Ms. Marvel in the works? - Part 1

Abbie Cornish has a good look for her too.

And, I know I'll get flamed for this, but I also like Jessica Biel. I always thought she was sexy and funny. I think she gets a lot of flack around these boards and, since she's popular, this suggestion may be "uninspired," but I'd be happy with a blonde Biel standing next to Scarlett's BW in a future Marvel film, no doubt.

She gets flack because shes a mediocre actress who has had multiple opportunities to distinguish herself as an actor and has failed to do so. 99% of her movies have been below average or worse. And she has never ever been the best thing about anything she's ever done. Its a shame because she is gorgeous, has a a perfect physique for a comic book hero, and has a long resume.

If you dont believe me about all her movies sucking, please refer to Rotten Tomatoes. I was actually surprised how consistent it was. Exceptions: Ulee's gold, her first movie, was good and The Illusionist, where she's a glorified prop, was okay (didnt care for it personally). That's about it.

And Chewy I think its unfair to compare Tatum to her. Hes had a nice run of good flicks lately: Haywire (not a fave, but decent), Magic Mike and 21 Jump Street. He had starring roles in two of those and had to handle comedy and action and drama in all three. Plus he made a much more convincing stripper than Biel did. The guy has surprised me, given his Biel-esque track record. Totally different career trajectories.

That said, shes about to become Mrs. Timberlake, shes still hot as f***, and shes not a terrible actress, so she will probably keep getting work. I could see her in a sequel to Magic Mike for example. Magic Mica?

I do have a suspicion about her: she actually has some talent. I saw footage of her performing Guys and Dolls with an orchestra and she was really good. Its possible that her horrendous choices in parts/movies has obscured or stunted her potential. Shame cuz the camera loves her.

All that said, if Joss Whedon could make something out of Sarah Michelle Gellar...

No doubt Jessica Biel has been in some pretty crappy stuff, but even Rotten Tomatoes can be a little stuffy with their critique of films. Movies like Valentine's Day and Chuck Larry are no There Will Blood, for sure, but as comedies, I laughed and enjoyed them, so I don't understand the harsh negativity.

A lot of her jobs are fluff, true, but I agree if any one can get potential out of her it'd be Joss Whedon. And there's also her Hitchcock film she's in, so perhaps we may see a bit of range from her.

I think with a solid script and good direction, she could take on the role.

Or Dushku for that matter, Lol... Jessica Biel could pwn under Joss' direction. Wow. That'd be epic. Sign me up for that. I guess, despite all her mediocreness, I still get the sense that she has some sort of untapped potential. She can't be getting by on mediocrity for years and years, and movie after movie, some of which are actually good.

Well when you have this...

She has some chops but she can't convincingly play tough.

Like I said, female Channing Tatum. They're both built like prototypical Hollywood action stars, they both have some good performances under their belt in other genres. But put a gun in their hands and tell them to act tough and do a stunt or two and it's dreadful.

Yes, she has a ridiculous body. No argument there. I guess if Whedon signs off on it, and hes the one writing and directing, then Im willing to give JB a shot at Ms. Marvel.

And Dushku is another good example, though what Whedon asked of her in Dollhouse was beyond her abilities unfortunately.

I would like alice eve or ali larter or Yvonne strahovski in the role. even the chick that played supergirl/kara in smallvillle would work.

A really important question when it comes to a discussion of Ms. Marvel: Do the film rights to the Kree Empire belong to Fox or Marvel?

If Marvel has the Skrulls and the Inhumans and the Black Panther and Namor I figure they have the Kree, too.

Fox might have Ronan, in the same way they have Super-Skrull.

Carol Danvers doesn't need to be a tough cookie, though. She's had two main backstories --- either security chief at Cape Canaveral, or a fighter pilot. Neither job requires infantry/spec op physicality, just great reflexes and smarts. And once she gets superpowers, well, that's cheating anyway. Besides, old school Ms. Marvel (back in the red and blue Mar-Vell miniskirt days) was played as a fluffy blonde.

Also, Carol's super-strength is of alien origin. It's not like she needs to be muscular or jacked to justify lifting things. It's nice to have people who at least look strong play stronger characters, but her muscles have little to do with her strength.

I could see Ms Marvel featuring in GOTG...

I could, too. In fact, I figure that's the only reason for casting rumors for her this early....they intend a "non-powered" cameo in a Phase II film.

But it would support the belief that she is strong if she is -at least - in athletic shape.

Right and whatever actress then ended up hiring would have a few months to hit the gym, at least.

People still accept Angelina Jolie as an action heroine and she's not exactly built like a tank. Because she has that demeanor about her, she can pull off the performance.

That's not the kind of acting I'd want for Ms. Marvel.

I have to say, I just saw Looper, and while Emily Blunt's character was not anything like Carol Danvers, I believe she portrayed a character with a lot of strength [BLACKOUT](though towards the end she fell into helpless mother cliches.)[/BLACKOUT]. She looked great as a blonde to boot.

I know it's just the daily mail, and it's not to be taken seriously, but if it were to pass, she'd have my full vote of confidence.

Kate Beckinsale is teh awesome. But I don't know about her being Ms Marvel...

Seems like she only does action movies when her husband directs them. And dear god I do not want a Len Wiseman directed Marvel movie
