New Mutants New Mutants News and Discussion - Part 1

u know what, and this is an unpopular opinion, but if Fox now wants another hit like It or stranger things so bad, they should have known better since the beggining and sign a very young cast for this particular comic, you know, just how New mutants started, with almost kids meeting Charles and getting to the school. I never understood why Fox and producers went for 20 something actors for this story, just like the X-Men prequels. Talk about being redundant.

if young X-Men actors from Apocalypse have around 19 and 24, why doing the same with new mutants, when it was the perfect comic to explore a new territory and audience? big mistake there, imo. (as good as Anya, Maisie and co are) but to me it was always a mistake. Fox just decided to appeal to the same audience as X-Men movies, same demo I mean. this comic was done to appeal to a different demo. but Fox failed there. And now after the test screening, they suddenly want something closer to It and Stranger things (both starred by children) :whatever:
The irony

They can advise all the want doesn't mean that Fox has to listen to them. Feige advised the ASM team on the sequel and they didn't listen to him.

Yep. Through the licensing deal, Marvel can advise on the properties. They just never really did since the first couple of X-Men.

Jeff Snyder said on Meet the Movie Press today that he is hearing (not confirmed) that New Mutants will get a theatrical release BUT that Disney may want the film and its sequels for their big streaming service launch next year.

That would require a move over to Disney Studios as HBO's pay TV contract with 20th Century Fox runs through 2022.

The folks at FOX would have a tad more incentive to listen to Feige now than the Sony folks did then.

This was all Boone.
There's little to no chance of a sequel.
Fox cannot make this a good /successful movie without reshooting the whole thing minus the horror theme, with a new script and director.

Im sorry, dont want to be rude or anything, but I highly doubt the movie is bad, as u suggest.

The people at Fox more than likely don't care because they won't be working at Disney when the deal is done.

It's all good friend. Everyone that wants to will eventually get the chance to experience the horror that is the New Mutants movie. Lol

Great. I don't like what I am seeing. I am willing to wait for the MCU version (if we get one) than to witness a trilogy of Boone's new mutants in name only.

So if you worked on this movie as you say, I can't help but be apprehensive. Is the movie really bad, or do you just not like it because you were in love with a version of the film that existed before Boone came aboard? Because the way some of your posts have come aboard, you don't seem to be giving us a objective view with a lot of anger directed towards the director.

yeah, thats why I find it weird, one would guess most people that worked on a (potentially) cool and fresh movie would be excited or less cold on the product.

Well, if he did work on it and hates the director, then it's reasonable for him to not like it. What I don't get, though, is why he remained working on it under a director who through his posts, he clearly thinks is a moron. Hell, he even mentions in one of his posts that there were some people who were fired, he himself may have been or his friends may have been.

If everything's fine it wouldn't be delayed ten months especially when promotion have already started.

I have Dark Phoenix to look forward first for the horror Xperience.

Yes I have a bias against JB. I'll just put it this way, he's not a very kind individual when it comes to dealing with the "little people". But my statements regarding New Mutants are accurate. It is not a good movie. Some may like it when the final product hits the theatres, but there is a consensus among literally everyone I know that has seen this film as it is now, and that consensus is that the movie is bad. Real bad. Fox literally delayed this thing almost a year. And believe me, they didn't do that because it's a wonderful motion picture.

What do you think about Simon Kinberg?

All right, well, if he's a Napoleonic ******* who treated you and your friends bad, then maybe he gets what's coming to him in a year.

I really liked the idea of making New Mutants with horror tone. I really, really liked it because, as you said, there are elements in the comics. So it fits if you want to make something different while still embracing the material. However, NM is not at all a straight horror story. It's about most of all a group of superhero kids trying to figure out themselves and their powers.

The movie needs to build its heart in its characters instead of being straight horror. So if they're reshooting to add more character interactions and tone down the horror, that's more than fine with me.

And I always thought the Stranger Things tone of horror would be much better than the one presented in the trailer. And Stranger Things invests much more in building that heart in the kids than exploring horror elements.

perfectly put together, I never would have said it better or even close. and yeah, I agree. I understand Fox/Boone for trying to do something new and selling this movie in a different way, but it has a risk of loosing the comics magic. And a part of that, at least to me in the comics, was that they were almost kids in horrible situations, and all of that is lost when I see 20 years sold or so actors (just like Hunger Games, Maze Runner, or Power Rangers)

Fiege can't get there any sooner for me, so sick of the Fox-Men.

From Bill Sienkiewicz

I’m actually ok w #NewMutants delayed release; yes,it will be frustrating to wait, but it gives more time for focus & planning, esp. w the merger/consolidation. Everyone I’m working w at #Fox is a fan of characters & films on their roster. More time to get excited & do cool stuff

The news of a delayed release is interesting. A month or so ago I saw the trailer at the theater and posted in here that it had turned off me and my wife and daughter. Sounds like it has gotten a lot more bad reviews. I know some of you are looking forward to another vision of the mutants....but it looks like the studio misjudged the small niche fans of a horror XMen movie.

They're making it more horror...

People complete films in 10 months though. Making it "more scary" or "more horror" just tells me it wasn't a good horror film or film in general.

Was really looking forward to this despite thinking the trailer was weak. This was so close to release. Bummer.

Yeah, I read that....but it also said they were going to make it less depressing. That's what I meant.....they apparently misjudged that the horror fans also wanted super grim/depressing mixed in with their horror.

Guess we'll see next year! lol

Not sure why Sienkiewicz is bringing up the merger, though... unless he knows something we don't.
