It is the idea that it doesn't represent that already know and love, agreed in why people criticize it alright. It's not Donner or Bruce Timm, therefore it sucks because it's not mine. When I congratulate them on taking risks, being bold and trying something very different. I don't mean to make this Marvel vs DC (I enjoy both) but I think that was the problem with Cap 1 for me. Sure there was HYDRA and an older Bucky, but I felt it was all too familiar, that I have seen this countless times before. What is complete horse crap? NOOOOO! Of course not. But it didn't wow me in any sense, just "ok decent film" and moved on.

Think I'm gonna have a third and final viewing next week. Anyone in the same boat?

Third viewing this weekend, yes. Final? No, probably not!

SF author John Scalzi has posted his review: http://whatever.scalzi.com/2016/03/29/my-review-of-batman-v-superman-and-its-reviews/

Here's the closing paragraph:

Personally, and again, I think the Snyderverse iteration is just fine — not amazing, but perfectly serviceable with some great visual moments and an underlying (if not especially well-developed) ethos about the responsibilities that those with great power have to those who look to them for salvation, or fear their wrath. It’s good enough, in other words, to keep me interested in what comes next. I’m not hatewatching these films. I’m just watching them, happily enough.

Seeing as the news came out today about Hans Zimmer retiring from superhero movies. Who would you guys like to see take over the reigns for most of the DC movies?

Someone who has not worked at Zimmer's Media Ventures/Remote Control, i.e. Dominic Lewis, Henry Jackman, Harry Gregson-Williams, Junkie XL, Lorne Balfe, et al. The only person that has really broken free from those shackles is John Powell, but he's on sabbatical right now.

Although I would like the replacement composer(s) to maintain some thematic continuity in Justice League. It'd be nice if the composer took Zimmer's material and expanded upon it like Danny Elfman did with Alan Silvestri's Avengers theme. Something like that would be terrific.

Ideally, my replacement composers would be the Dynamic Music Partner trio of Lolita Ritmanis, Michael McCuiston, and Kristopher Carter. They worked with the late, great Shirley Walker on several DC animated series, and their scores really elevate the shows.

Brings a smile to my face, haha.

Just came from our second viewing with my son. We both still enjoyed it. Just can't see where this hate is coming from.

A few quick things I thought about...

-One concern was how they are going to deal with Clark coming back after the town thought (and saw his body) he was dead. I believe the town knows he is Superman. In MoS after Clark saves the school bus. Peter Ross's mom said she saw him save the bus and even mentioned Lana saw it. Plus, Clark never hid his appearance before he became Supes. Also, it was only a couple of dozen mourners. So they may have known.

-Regarding Clark being dead to the world. If this was the comics or a tv show. I would be concerned. But, odds are from now on. The movies will be dealing with Superman and Darkseid. So odds are we won't be seeing much of Clark as Clark.

Very good point! I didn't even think of that, would be nice to see someone come in and take what Hans did and elevate apon it but keep that sound.

I enjoyed the movie more on second viewing.

The future dream sequence made more sense to be and I was braced for the things I thought were stupid first time round. Also, on first viewing I thought the Doomsday fight was incomprehensible but I could make sense of it this time round (probably because I knew where to look to see what was going on).

On first viewing I enjoyed everything up to and including the warehouse fight but hated everything that followed but on second viewing I tolerated the second half more.

Will definitely buy the Ultimate version on blu ray.

Absolutely spot on

I am sick of hearing Superman/Batman wouldn't do that or Superman/Batman would find another way. They're projecting different versions and their respective worlds onto the new one.

I find it so strange that fans aren't just taking these as elseworlds. I get that Man of Steel promoted itself as taking inspiration from things like Birthright, Secret Origin, and All-Star, etc. But we knew there'd be changes.

Very few changes that they've made have I found to be just distasteful or pointless, like [BLACKOUT]Jimmy.[/BLACKOUT]

I have to remind myself that the MCU is just an elseworld sometimes too to reconcile my gripes with those films.

Weirdly enough, the film series I had to do this with least was The Amazing Spider-Man.

yeah,,,by ignoring the totality of more than 70 years of character layers, they only want their versions of Superman/Batman on screen. well, they should just pitch their scripts to WB.

that's why trying to please all comic fans is a losing cause, especially those entitled purists.

For the most part, I can accept changes to characters if I am enjoying the movie.

This. If the change doesn't inherently defeat the purpose of the character, and it's well-written, that's all that matters.

That's why despite loving Man of Steel, I can't buy Superman not saving Pa.

So did everyone love the Bruce Wayne training/building Krypyonite weapons montage or just me?

They will definitely keep the Zimmer's themes in the future films. His Superman theme is perfection.

And WB owns the rights to that theme, it's not Zimmer's theme, it belongs to WB.

It's the Anti-Cliche movie.
Yes!

Those scenes were so thrilling! Rage in Bruce's face while he was working out was priceless. :woot:
