MCU: The Marvel Cinematic Universe Official Discussion - Part 4

I've never heard anyone say officially that there can't be any Asian villains. It's an issue probably because there's pretty much no Asian or Chinese superheroes in the MCU at all. You just named Kung Fu films as an example but pretty much all of them star Chinese actors as the heroes and heroines.

If you're referring to the Mandarin situation I imagine that's not just an example of them not wanting to alienate China by having a Chinese villain, but specifically the fact that the Mandarin is kind of an outdated stereotype. Even in America there's a lot of fans who find the character embarrassing.

Though the MCU has been pretty bad about having minority superheroes in general until very recently, not just with Chinese ones.

I was thinking about this recently again.

I wonder if asian superheros/heroes from the mcu tv shows would show up in the movies down the road like quake and agent may.

Of course there are other shield agents that are asian, but in the background.
There are number of black shield agents too and nova members.

There are some asian inhumans/nuhumans i saw in the shield show i think in the background along with some black ones in agents of shield.

I know there is the asian looking hogun from the thor movies but he is a alien, asian looking but not human asian.

Then there was the asian american hero Jim Morita from Captain America: The First Avenger and he was in the peggy carter show in one episode.
He may show up again in season 2.

Elektra for the netflix shows mcu was turned asian, but i think she may stay only on netflix,of course the tv shows/netflix are mcu too.

Dave Bautista who is asian in real life of course is playing drax but drax is not an asian human character.

I think if another major enough asian character shows up in the mcu it will be in the netflix shows and that could be either shang chi or colleen wing or both.

I've been watching Age of Ultron on Blu-Ray. This has officially retaken its place as my favorite MCU film. I freakin love this movie. So many great moments. Almost everything works for me.

And in other Marvel news, I just got a really nice maroon Avengers jacket at Walmart today, along with a 5 dollar Punisher t shirt.

Since they have Daisy and May already, they should make use of them in the movies, particularly Quake. Even start using them in cameo roles in the background. We used to get that sort of thing in the old Star Trek movies, even in the Next Generation ones. We'd see various crew members have a walk on part just saying one line, but it was nice to see them there. I want that sort of thing in the MCU, and think it has been a missed opportunity. They could've had some on the helicarrier in AOU.

I want to see Quake and Nick Fury interact. Their dynamic in the comic was always interesting to me.

Amadeus cho may show up down the road too since his mom is the mcu.

I found these comments interesting.
The MCU MARVEL FORMULA

The mcu netflix shows-

by MamaLukuBuku
The formula works, and I will tell you why they shouldn't apply it to future films: Tiers that offer something a little different for all kinds of fans.

Tier 1: Films- Big budget, over the top, with a target audience of kids. This is where the money comes from that makes the other 2 tiers possible. They can juggle lighthearted and semi-serious here without ruining their target audience.

Tier 2: TV- Agents of Shield and Agent Carter. Dramas that cater to an older crowd, not necessarily meant for a younger audience. Fills in gaps here and there for the movies. Shows a much bigger world of the MCU.

Tier 3: Netflix- This is where Marvel can let loose in a no holds barred grimy bloodbath for the adults. This is the "graphic novel" section of the MCU. Super focused, and as real as it gets with street level heroes.

3 different levels of the MCU for different kinds of fans. Of course some fans will enjoy all 3 so they have the full MCU experience, but what they are doing is perfect and they shouldn't change it.

It's a bit generic but it makes clear that there's something for everyone in the MCU. I don't stick to one genre/tone so am very happy for the variety of their works.

I think the movies have done a pretty good job at balancing the tone so that most people can enjoy them. I don't see them as movies for kids.

By the way i see the mcu movies targeted for kids and adults and they are more serious then some folks think, more so the captain america movies and hulk movie.
The mcu shows have stronger stories on average then the mcu movies.

The only issues with the movies really at the moment are the poor villains and too much humour. With the latter I don't expect them to suddenly make the movies humourless, as for me the DC movies so far have too little humour in them, but I just wish they would cut out the humour in what are supposed to be serious moments. Like when a character dies for example. In fairness, movies like The Avengers, GOTG, Ant Man, Thor and Iron Man balance the humour well.

I wish Marvel would make a pure, unashamed superhero series like Supergirl or the Flash where the hero is in costume fighting bad guys and there are no proto-costumes or civilian clothing.

I just want to see one of these from Marvel, but so far with 2, potentially 3 from ABC, and 3 from Netflix, we've had nothing like this yet. And with the possible Damage Control coming too, that's still not going to be anything superhero but people on the fringes.

The MCU needs to start filling it's universe with more villains, right now they have way too many heroes, almost looks like the status quo of the Watchmen unvierse.

Regarding a colorful straight up superhero show, while i didn't like Supergirl, the idea's not bad, but i have a question: With which Superhero would you do that? Most of "classic Marvel Superheroes" are getting shows on Netflix or are so big that they won't be restrained on the small screen.

Best ones i can think of are She-Hulk and Spider-Woman...now that i think about this, those two could lead into some fun shows. Another possibility would be for an Ant-Man and Wast Prequel series centered around their old adventures.

Not Spider-Woman. She's really suited to the dark Netflix-type of show. It should be in the style of Angel, with maybe a bit of JJ Abrams Alias thrown in. And She-Hulk seems too expensive to do, since she'd have to spend most of her time as She-Hulk. Otherwise she just becomes like the Incredible Hulk TV show where there are only 2 Hulk-outs per show, but the rest of the time she stays as Jennifer Walters. I don't really want that.

For She-Hulk you don't realy need the same effects Hulk does, it's not that difficult to do with pratical effects and some CGI enhancements if needed.

I actuay do agree with you though AVEITWITHJAMON, MCU clearly has a problem with their villains and a lot of fans brought up the issue. Heck there's a thread for it. The obly time I found the humour to be too much was in IM3 and Thor 2. They needed to dial it down Jesus. In Thor 2, it bothered me in the final battle. It lessened the stakes. Yeah it was funny but was too much.

In IM3, it was just I'll conceived situational humour. Like the armour being hit by the truck or when it came to the final battle and just crumbled. I laughed sure, but looking back at it, I could have done without those.

 I laughed at those moments on first watch too, but on re-watch it became more and more apparent that those moments were misplaced. I do agree IM3 and TDW are the worst offenders, it may be why they are my 2 least favourite MCU movies.

Not a particularly apt rundown since the MCU movies aren't aimed at kids, nor are kids generally what brings in the big bucks at the box office. If they were pure kids movies would be much higher on the all time lists. Either the person writing it didn't think things through whatsoever or it's yet another person with an agenda.
