Here's the early sketch for a new pencil piece I'm doing...

It's based on this:

I'm gonna start shading soon.

PS: Sorry the scan is crap... I had to actually piece 6 scans together based on the size of my pad, and my scanner was being moody.

It's really light, but looking good so far. Just out of curiousity, did you learn how to draw by yourself or through teaching?

its light on account of the fact that I'm just laying down lines to make sure everything is spaced properly and the proportion are right/close and all...

usually I'd take the scan and mess with levels so the lines would appear more defined, but my scanner was being a pain, and as you can see the are odd gray cloudy portions in the image on account of this. When I tried to mess with levels it looked like crap, so I just left it.

to answer your question, a bit of both. I took art through ninth grade in school, and I took about a year of private watercolor lessons when I was in 6th grade, but beyond that I teach myself.

Great Job dude

working on something new, just for fun...

its a digital piece based off 3 Bill Murray character from 3 Wes Anderson movies, specifically 'rushmore', 'royal tenenbaums', and 'life aquatic'.

Thanks for the kind words all...

Unfortunately I just ran out of steam on the Murray piece. I have just been completely unmotivated to draw recently, for no apparent reason.

I am starting to get a bit more into it in the last day or so, though. Keep an eye out!

Well I have been COMPLETELY AND UTTERLY VOID of motivation to draw or do anything artistic lately.

In fact, I was so uninspired to draw, I worked on my Halloween mask for next fall, in hopes that might get some creativity going...

NOTHING!

Over the last two days though, I feel like I'm starting to come out of that funk...

And so, I'm starting a new piece: punk (or punk-lite, if you will) version of the main 'Oz' gang.

My main motivation was to do a girl with this specific hair style... nothing more believe it or not. I though, if I made her a fill in for Dorothy (i.e. put her in shades of blue and throw some red shoes on her), I could do some makeovers on the Scarecrow, Tin Man, and the Lion... and that kinda sounded fun.

Anyway, here's my progress so far:

Here's the sketch and some flat color on 'Dorothy' who will be sitting on the Lion. The hair in the color version is more of a place holder since I will be working on it with my tablet... Anyway, I plan to play with the palette a bit more, but you get the idea...

Here's the sketch of the Lion... I may throw some more 'punk' stuff on him, but I want to TRY and play with the idea that his fur is dyed first... we'll see.

Here's the sketch of the Scarecrow... He's pretty complete, although I'm gonna work a crow in somewhere.

More to come, in time.

Thoughts? ;)

I LOVE anything Ozian! And I love your stuff.... ummm, work. 'Stuff' sounded wrong.

Can't wait for this! Looking forward to seeing all the little Oz, 'Tinman' and/or 'Wicked' references!

Some more work on my punk/'oz' piece...

Here's some flat color for the Scarecrow...

I toyed around with the color A LOT so I may continue to tweak. Not sure. Plus there are some details missing, but I'll add em as I start shading and adding textures.

Thoughts?

Yet another update on my puke 'oz piece...

This is the sketch and a little flat color work on the Tin Man. When he's done he'll have a tone on decals on his torso (as you can see in the sketch), and I threw some Kanye glasses on him for fun...

Also, in the interest of completeness, here's the sketch and flat color for the lion... To be clear, I'm gonna be working a lot with the fur using my tablet, and thinking of hair dyes and stuff, so this may change drastically. But in terms of shape...

More to come in time.

I'd love to hear thoughts.

I am very happy to say I wasted some time this evening starting the painting process on my Punk/'Oz' piece.

I started with Dorothy... So far I just have her head done (short of some tweaks). I thought I'd post...

More, in time.

REALLY cool idea...I enjoy your love for Oz...but where's Toto? :p Also really love the detail put into Dorothy's hair.

Can't wait to see how it looks composition wise.
