<< How to read and understand sales

Last week, Japan got several new releases in Pokkén Tournament DX for Nintendo Switch, NBA 2K18, Dragon Quest X: All-in-One Package on Switch, Marvel vs. Capcom: Infinite, Project CARS 2, Nil Admirari no Tenbin, and a cheaper version of Yakuza Kiwami. Japanese sales tracker Media Create shared the latest on software and hardware sales data from the week of September 18 through September 24, 2017.

#1 of the week goes to Pokkén Tournament DX, the updated version of the Pokémon fighter on the Nintendo Switch, which saw a debut of 53,395 units sold. In comparison, the first Pokkén Tournament released last year (already feels much longer!) back in March 2016 and sold 69,675 units on the Wii U. Its sales are nowhere near that of a regular Pokémon game, but pretty reasonable for an updated version of a fighter from a year ago on a new platform, and good enough to take the top spot.

Splatoon 2 continues its #2 streak now for its fifth week in a row with 21,897 units. Pro Evolution Soccer 2018 which placed top last week moved 16,854 copies on PS4 in its second leg to chart at #3. NBA 2K18 charted at #4 with 14,487 units sold on the PS4, an improvement over last year’s NBA 2K17 which debuted with 9,777 units on PS4.

Dragon Quest X: All-in-One Package made its way to the Nintendo Switch and sold 9,482 units on its debut to place #7. Following right after at #8 is Marvel vs. Capcom: Infinite with 8,273 units sold on PS4. This is an enormous drop from its previous entry, Marvel vs. Capcom 3: Fate of Two Worlds, which sold 67,187 units on PS3 and 13,779 units on Xbox 360 for a total of 80,966 units between the two. It really shows how much things have changed, but we’ll be putting it in the “bombed” category for Japan.

Our next new entry is Project CARS 2 at #11 with 7,359 units sold on PS4. Idea factory visual novel Nil Dmirari no Tenbin: Teito Kuroyuri Enyoutan released on PS Vita with 5,450 units sold in its debut for a #16 finish. Lastly, the cheaper version Yakuza Kiwami New Price Edition released with 4,596 units sold in its debut on PS4 to chart at #18.

We didn’t see any major changes in the hardware side of things, but the Nintendo Switch finished on top again with 43,426 units sold, which puts it at 1,709,952 units total in Japan since its debut back in March if we go by Media Create’s numbers. I also wanted to point out that this may be the first time we have three consoles in the double-digits with PS3 at 87 units, Xbox One at 76 units, and Wii U at 56 units sold in the week.

The top-20 chart of the week is as follows:

Wonder how fast they're getting that X-Men DLC ready. The game seems to be bombing hard.

If this does indeed bomb, Capcom only has themselves to blame. I hope it does bomb so Capcom will pull their heads out of their asses.

Well, Capcom and Marvel. Capcom surely weren't the ones that decided they didn't want to have any X-Men in the game.

Yeah, I blame this one more on Marvel/Disney. They had way too much control over this game's content, and I wouldn't be surprised if this game was rushed because of Disney.

Plus that story mode felt more like a terrible Marvel Animated Movie back when they still did those. Even SFV's story mode felt far more entertaining. This story mode was horrid and depressing.

I'll never understand how putting Wolverine and Dr. Doom in THIS video game, automatically gives Fox Studios a huge lead over Disney...

Come on now. Capcom is bad enough for it to have easily been their fault.

Yup this is mainly on Marvel as they are the ones that choose which marvel characters to push and which characters are not allowed on a game like this.

I blame Capcom for stuff like character animations, story, gameplay mechanics ( though that seems to get the most praise ), and the inclusion/exclusion of Capcom characters.

I blame Marvel for the inclusion/exclusion of Marvel characters.

Since most of the characters I want are Marvel characters, with most being X-Men, I put more blame on Marvel at this point.

I'm in the minority in that the exclusion of the X-Men didn't really bother me in concept because it potentially paved the way for something creative with the roster. They still failed in that regard. The Capcom side of the roster is just as bad though. Capcom was given an IP with restrictions to work with failed on almost every level to utilize it properly.

