What about Mrs Pym ?????????? :)

Nah, can't be her. She's somewhere else when these things happen, the traitor had already contacted her ex-husband Hank Pym before they started seeing each other again, and she simply isn't a "soldier", unlike Cap or Fury, she wouldn't wipe out and entire family, including a freakin' BABY, at point blank range.

It's gotta be
Tony.
I just read #8,
he set Cap up as the traitor. He's building an army. It's gotta be him.

Alright, I had this theory worked out in my head, but now I think I've forgot it. So I'm going to attempt to think about it.

I think that Tony Stark/Iron Man is the traitor. Through and through. Fury kept mentioning while pounding at Cap that, "You guys thought we were stupid." Meaning that there's more than one. And then soon after that there's a scene where Tony is getting hassled for building a war plane far beyond military technology. Suspicious no? Millar has mentioned that there will be an Ultimate Red Skull and an Ultimate Ultron. I think Pym is working for the traitor, in some way or another, either that or the traitor is going to steal Ultron from Pym. Now, for Red Skull. Skull might be in league with the traitor, or is one of the friend's Loki mentions is working with the traitor (which basically means the same thing). Skull, at least in 616, is known for taking up identities. And in 616, the Skull that was just recently killed was a clone of Cap. So, back to Ultimate universe, Skull could be impersonating Cap to set him up as the traitor. I'm a little confused about the whole, the Cap we know isn't the real Cap, which, in theory, could mean that the fake Cap is the Red Skull in disguise. I seem to be repeating myself. Now figuring out who or where the real Cap is, I really want to know, I really wish this book was weekly, or at least, wasn't late.

So basically. Stark and Skull are working together and the Skull is a friend of Loki's...or something. Skull is impersonating Cap, and Cap is being set up. Though, I never really read an issue through thoroughly, Fury did mention that Stark's deep sea people found Cap. Which, well, my theory isn't wholly worked out and I need to fix it up more. But there's the gist.

Cap is NOT the traitor, he's just been brought down the same way Thor was, by showing the team a fake videotape (Loki showed them a video of him building the Thor super-tech hardware, and then of Thor going insane and stealing it, and he messed around with Fury's secret cameras, so that they show CAP killing Hawkeye), so now everyone thinks that Thor is a lunatic and that Cap isn't even the real Cap, just some Cap wannabe who betrayed the team. Loki is a genius. And it's either Fury or a still alive Hawkeye.

Hawkeye has absolutely no involvement in this. Would you really let yourself get shot to high heaven just so you can do dirty deeds? Not worth it.

I don't think Loki has anything to do with the videotape. I think the tape is real, it's just someone in disguise as Cap. Ala Red Skull. Who I believe is in league with Tony Stark. It couldn't be Fury, he talked about how he was Hawkeye's daughter's godfather, that's just downright low and Fury would never do that (killing, not being a godfather). Plus the way Fury was when taking down Cap, he was so out of control, and don't give me some halfass concept that he's double teaming, I highly doubt after all he's put together, he's going to take it all apart.

Ultimateverse works differently than 616. Hawkeye taking down some of his own men while getting shot to death just so he can make a nice videotape then later come back and bite everyone in the ass is 616 material, not Ultimateverse, as far as I believe.

Tony Stark is the only one we haven't gotten much gruff on, and all of a sudden he's building a war plane? All of a sudden he finds Cap at the same time they were putting together a super-hero team? Come on. It's right there.

LOL! :p Right.

I have a theroy that Hawkeye is still alive. knowing the furor that kicked up when bendis killed him in Disassembled, Millar wouldn't go killing Ultimate Hawkeye before he's even had a chance to flesh him out properly.

One thing i was thinking about was the earlier issues. Not coming to any definitive conclusions, just thinking about the issues.

We see Cap rescued, conveniently, from the sea, after we're treated to Cap's heroic 'death' scene - a spectacular moment in recent comic history, IMO. I don't think they'd put this opening 'historical' scene in only to show he's really a bad guy in modern times.

We also see Tony Stark talking about 'the next phase of the plan', and clearing out his homes, wine cellars et cetera. getting rid of all teh stuff he's accumulated over the years. Almost like he's preparing for something. He puts it down to the brain tumour (which, i have to say, makes no sense considering nervous tissue is throughout his body, ergo he's probably lying) but maybe there's a more sinister reason.

A couple of people have mentioned Stark building a warplane, has anyone considered that this might be the origin of the ultimate Quinjet? I like the theory that it might be Betty Ross.

Betty Ross might very well be Loki in disguise. In Avengers issue 1 back in September 1963, Loki made the Avengers assemble for the very first time in order to bring down the Hulk (what Loki wanted in reality was for Thor to come out of hiding and fight him on his own turf). In the first storyarc of the Ultimates, Betty Ross drove Bruce Banner to become the Hulk once again, thus forcing the Ultimates to bring him down and making Thor join them, this being their first big fight. Plus, when we see Betty Ross at the S.H.I.E.L.D. press conference at the end of Ultimates 2 issue 8, she's wearing the EXACT SAME OUTFIT that Ultimate Loki has always worn, a black shirt with an obvious pale green overcoat. Betty Ross might be Loki in disguise.

Part 3 (of 6) 32 PGS./PARENTAL ADVISORY ."

At this rate, the last issue of Volume 2, number 12, will come out in May or June 2006. :(

Since we're gonna be talking about the Ultimates and their traitor in THIS thread and THIS thread alone from now on, just remember the number one rule of the conspiracy theorist: It's not insane if it's true, it's not paranoia if they're really after you. ;) :D

And the Avengers can't match Cap combat skills, so he will demolish them.

But this isn't the Avengers in the Marvel Universe, it's the Ultimates in the Ultimate Marvel Universe. But I don't think it's Cap anymore either. He's just been set up like Thor was, with a fake surveillance tape.

I just hope Millar doesn't do a total cop-out since it's his last run on the Ultimates and the Ultimate Universe in general.

By the way it sounds, it might be Tony Stark but I hope its worth finding out.

I still think the traitor is Hawkeye, and that Betty Ross is and always has been Loki in disguise, which would piss-off to no end the homophobic Ultimate Hulk.

I think it be great if it was Iron Man or someone we haven't seen.

If it's someone we haven't seen yet it would suck, it would be like "the traitor was Ultimate WONDER MAN!" and the readers would be like "WTF?!", plus, it would contradict everything that Loki told Thor.
