I was being facetious and mocking. :D
It is a natural state of being.

Oh. Is Borderlands a RPG? Been awhile since I played it. Seems like a vaguely remember you choosing dialogue options.

Well, it has levels and stats and experience points and equipment stuff too.

O-M-G, it has equipment. Borderlands is very obviously more an RPG than ME2. AND it has multiplayer.

Borderlands = the holy ****ing grail of RPG experience. I'm so glad I've finally learned this!

TRON. :]

Anyway, there are no dialogue options in Borderlands. None that I remember anyway. The "RPG" in that game mostly comes from leveling, loot, and glowy numbers popping out of bullet wounds.

Nope. I wasn't suggesting ME 3 should be multiplayer, but you said

El Bastardo said:
RPGs don't need multiplayer, thank you very much.

to which I pointed out Borderlands is a fine example of a fun, multiplayer RPG. You make a silly, blanket statement, you should expect SOMEONE to contradict you.

Bastardo, you have this Troll mask that you like to put on occasionally... I think maybe it's time you gave it away.

Too far?

Yeah, back by popular demand and all that.

Oh, okay. I honestly don't remember any of that; I actually thought it was a pretty straight up shooter outside the apparently non-existent dialogue stuff. Should probably play that again.

I admit The Bastard can get pretty feisty at times, but troll? Nah, I don't see that. And really, it's not really good etiquette to call someone a troll in something you more or less started when you didn't have to.

I would say excessive, antagonistic sarcasm and 'facetious mocking' is bordering on troll behaviour, if it isn't just downright trollish. That's why I called it a 'troll mask', because I don't think he IS a troll but sometimes he just decides to bait people and say things he KNOWS will get a reaction.

And I started something when I didn't have to? What did I start exactly? I responded to a statement, which I quoted above, with a direct contradiction.

Borderlands was basically just a FPS Diablo. It had a full experience system, loot for weapons, armour and performance stats, it had health and weapon upgrades and you had a skill tree with character specific abilities. Add to that that the whole game was built around grinding in dungeons and doing text based texts, I would say it's fair to classify it as a Western RPG.

Eh, I think you just take it too seriously, really. And really, in this case, weren't you the one baiting? If you haven't got the sniffles all of a sudden none of this would have come about.

Well, by pretty much doing this:

You knew what he meant, no real need to say that at all. Plus, you've had enough arguments with him to know that you just open the semantics dam. Like, if you notice he said, 'RPGs don't need multiplayer', and you didn't post a game that needed multiplayer, and then you'd both go through this long, ridiculous debate about what need means and all that.

You make a fair point... I'd probably just save a lot of time if I never responded to any of that.

In my defence though, I don't follow this thread often, and only got Bastardo's comment in my email because i'm apparently on the subscription list, so I reacted only to that comment.

I still fundamentally disagree with the RPG's not needing multiplayer though, because I think they have a lot of potential. I enjoyed Borderlands but I would have loved that game to have the same depth of narrative and character that most single player RPG's do. I don't care for MP in games like ME or Elder Scrolls, but it would be great if there was a developer that tried to tackle MP RPG's as a genre for consoles, that aren't button mashers or MMO's.

let's not and say we did....lets leave the MP for the shooter a-holes and sports nuts (im one of the latter)

Because only A-Holes like playing games with friends?

mostly....the only things I really play online are sports games...primarily Madden or Tiger Woods

if a game is conducive to MP, fine....but I don't think ME is conducive to it....just my opinion...and developing MP takes time away from developing a proper single player experience, which should be the focus

Well as I said before, i'm not talking about ME, but RPG's in general.

There's this weird attitude from people on these boards that all Multiplayer is 12 people online anonymously cussing each other out. How about the people who form parties and like to play co-operatively with their friends?

I'd rather have them make a separate ME online shooter and put all their focus on the single player for ME3.

Borderlands was a cool game but a narrative that offers a deep, rich 20+ hour RPG experience just can't be done cooperatively, or at least I can't think of a way it can be done.

hey, I heard somewhere that they are redesigning Fem Shep's default look.........has anyone else heard about that?

She's going to be on the back of the Collector's edition box with MaleShep being on the front so I imagine that she'll be more detailed beyond what you can do with the character creator.

cool! Is that just for the CE, or will Fem Shep also appear on the regular edition cover?