Having Wolverine and Doom in this game isn't going to fix the fact that there are mobile games with better character models out there or that the Capcom side the roster is incredibly half-assed.

I really want this to be a wake up call for Capcom and they actually take the correct message away from all this, but they probably won't based on what I've seen of the upcoming DLC for RE7.

Outside of the gameplay, which apparently is the best its ever been, everything else about the game seems bland and soulless. Marvel vs Capcom 3 was oozing out of the seems with personality. Infinite in comparison feels so sterile.

Heck, there's even a video by Push Square, talking about the game's Menu. How all of it appears like it's been made on a shoestring budget.

Yes, gameplay is the most important aspect. Especially in a fighting game. But there needs to be proper presentation as well. You don't want to turn people off with a first bad impression.

Overall I'd say Capcom is more to blame than Marvel. Alright, so you can't choose the X-Men or any of the Marvel characters you'd personally want to have in the game, but you have control over the entire other half of the roster. Throw in some fan favorites everybody has been asking for. Don't hold them all hostage as DLC. If nobody cares about the base roster, you won't have anybody around to buy the DLC.

Outside if Mega Man X and Jedah, there's literally not a single new character. Oh there are Sigma and the Monster Hunter character, but they are DLC. Why the frick is Sigma, who's 1 of the two big bads in the main story, not part of the base roster? This make absolutely no sense. And why, for the love of god, is Spencer still in the game? If you want Bionic Commando represented, at least pick the version of Spencer people actually like.

yeah, Sigma being DLC ( which takes away one DLC slot from another character ) made no sense other than pure $$$$ grabbing.

Btw, does anybody think that Marvel's side could have used some Multiverse characters? If you don't have a story, you can obviously throw in who you want, but when the main story is about two Universes fusing, it really looks awkward to have Mega Man X, Chris, Spencer, Arthur, etc, standing next to each other. Of course the Marvel characters are all from the same Universe, but we're supposed to believe that Mega Man X and Chris are from the same Universe as well?

so characters like Spider-Gwen could appear?

I'd approve. :yay:

umm yeah good luck with that. sadly capcom is lost when it comes to the fans and game interviewer/ reviewer (the good ones) that they see often at an event like e3 and more and personal interviews telling them what the fans and they themselves want. it's all out on the web for them to see and it still missed by them. All starting with the res evil series.

they're the only dev's that made a promis to put X-men on the consoles with couch locsal co-op and tried with the FF til their boss 's at marvel them selves short changed them with the ff for the timing of the FF movie announcements from fox.

Is it just me, or do Black Panther's proportions seem kinda off. Also, that's a whole lotta black. If you'd put all those DLC characters next to each other, that'd look really boring. I'm just not the least bit excited. It's just way too much MCU. Should the game truly bomb everywhere, I hope Marvel will pull their heads out of their asses, and allow Capcom to use X-Men characters.

All this talk about x-men, here I am waiting for the F4 to get some love FOR THE FIRST TIME.

actually, BW concept art looks pretty cool, especially that electric baton thing.

if that's an indication of what she looks and plays like, then color me interested.

it's the same thing that was used in marvel heroes omega and it was in the last avengers movie "age of ultRon minus the rist sting shooters. which weren't yellow in the movie of the MHo game or the avegers assemble animated series.

the batton's were a big thing for her and that game. and one dev's that worked said he was major fan of fight game fan . I won't be surprised if they asked him for advice or got him to help since capcom dev's are plain lazy these days.

Now as to the FF there's that a edict from marvel and the video games stuido's that work directly under them aren't allowed to put any Fantastic four character in game

And capcom (who doesn't work for marvel at all) wasn't gonna put them in from the get go

Games like lego marvel heroes and Marvel heroes omega(the pc side of latter already had player have thecharacters) has design of the character to do so and were stopped and they had to sign contract from lawyers from marvel after the annoocment of the Fanstic four movies from foxwhich is having more of family direction.

I can't explain any further then that. but don't expect to see them for the time being until those fantisic four movies are over and done with or do poorly again.

I like Widows look though I always thought the blue piping should’ve been red. Also wish they’d give her long hair and a fully gold belt. Winter Soldiers body is too big but that’s the cap on way for men.
