A bit more munchkin work...

galinda_10.jpg

The final is apporaching... not quickly enough.

Love the munchkin

I am THRILLED to post this final, as it's been a bit dragged out. Life, work, class, and other pieces have all interrupted the progress of this piece, so I'm kinda happy to just have it done.

This is meant to be a companion to my Elphaba (AKA Wicked Witch) piece.

I am a big fan of the Oz universe, and a very big fan of Gregory McGuire's book "Wicked", that has been adapted into a musical. In the original cast, Kristen Chenoweth played Galinda/Glinda, so I tried to model the look after her.

I was hoping to portray her as an insincere beauty-pageant type, and I wanted the munchkin (Boq) to look highly annoyed... Not sure if I pulled that off, but that was at least the intention.

Anyway, here's the final... finally.

I'd love to hear thoughts.

thanks spidey.

That is freakishly and disturbingly weird in an awesome way. Maybe that's what you were going for, Matt.

In any regard...I LOVE IT!!! :word:

I tried to make it creepy... maybe next time I do a munchkin picture I'll amp it up... no plans to do another munchkin picture any time soon, btw.

that Oz piece is a trip man, hehe. looks great though! i have a small perspective critique but it's tiny. it's an awesome piece overall.

great work man. Are you using Photoshop or Painter? I'm teaching myself how to paint in Photoshop (I can draw really well, but my painting skills are QUITE lacking). How do you get your edges so smooth and crisp?

yeah... i was kinda playing fast and loose with that because I was kinda sick of working on this piece. thanks for the kind words!

This is f***ing epic!

love that scene from the movie! glad you liked my take!

i use photoshop only.

my method is to start by kinda painstakingly using the angled lasso tool and creating all of the flat color shapes. for instance, i'd have one layer that's a pink dress and one layer that's the shape of the skin color, etc. then create layers on top of these flat layers to paint on.

Then I always have the option to use the magic wand tool to select the area around the flat layer and cut from the painted layer...

So in other words, I paint outside the lines, and then get rid of anyhting outside the lines.

Not sure its a great method. Just how I taught myself.

A bit of and update on my hand drawn piece I've been toiling over for a month on and off.

Just some work on the neck and getting into the face a bit. More more work to be done.

I made an animated gif that blends each of my progress shots so far...

More updates, in time.

I think i will do one in time. For the moment, my next piece will probably be related to valentine's day.

DONE! DONE! DONE!

I am more than slightly relieved to say that I finally finished this piece I started before my x-mas card back in November!

I picked the photo this is based on to work on hands. Also, it had nice shadows and wrinkles and stuff.

Anyway, I'm pretty happy with the outcome...

Absolutely stunning. Like other artists here, Matt, you never cease to amaze. :word:

The first part of the V-Day card I'm doing for my friends.

It's the sketch and the flat color.

Cupid's gonna be shooting someone at close range with an arrow. Anyway...

More to come.

I really like the way you do realisistic drawing. I took a drawing class this past semester and learned how difficult it is to learn these techniques, so I can appreciate this very much.
