I don't think that has anything to do with it. I honestly think it has more to do with the merger because that's actually around where it might start to be finalized. They say it could take something like 12 to 18 months, unless the reshoots are BECAUSE of the merger. Like Disney straight up has no interest in a horror based X movie, came in, and hit the deny button. They shouldn't have that much control over anything like that at this point, but...this is Disney we're talking about.

Even if it is Disney who doesn't want this movie, my point remains the same: likely heavy reshoots. It doesn't matter at the end of the day if it is FOX, Disney, whoever. Reshoots are reshoots regardless of motive.

I doubt it. Disney would probably want this film released asap, so there would be fewer Foxverse films in 2019. And Disney doesn't have a big incentive to this, its not the next Deadpool or Dr. Strange for them to even bother ordering for reshoots.

Glad they are pushing this more towards horror. I want comic book films breaking out into other genres. I like having multiple flavors. Rather than just plain ol' "vanilla".

I'm simply saying that I think the only way it's reshoots is if Disney wants them. That's all.

I was thinking that too, but what if Disney shocks us all and more or less keeps the Fox X-UNIVERSE the way it is? What if they more or less retain the look and feel and simply fold that into what already exists? I doubt that's the plan, but hell...who knows?

I doubt Marvel Studios want to cannibalise Marvel films after the merger. They would want to maintain quality and quantity control. Something Fox has failed to do in their films.

Well the word from the insiders is, the movie isn't even good and Boone's direction didn't help the film at all and now they are trying to salvage it. Either by making it more horror or more commercial.

I completely agree. That's really the only thing that interested me about this movie at all. I didn't give two ****s about it until I caught the trailer, and it managed to capture some of that 80's nostalgia horror feeling.

Ouch...ok...guess reshoots ARE the reason for the major push back.

The movie is simply not good enough according to the insiders. I wonder if Dark Phoenix gets moved as well when it starts doing test screenings.

I am beyond concerned about Dark Phoenix all because of Kinsberg. The only saving grace is the fact that it all gets a brand new coat of paint with Disney colors.

Mess.

Disney would probably just let these films die. Who knows if they have their own vision for the Mutants and want to implement it to their own line of MCU films in the not so distant future.

I would imagine they do have their own outline of what they'd like to see happen with these characters. It would be foolish to think they didn't.

I am sure they do. Feige said that they have contingency plans. Though they are probably not sharing it to Fox until the deal is approved by Doj.

Ok, I'm confused now. Didn't they say, right after the deal announcement, that Marvel would be supervising FOX's Marvel properties in the immediate future? Can somebody clearfy that to me?

What I understood is that, while the deal was still not completely done, Marvel would "help" produce FOX Marvel movies. I thought FOX would still have the power to greenlit whatever project they want, but Marvel would be acting creatively there too, something like that.

No, that’s not the case. Disney/Marvel cannot be involved in the Fox movies until the deal has been finalised.

At least not in any official or formal capacity. And I really doubt Feige and co would want to be involved in the Foxverse, they have their own plans for the X-Men and F4...

Yeah. Hell, the merger won't even technically be a done deal for at least 12 to 18 months. All kinds of things have to be vetted and approved. I don't even pretend to have any sort of clue what all goes into something this massive. :o

All these bad news is probably good news for them. I just hope New Mutants, Dark Phoenix and Gambit(if it ever sees the light of day) won't do too much damage, so the MCU would touch the characters in those movies as soon as they can.

When I think of comic horror stories, sorry, I never thought of New Mutants. I always saw them as a new X-Men mutant superhero team similar to the X-Men but different.

Demon Bear and the story immediately following Secret Wars II (with the nightmare grave scene) are probably among the more unsettling/creepy stories in comics, so New Mutants could fit in horror. I'd also argue that they could do Inferno (not Bill Sienkiewicz, but Bret Blevins) as a comedy-horror film a la The Evil Dead 2. I agree that I don't look at New Mutants and see Horror Franchise, but I do look at Demon Bear and see horror.

Gambit is dead. They just need to stop trying. That **** is embarrassing at this point.

I've never read Demon Bear, but that certainly seems to be the general consensus. I remember looking up comic horror stories before New Mutants was even in the pipeline, and Demon Bear was pretty close to the top, so it must be somewhat creepy.

I'm not so sure about that. Disney can't dictate what FOX does with characters they control under the licensing agreement before the deal is finalized. But could folks at Marvel Studios and/or Marvel Entertainment advise FOX on their handling of Marvel characters up until the turnover date? I don't see why not. It would make sense for both parties to allow for a smooth transition in (probably) 2019.

Its better off if they concentrate on their own plans as of now. Anyway, Fox should be smarter when you know they have less than two years left before Disney literally owns them. And I really doubt Fox could make more Marvel films in the next 17 months especially with how these things are going for New Mutants and Gambit.

Seems to be a lot of confusion about what's going on with New Mutants, so for clarity purposes I'm going to sum it up for everyone.

This has nothing to do with Disney.

JB made a crappy horror movie that just happened to have the New Mutants in it.

Fox recognized their mistake shortly after the release of the trailer. The public reaction to the trailer was generally confusion & disinterest.

It will be released.

They are not doubling down on that pricks "genius vision" by making the film darker. Even Fox (believe it or not) understands this would be a bad idea.

Reshoots are intended to lighten the tone of this crappy horror movie that just happens to have the New Mutants in it.

Anyone who says this "film" tested even remotely positively is mistaken. Nobody likes JB's excrement (oh I'm sorry I meant movie).

Myself and the majority of the folks whom I worked with are of the opinion this movie cannot be fixed with reshoots alone. It's just that bad.

Fox has a complete "movie" that they've invested big money in. But they are too cheap to redo it all, so they're doing some reshoots in the hopes that they can break even.

I can personally confirm that people high up were warned beforehand that this would not work as a horror movie. They did not listen. I think in part because what was in the works before JB came aboard required a significant budget increase.

The only redeeming quality of this movie is the actors. They did a phenomenal job with what they had to work with. Yet another reason this whole thing is just sad.

Hope that covers it.
