MCU: The Marvel Cinematic Universe Official Discussion - Part 5

Any announcement for when the Hawkeye show is coming out?

WandaVision feels like a weird name to me. They're really downplaying the Scarlet Witch name, it seems.
I think its a place holder for the real title.

I don't think it is a temp title. The only unveiled 2 series logos, and that was one of them. I don't think a logo title would have been made or shown if it was a temp one.

Well I hope they change it, it sounds stupid. Falcon and winter soldier is okay, but visionwanda is just terrible.

It might be because she's always addressed as "Wanda" by other characters meaning casual audiences might be confused if they put "Scarlet Witch".

The vision and Scarlett witch series sounds promising too.
That's probably the one I'm most excited for besides Hawkeye.

Wanda is undoubtedly one of the most powerful characters/mutants in the MU, I hope we get some glimpses of that in the show. Also, retconning her back into being an mutant. Thank God they didnt do the Inhumans thing

'Wanda's Vision' would be a better name, although still cheesy.
WandaVision sounds like an offshoot of the Spanish TV network Univision. Lol.

WandaVision makes me think of Charlie and the Chocolate Factory.

After seeing the newest Star Wars trailer, there is no doubt in my mind that the MCU has become this generation's Star Wars and surpassed its popularity.

I thought WandaVision was just a spelling mistake or something. I hate that name: what happened to Vision & The Scarlet Witch? That was a great title.

There's no doubt that the MCU is bigger than Star Wars now. However, I found the trailer, in particular the end of it, to be quite compelling.

I'm surprised Marvel doesn't have its own celebration event yet like Star Wars celebration.

Honestly, given the choice of which one to use their first names, I'd rather the first show be "Sam and Bucky" and the second show be "The Vision and the Scarlet Witch."

I totally get that but two things: One, they do refer to her as the Scarlet Witch in merchandising (I think some of the toys do it). Second, that's actually part of the reason I'd prefer it. They've hinted at the name with a couple people referring to her as "that witch" or "the witch" but they clearly are apprehensive about saying the name. If you put it in the title, you'll help get people more used to it without having to put it in the show.

They’ve certainly got more than enough material to do that.

I definitely prefer V&tSW.

I definitely prefer V&tSW.

I must be the only person online who isn't bothered by WandaVision (or Wanda/Vision). All I care about is the show being good. :-)

Maybe that name was chosen because Marvel wanted Wanda's name to be first in the title. Also, she has never been called "The Scarlet Witch" in the MCU, so using the name that the general audience knows her by will prevent any confusion.

I don’t have a problem with Wanda vision but then again I rarely care about titles. It’s not great but no one will care if the show is good.

Kevin Fiege speaks more about the Fox-Disney deal. @Darkprime @Marvel united. @Willie Lumpkin. You three in particular might get a kick out of his comments.
Feige: “The specifics of what it means remains to be seen, but overall it’s wonderful and it feels like these characters have come home,” “It will be nice to have what every other [intellectual property] holder that I can think of has, which is access to all their IP. Imagine if Donald Duck was at another studio. Imagine if Goofy or Moana were someplace else and you didn’t have access to them even though they are yours.”
:funny: Damn. I wonder if Feige was a bit jealous at Warners Bros for having access to their entire catalogue of characters while he was stuck with mostly the B-list leftovers but they haven't done too badly with those leftovers given how much in billions they make. These comments make me think Feige always wanted the X-Men and FF badly and his comments about waiting for five years the X-Men to arrive shouldn't be taken too literally. Though I still prefer they wait a while.

Feige also confirms that Deadpool will remain R-rated under Marvel Studios. It also at the same time seemingly confirms that Ryan Reynolds will remain Deadpool for the MCU.
“When we were purchased, Bob[Iger] said to us, ‘if it’s not broke, don’t fix it,'” said Feige. “There’s no question that Deadpool is working, so why would we change it?”

All these quotes are from a profile that Variety did on Feige's career at Marvel. I highly recommend people read it. Its a good read. Here's the link below.

For what its worth, those "leaks" at least sound plausible. They don't read like the typical wish fulfillment "leaks" which are one third obvious guesses, one third vague claims, one third fanboy wish fulfillment. These are specific, but in ways which are not trivially obvious nor universally wished.

I hope to see more Asian actors in the MCU with Eternals and Shang Chi. For now, I am cool with Wong and Mantis. And the number of black actresses in the MCU has risen rapidly over the past year, Zoe Saldana, Tessa Thompson, Letitia Wright, Danai Gurira, Lupita Nyong'o, Angela Bassett, Hannah John-Kamen and Lashana Lynch. Don't know if Lynch or John-Kamen will return.

It definitely seems like something that bothered him

 Ever since the deal closed, there's been a feeling of 'rightness'.

And I just love the idea that anything can happen now. It was frustrating watching previous Marvel films and having a perfect opportunity to introduce or reference a certain character and knowing it just couldn't happen.

It will be a lot more fun watching Marvel films now and knowing Silver Surfer or Galactus, or even smaller characters like Thundra could appear at any time.

It's definitely comforting

Hoping for ‘Daredevil’ and ‘Jessica Jones’ Revivals? It’s Going to Take Longer Than Just 2 Years

According to a production executive, Disney has been warned by lawyers not to even think about developing new content featuring the characters of Daredevil, Jessica Jones, Luke Cage, Iron Fist, and The Punisher until the two-year mark. The clarification is an important once, as it means Disney probably won’t be spending time during the next two years working on new material with these characters to launch new series in 2020. If Disney can’t even begin developing a new Daredevil series until 2020, then it’s going to take much longer than just two years for the character to return to the big or small screen. Another option is Disney does not revive the superheroes at all.

“Daredevil” released its third and now final season last October on Netflix. The streaming giant canceled the series at the end of November, which came as a big shock to fans. While Netflix canceled “Iron Fist” and “Luke Cage” shortly after “Daredevil” Season 3 premiered, neither of those shows had the kind of following that “Daredevil” did. The “Daredevil” series was Netflix and Marvel’s flagship and pulling the plug (especially after a creative bump in Season 3) did not bode well for “Jessica Jones” and “The Punisher,” both of which were canceled earlier this year. The third season of “Jessica Jones” will still air on Netflix later this year.

See... I think there is a very good chance that they will revive at least DD. As stated in the quotes above it had a penetration into the pop culture that far exceeded the other Netflix offerings. And while legally they can't plan out a DD show thing is... You can't tell me that the people that were working on DD didn't already have some idea of where they were going in season 4. This wouldn't be making a show from scratch. Call it a long shot. Fine. It would mean getting most of that team, behind of and in front of the camera together again. That might be difficult. It also... might not. And I can't help but feel that the support would be there if the show were revived elsewhere.

Frankly if in three years or so Disney announces a streaming service for more mature content that doesn't fit on Disney+ a revived DD would be a hell of a way to entice people.
