Official 'The Hobbit' Thread - - Part 18

Can't wait to grab my Five Armies extended blu ray soon. Not long now. Never got to see the film in the theater and opted to wait for the EE.

You did the right thing. The theatrical cut is unfinished and chopped to hell.

Did any of the extended scenes explain Radagast's fate? Since he never appeared in the LotR trilogy i thought he was going to die or fail in some way.

PJ's currently reworking deleted Radagast footage from this movie so that he can include a "what happened to him" sequence in FotR's 20th anniversary special edition. The sequence is rumoured to last 45 minutes.

20th anniversary already lol yikes

can there be a LOTR and Hobbit box set? Or does LOTR being a New Line film make that impossible?

New Line's a subsidiary of WB, so totally possible/very likely.

So my DVD copy of the extended edition should be arriving today (yes, I still buy DVD copies. While we have a blu-ray player, it's only in the main family room so DVD copies come in handy if someone and their friends are utilizing the main room and something else wants to be watched in one of the other rooms - plus I feel more comfortable loaning out DVD copies to family members). Alas, I will not be able to enjoy it on beautiful blu-ray because the Amazon exclusive collector's set (that comes with the statue) has been delayed. Got this in my email this morning:

You're not alone. Over on Blu-ray.com a number of members 3D blu-ray set with the statue is backordered or something. Their expected delivery date was today but as of yesterday it hadnt shipped. And they are prime members. Amazon seems to have dropped the ball on this release.

They look so gorgeous next to each other:

Went into Walmart this afternoon had to take a double take when I saw the Bofa EE! Can't get it until thursday tho

Just finished watching the extended edition....guess I will have to wait until tomorrow to watch the extras.

What did you think of the EE? Just curious as it comes out next week here in the UK.

I love it. There's extra action, extra humor, extra sentimentality......I am constantly awestruck by what Jackson puts on the screen. I've watched the EE, then watched it with the commentary, and am at this moment on the second disc of extras.

The extended edition was better than the theatrical cut. My favorite added scenes were the ones that had nothing to do with the battle: the Bilbo and Bofur scene and the funeral. I still wish there were more added character beats for Bilbo, Gandalf and Thorin. I do think that acorn scene during the battle that was cut should have been put back.

But as always with these extended Middle Earth films, the special features and documentaries are unrivaled. They have never failed to impress me.

Does The Hobbit extended edition trilogy come with any new extras? Or does it have all the extras that are on the single extended releases?

I think the discs are exactly the same, so no new extras.

Good stuff, the movies are the main attraction for me rather than the extras so glad it's better as an EE as I liked the theatrical already.

That's a thing of beauty. I'm not a big fan of the Hobbit films (especially BoFA) but I'm mightily tempted to pick that up.

I'll get the set too. The LotR EE sets are a must to me.

I finished watching all the extras last night. A lot of good stuff.....although part of it makes me dislike Connolly and wish someone else had been cast in his part.

The Battle of Five Armies EE is a good film. To bad the battle scenes were mainly done with CG characters. I understand there wasn't enough time to prep the movie, I just wish they didn't use CG elves in close ups. But I guess the studio didn't give him any time to do reshoot so for the battle. That video explains why Peter looked so exhausted and with greyer hair after he was done with the theatrical release of the BOFA in theaters. When you think about it under the circumstances we got some good films despite the struggles Peter and crew went through.

Hey does anyone know if Warners is going to sell the extended box for those of us who bought the films separately when they were released?
