Anyone else here noticed they moved the 2 minority titular hero films (BP and Cpt Marvel) to calendar Q1 releases? Not exactly a great time of the year for tentpoles. Cap TWS in Apr was the earliest release they've done and that was with a known property. I certainly hope Marvel isn't setting these 2 franchises up to fail.

Wonder if this decision gets made were Feige still under Perlmutter.

Considering how much of penny pincher and sexist he is, I seriously doubt it.

Probably also the reason why solo a Black Widow film hasn't been made up to this point, which is what I'm guessing, like everyone else, what one of the mystery films is.

Batman v Superman is a Q1 release. Studios are very clearly trying to release big films in more months.

March is becoming a tentpole release month.

Good point about BvS. Still, those are 2 very well known properties, WB can probably flag any weekend for that film and still do well.

I'm counting down the days until someone complains that the Wasp's name comes after Ant-man's in the title :o

LOL! I'm surprised I still haven't seen anyone complain that a female hero was pushed back yet again to make room for a male one (nevermind the fact that Scott and Hope seem to be splitting the spotlight this time around...)

have you been to the Ms. Marvel boards today? I guess there is, where the action is

I was annoyed about that actually but it's offset by them moving Black Panther forward and bumping Wasp up to co-lead status. So it's not like the last time where they went and pushed back their two diverse movies for another white dude movie.

Elsewhere online I've seen rather harsh reactions from feminist film fans that didn't actually seem to know that Wasp is a woman.

Well Wasp being partner, while better than nothing, isn't exactly the same as a female hero getting her own movie.

Kind of true... But it's also not like Ms Marvel was cancelled, either. Logically, you would think the fact that Marvel added another female as a major hero in their Phase 3 line-up would make up for pushing Ms Marvel back a few months... But I find the extreme feminists are generally incapable of using logic.

Nah, I get their annoyance though. Like I said, it's not as bad as the last shake-up of the schedule, but I can see why Captain Marvel getting pushed back again is annoying for them.

Captain Marvel (or just a female hero in general) has been a long time coming so I can see why folks are getting impatient. IMO that's more the fault of the studios and Hollywood in general.

Each of the three is a big announcement. Obviously, they liked Ant-Man's success and want a sequel within a reasonable amount of time (maybe they also like Lang's appearance in Civil War).

Moving Black Panther forward to February: February has traditionally been somewhat weak. That being said, they could be going for a Kingsmen success (and hoped for Deadpool success). It could suggest a slightly lower budgeted movie, though.

Disappointed by Captain Marvel's postponement. I guess they definitely didn't want four movies in a year.

People are rightfully annoyed because Marvel is trying to have their cake and eat it too - saying Wasp is their first headlining female character, while we all know she's still playing 2nd fiddle to to a white guy, and while pushing back their actual first headlining female character. AGAIN. The first time was for another sequel for another white guy. Sorry, but that's logical annoyance.

hmmm... so, your problem is that Wasp isn't playing second fiddle to a guy of colour?

Pretty sure you get what the problem is.

EDIT: I will say this, though, as I said it on the Captain Marvel board. It's very possible that for what they have planned, Captain Marvel MUST come right before Infinity War: Part 2. She's had 3 release dates so far, and they've all kept her film as the one before IW2, which suggests to me that the two may be significantly tied together from a story perspective. Because the easy solution would have just been to put the new Ant-Man in March 2019, but they don't seem to want any movie to come between CM and IW2. Black Panther has moved all over the place, sometimes before IW1, sometimes after it, but CM has ALWAYS been the movie right before IW2 no matter what. If those two have to remain connected for the story they're trying to tell, I'd be less critical of this decision, but only time will tell on that front.

So are these 2020 movies part of Phase 3 or part of Phase 4?

With the way the press release was structured, those 3 extra movies sound like they're Phase 3, but IMHO anything after AIW2 should just be considered Phase 4, Inhumans included. Until confirmed otherwise, for now I'm going to consider those 2020 films as Phase 4.

Spider-Man sequel is obviously the safe bet for one of those 2020 films.
