based on the creative teams.

I really don't like the "1" being used in the marketing campaign. Marvel needs to stop with the constant relaunches.

Agreed.

It has become a nightmare for collecting: I have been picking up trade paperbacks of Bendis' New Avengers run, and it is a nightmare trying to find the second volume--which second volume? [By the way, it's Sentry, but that's beside the point.] They need to stick with a numbering system, instead of constantly hitting the proverbial F5.

...I'm pretty sure the 1 doesn't mean they're renumbering anything, considering this event is for ANXM and GOTG, obviously. It probably has something to do with the event, or just the first issues of those minis. :/

I'm with you, buddy. There's been like seven different Iron Man #1s. Plus, I think high numbers are a sign of achievement in both print runs and collecting. You should be able to tell how many issues of a title/character you have without an excel spreadsheet to keep all the volumes and run lengths straight. It's annoying and hurts the long time reader at the expense of gaining a precious few new ones who, to be honest, probably won't stick around anyway.

Who are these people exclusively collecting #1 issues that drive up relaunch sales? Because they, as a collective group, need to stop. :whatever:

New She Hulk ongoing announced. Creative team: Charles Soule and Javier Pulido.

a new She-Hulk ongoing series has been announced. I hope it gets a good creative team and is highly promoted. Being in the Mighty Avengers helps.

Re: Trial/Judgment. Hmm. I guess we'll see. I hope it's something that introduces some new heroes and villains.

While I do agree that comics is a small enough market that people should buy them to read them I understand that sometimes people want to read more books than they can afford and therefore will buy what they can afford and "pirate" the rest. It's the same as sitting in the store and reading the book there. No matter how or where you read it you're reading it without buying it. At the same time "pirating" a comic is no different than buying it used on Ebay and it's no different than any other form of media that's not bought new, what tends to happen is that if someone likes the comic or other form of media they are more inclined to want to support the media by buying it new the next go around. This same topic is bought up in video games, albeit about used over piracy, and the answer applies to both cases.

This. Plus I refuse to blow 4 bucks on 30 pages I may not even like. Pirating helps me make judgments on what I will eventually go buy the next time I'm at the comic store. If I like it, I'll go for a trade. If not, no money lost. I like comics, but I have other things to spend money on.

Hmm... Corporate could be an X-Factor relaunch. I feel like if it were a Spidey 2099 title it'd have a blue and red color scheme. Also, it'll be covered at the Amazing X-Men and Marvel Universe Panel. I feel like if it were a Spidey 2099 title it'd be at the All-New Marvel Now Panel... though I suppose I could be wrong on that. Still, I'd love to hear of a new Spidey 2099 title.

Hmm... Dan Slott on a book other than Superior Spider-Man? I thought he was maxed out due to the double-shipping schedule? Still, could be interesting. I'm curious to hear more about that. Allred's art is hit or miss for me depending on the story. I'd have to see it in the actual issue before deciding if I like it.
