Ms. Marvel in the works? - Part 1

Agreed. Hot, ;)

......but not Ms. Marvel.

Seems like she only does action movies when her husband directs them. And dear god I do not want a Len Wiseman directed Marvel movie

I would love a Len Wiseman directed Image movie though...

Thread killer.

I was just thinking; if there were to be a Ms. Marvel movie (which I doubt there will be), I'd like to see Wonderman in it.

Really???

His backstory is so convoluted, he doesn't really fit very well with anything but a Masters of Evil film. Could be interesting though, depending on how his backstory goes.

Eff Wonderman. In the ear. In fact, I'd rather watch a no-budget Wonderman ear-porn movie than see him in a Marvel film.

When Squirrel Girl has had her movie trilogy, then I guess they could throw Wonderman into one of their movies. As long as hes written as comic relief. Preferably an ethnic stereotype of some sort. Seriously, eff that guy.

On-topic: Im enthused by the caliber of talent that seem to be up for the role. Lately Ive been thinking it might be fun to cast against type, just sort of re-imagine the character completely. The power set is fine, but i always found Ms Marvel to be a bit generic in the comics. Now I hope they tap someone who will be a real surprise in this kind of character. Sort of an anti-Strahovski type. (Strahovski would be fine though)

Ms. Marvel is INCREDIBLY generic. She flies, shoots energy blasts, is blonde, and wears a skimpy outfit. That's her entire character. That's why I don't get why she's so popular, and such a top priority on here.

Oh...just figured it out.

So many great choices for the role, yet people want the crappy Beckinsale. :csad:

Cheer up Toby, Fancasting has absolutely no bearing on who gets cast.

Whatever, man. She's a powerful woman. That's been the core of her appeal for decades, and that still appeals today. Skimpy outfit or not (she sells more without it, fyi). And at this point, that would be quite unique amongst the MCU. Now making that something cool and unique apparently requires an act of God for the power fantasy writer, but the reward for that risk is making out a place as the premiere superheroine, perhaps for the rest of modern history. That's worth prioritizing, at least as much as any other unreleased/unannounced franchise.

There are plenty of powerful women with interesting back stories/ powers.

I don't see how Carol is any less interesting than the many other heroines. And I'd rather get a movie with a heroine I like especially if there's an audience for it, than wait around for other more deserving heroines that are stuck in development hell because of studio issues.

I think Marvel Studios has the rights to more interesting heroines, personally.

More interesting heroins like who?

Its more about her story. She is a female pilot who helps an alien soldier save the Earth and in doing so gains his powers. She is now a female hero on the same power level as Thor and Iron Man. Thats why changing her name to Captain Marvel and giving her a more conservative and iconic costume was a good idea. Now you can see past the skimpy costume to her actual character and story. At least I think thats what they want for the character.
her backstory is very intersting though. And thats why I think it would make a great movie. She is a SHIELD/SWORD agent and pilot. She is established as a capable and strong human woman. Then she meets and helps an alien soldier and while they are both trying to save Earth she gains his powers (probably as he dies) and she becomes the new Captain Marvel. Now the Marvel movies have not only introduced the Kree, but also have taken the next logical step that SHIELD would do with the introduction of SWORD and now the Marvel movie universe has a very strong female lead character on the same level as Stark or Thor or Captain America.

I guess to be fair, Hal Jordan is very vanilla, too. As was Mar-Vell for that matter.

i am of the opinion that fox owns marvel's best heroines - jean grey, storm, sue storm, etc.

They do. But Marvel still has Scarlet Witch, Wasp, She-Hulk, Black Widow...all of which are less...vanilla than Carol.

Comic Iron Man was the most vanilla character in the world for most of his existance. They made him work

Scarlet Witch is the only female Avenger with more film potential, imo, and she's in a murky situation

You really weren't a Tony fan were you?

Most of Iron Man's solo comic run was pretty terrible, yeah. I loved Extremis and the character always had potential.

Just like, drumroll... Ms Marvel :cwink:

I love a lot of Iron Man's solo stories, though I admit that his personality was always a bit bland.

I just don't see how you can compare a character with 500 + issues plus assorted minis to a character who might have 75 solo comics among 3-4 volumes.

This is true, but they, with the exception of Widow, those are all part of more popular male characters. We already have Widow, and the reason she doesn't satisfy the superheroine craving is because she has no superpowers. Carol is unique in that she A) Has super powers and B) Has eclipsed her more popular male counterpart.

How is Scarlet Witch a part of a more popular male character? She's definitely more popular than Quicksilver, and just as popular and as well known as the Vision. Unless you meant Magneto, I think you're wrong.

For the record, Ms. Marvel is a spin-off of a male superhero. Just a friendly reminder. ;)

A character with untapped potential is a character with untapped potential. Doesn't really matter how long it went untapped imo

Look how many people are clamoring for a Black Panther movie over Dr Strange or Daredevil or Moon Knight
