Mass Effect 2

Do you guys have a good strategy on beating the Collectors Ship mission? I brought along Miranda (because she's a biotic and also because she's loyal and have Warp) and Grunt (who's not loyal, but I used him as meat shield and dmg dealer). I died about 5 times before I gave up. I read that Jack/Samara is a good combo vs Collectors, but neither of them are loyal yet. Should I only bring loyal squadmates in this mission?
what part do you keep dying at, the first attack? second? or the end? i used Samara and i think Jacob while Tali went through the heat duct and Garrus lead the second team. then Jack was my biotic shield and i had Garrus and Thane covering my back, and Miranda lead the second team. i didnt have any troubles keeping anyone alive, though at the end Jack said she was straining and Miranda kept asking for help, but everyone was loyal minus Miranda and Zaeed(sp?) so i had the extra powers/abilities and i was able to beat the whole mission in one try and only like 2 unities.

Man, just played through Overlord... I got a very Lawnmower Man vibe from it. Good DLC, creepy and emotional.

So I released Grunt from his tank and he said he would fight with me. It even unlocked the Trophy, but he's not showing up where I selected my squad mates for missions. Am I missing something?

There're three parts to this mission? It's the mission where I get the Revenant AR weapon. And there's only one team. I kept getting killed on the platform after falling into a trap & ambush by the Collectors, because for some reason I got hit for alot of damage, and the enemies spawn on either side of my team.

It's a pain in the ass but you should be able to get through it with anyone. I used Garrus and Miranda on my first run and Jack and Mordin on my recent game. Just try to stay in cover and take out Harbinger as quickly as you can.

New screen.

I was also dissapointed with how small a role the Council played. I thought hte decision of making Anderson or Udina the human representative would have bigger consequences but they only show up for a small bit in the opening. Even when I revisited the Citadel, there wasnt any new dialogue based on the things that happened in the universe and with Shepard.

I haven't thought about that until now, but I agree with you on this. In the first game the Council, Anderson, and Udina played a big role. On my main run I didn't save the Council(those bastards) and recommended Anderson to be in charge. When I went back and talked to him on the Citadel I thought that him reinstating Shepard to spectre status would give me more missions and play a bigger role. Not much happens though. You just go see him, talk to him, and that's it. In the next game it would be cooler to have Anderson around more. He came across as a good mentor to Shepard.

oh your on the mission to get the Reaver IFF on the Collector ship? ok i was talking about the final mission against the Collectors. yea im pretty sure i had Miranda and Grunt with me, and yeah i mightve died once or twice but it wasnt too bad. you wanna be on top of your biotics, using their powers whenever you can. and use your disruptor and incendiary ammo for all shields and armors, and i always have concussive shot set to a trigger for quick use.

Thanks for the info. I think my problems were that I was too slow to kill the drones before they became the Harbinger, and that Scion was causing me alot of problem. I also did not change cover as often as I should because the enemies would alternate between the left and the right side, so after I finished off one side I got out-flanked by enemy fire. I might change Grunt to Garrus or Zaeed for their sniping fire and see if it works better than Grunt with the shotgun.

Anders needs to be on the Normandy with Mordin. Seriously, hilarity would ensue.

Seriously, I don't think I ever feel like Shepard is a Spectre in ME2. In ME1, you can use your status as Spectre to force the authority on certain worlds to cater to your demands, but in ME2 Shepard is always mentioned being with Cereberus. Since the Council is pretty much none-existened except for my conversation with Anderson (who I promoted to the Council), and some aliens aren't happy with my prior decision not to save the old Council. So far I don't even know who's on the Council besides Anderson.

Playing through Lair of the Shadow Broker... :wow:

All DLC should be like this.

I know how you feel. The first time I played the dlc I was absolutely amazed by it. I'm hoping that The Arrival will be as good as Lair of the Shadow Broker was.

Yeah Shadow Broker was great. Hopefully we'll get to see more Yahgs in ME3.

I never downloaded it, or Overlord when I had it on the 360 as I knew I'd probably get the all in one PS3 version. I was happy with both... didn't much care for most of Firewalker... but I hated the Mako parts from ME1.

I'll probably play LotSB after I'm done with the Collectors Ship mission. I'm looking forward to rekindle my Shepard's romance with Liara, since according the guide you can have a fling with her w/out compromising your other ongoing romances. :yay: Speaking of romance, Shepard just had a dinner with Kelly and a talk with Miranda that almost goes to the dangerous territory. Needless to say he had a good night last night. :cwink:

The guide says that? I was pretty sure that you kind of have to choose... Like, if Liara knows you "cheated" or whatever, she'll be ticked.

oh and super LOL moment...

In regards to Liara hacking a door...

Shepard: Remember the old days when we used to be able to slap Omni-Gel on everything?

Liara: That security upgrade made lots of people angry

HA!

Yeah, I'd trade all of the generic side-mission DLC in for just one more piece of DLC like "Lair of the Shadow Broker." The generic side-missions aren't bad, but it's so much better when DLC organically fits into the story and enriches Shep's relationship with one of the characters. It seems like BioWare agrees, given that a lot of their recent major DLC releases--"Witch Hunt," "The Exiled Prince," "Lair of the Shadow Broker," and "Leliana's Song," especially--have been very character-centric.

Well, here's the guide for romancing Liara in ME2 from Mass Effect Wiki:

Players who romanced Liara in Mass Effect can continue the relationship in the Lair of the Shadow Broker DLC pack for Mass Effect 2. During the mission, if Shepard has cheated on Liara, she will reveal that she is aware of the other relationship. At the conclusion of the mission Shepard can either end the relationship with Liara, and Liara and Shepard remain friends, or the relationship can be reaffirmed. Even if the latter route is taken, Mass Effect 2 love interests can still be called up to Shepard's cabin afterward and relationships with them appear unaffected. If Shepard did not romance other characters, Shepard will instead look at the picture of Liara sitting on the Commander's desk. This will not unlock the Paramour achievement.

I take it that it means even if you continue the relationship with Liara, you can still continue other relationship with Shepard.

Btw, here's a part about romancing Kelly that I don't really understand:

After Shepard has invited Kelly to dinner she will offer to feed Shepard's fish locking her in as a non-paramour 'alternate'.

Does that mean she will be your secondary love interest once she offers to feed the fish for you (although all my fishes are dead)?

I assume it means that Liara will have the confrontation that Bioware's indicated will be in ME3, just like you would if you had romanced the Virmire survivor.

I thought that was pretty funny too.
