Age of Ultron footage from tonights Agents episode... (it's recorded but not bad)

Yep, it seems to be exactly that. It's essentially still the trilogy format of previous franchises like Star Wars and TDKT, only now with stretched (in a good way) to a set of films.

My only nitpick is that we're 5 years away and I feel as if I already see the skeleton. To be fair, I suspected a lot of what they announced prior to today, but now that it's confirmed it does feel that way to me.

You look back and each phase is almost like a three act structure, establishment in phase one, escalation in phase two, culmination in phase three. You contrast that with the WB announcement of their slate and it looks completely random.

C'mon dudes, shareholders aren't going to be happy sitting around not making money. I guarantee you they aren't going to not put out movies for even a few years, barring some awful catastrophe.

Eh, not so sure about it. The MCU's entire foundation has been based on long-term investments. If going on break for a year or two can guarantee more success in the long run, as opposed to tiring audiences with the genre but making profit in the short run, I don't see why they wouldn't. Franchises have benefitted from breaks before.

Infinity War could potentially be an event up there with Star Wars, given the premise and novelty of it. When the Star Wars franchise returned in 1999, the hype was massive. Of course, I'm not suggesting Marvel should wait 2 decades to return, but as I said, a year or two shouldn't cause any (serious) damage.

Also, brace yourselves, Hypers... the sneering editorials about all these superhero movies representing the death of quality cinema are most likely coming....

They're not doing anything to further it, lets be honest with ourselves there.

I think that's what separates Marvel from the other studios. While they all have the potential to make great films, other than Marvel, none of them can consistently keep me excited. Iron Man got excited for the other properties they'd tackle and how it will all lead to Avengers, Avengers got me excited me to see where they were going forward, TWS got me excited for multiple more films that would explore the new status quo, Guardians got me excited for Guardians 2 and Avengers 3, and so on.

Contrast that with DOFP which, although a wonderful film on its own, didn't really excite me going forward in terms of its universe expansion. Obviously I'll be excited for Apocalypse the closer we get to it, but that whole world is on the back of my mind for now. Same thing applies to the DC titles.

While quality is definitely a factor, the universe's neat structure and gradually consistent expansion are also what put it above the others IMO, at least in terms of fan hype.

To be perfectly frank, looking at contracts, it doesn't look like Cap will die in Civil War or Thor in Ragnarok which means they'll both be in Avengers 3. Plus, if Spider-Man joins the MCU and the Fantastic Four rights revert, look at the possibilities for that.

Given that Marvel Studios is contractually obligated to release two films a year, I wouldn't be surprised if 2019 also sees a Thunderbolts film in late summer and a Ghost Rider reboot around Halloween.

Odds are we'll get Iron Man and Hulk sequels in 2020 because they've been lacking solo films. We'll also have two cosmic teams and enough Avengers to fill two totally different films. I'd have one team fight Namor (who eventually joins the team) and the other team fight Kang.

There's also room for a Black Widow solo film and sequels for everyone, culminating in four films a year starting in 2020. We also don't have Darkhawk yet.

There will be more TV shows and assuming that at least some of these characters don't hit in Phase 3, I feel like Blade, Moon Knight, Runaways, She-Hulk and Punisher are going to be on the way. Probably not She-Hulk until a Hulk sequel but Blade and Moon Knight joining the Defenders? Why not? Punisher doing his own thing on his TV show but not joining a team? That's probably going to happen.

It's clear that they are setting themselves up for Defenders and other big cosmic crossovers like Kree/Skrulls and what not. Infinity War is basically part I of Marvel's next decade. I am not saying they won't scale back some initially. They will. But they can focus on street level guys before scaling it back up in 2022 or 2023. I think P:IV may not officially start until 2022 or 2023. I am sure they'll be banking on some key characters falling back into their hands by then.

Considering that The Defenders is already announced, I'd say it's pretty freaking clear that they are building to it.

So Infinity War Part 2 potential heroes:

Captain America
Thor
Iron Man
Hulk
Black Widow
Hawkeye
Vision
Quicksilver
Scarlet Witch
War Machine
Falcon
Captain Marvel
Dr Strange
Daredevil
Iron Fist
Luke Cage
Jessica Jones
Black Panther
The Inhumans
Star Lord
Drax
Gamora
Groot
Rocket
Ant-Man
Nick Fury
Winter Soldier
and Howard the Duck.

Seeing all of those characters fight Thanos would definitely be something.

if they really manage to put all these heroes in one movie, i dont know guys, i think i will cry and then cut myself a few times just to remind me that its actually real

(not counting mockingbird, deathlok (AoS Crew Coulson etc.), spiderman, f4)

Man with all this going on, it's almost easy to forget that Marvel's got this OTHER big ambitious plan for tv with The Defenders project. If done right that could be massive in its own right.

The Marvel films forum is gonna turn into a ghost town once they get all the sub-forums for these new films up and running. BP, DS and CM account for the bulk of the discussion that goes on here.

With so many films they should just put all the Marvel boards under one section and have each title as a sub forum with its own sub forums(sequels, world, etc.). I have to scroll so far down the page to get to the X-Men boards:hehe::p

That could work but I don't know if the site is set up for a 3rd layer of forums or sub-forums or whatever that it would require to make that happen. Tech stuff isn't my thing.

Black Panther is all I wanted, everything else is a very large, very delicious Cherry on top.

I'm not a huge Marvel guy but isn't Thanos like the big guy? I believe Whedon described him as the final boss in a video game.

Where do you go after him?

By then F4 will be back home, so:

I hope they are able to get Spidey from Sony. Marvel is going to make the most amazing Spider-Man movie ever.

Between the Box-Office, toys, endorsements and all other branding money that Disney is going to make off the MCU, they really should just throw 2 Billion at Sony and just buy Spidey outright.

Maybe this guy after the Infinity Gauntlet:

Kang-the-Conqueror.jpg

I like this idea. Kang being all about time travel can swing this in an utterly different direction. Kang needs to show up in one of these films. And if by then MS has the FF back then they can add that extra layer to it all.
