According to JMC it was hardly advertised over there. Surprising since once of the Jaegers is from Australia.

I have been living in Australia for the past month, I saw lots of advertising on the TV in my 1st 2 weeks, then it just stopped for some reason, maybe they just gave up?

They played the trailer before nearly every M rated film I saw so I wouldn't say it was hardly advertised.
But besides that, next to nothing.

Maybe, its theater count in the US is pretty low for a movie that's suppose to be a blockbuster.

I noticed a decent turnout for Pacific Rim for the 7 p.m. and 10 p.m. shows, particularly the 2D shows. Not great, but definitely not bad.

But man oh man is this entertaining. The action is the raison d'etre of the film (the Hong Kong nighttime fight scene alone is worth the price of admission), and the character filler is a lot more tolerable than Michael Bay's Transformers films or Independence Day.

If word of mouth is good, I think the film could open with $50M+. WB's last two movies weren't tracking that well either (especially The Great Gatsby), but the actual openings exceeded expectations. I don't know if Pacific Rim will do that, but a very entertaining film.

HA! :woot:

I saw a good few on channels 90 and 99, especially when Friends or Big Bang Theory were playing. Plenty when the Lions were on as well.

I saw posters in the cinemas as well when I went to see WWZ and MOS.

How is the humor? You know we needs our humor in these things. Are Day and Perlman the only ones providing comedy?

Charlie Day definitely brings in the humor, but he's a big caricature most of the part. Ron Perlman's character has some cracking good one-liners, especially at the end. (I don't want to spoil them, just hear them for yourself.)

Oh, and the post-credits scene Collider was talking about? It's technically a mid-credits one, placed in between the end title sequence and end credit scroll. It made me chuckle.

Isn't there an Aussie jaeger mech in the movie? I thought their moviegoers would've ate it up. Anyway, I'd love to see the movie but it's hard to make time for movies when you have small children. Might have to wait until DVD is released.

Hell, even I didn't know there was an Aussie Jaeger.

Yes, its always good to make your mind up on a film before you see it.

I haven't made up my mind, that's just a guess I have based on the marketing and reviews. I don't know how I can make that any clearer. Some of you Kaiju/Del Toro fanboys seriously need to get off the rag. Not everyone is gonna love this movie.

I got a trailer for it with Man of Steel, but other than that I've seen very little in terms of getting word out. I might be seeing it tonight so the audience size will give me an idea of just much is known about this film.

yeah i know. didnt they have some problems with New Zeland? i remember Jackson being on tv and complaiining that they can not do the movie.

in an alternative world where Del Toro is hired and finishes the movie. i would get an unique Hobbit movie with del Toro's vision.

I'm rather glad GDT left The Hobbit. Last thing I want is a forgettable Tolkien film.

There is 3 people here at 10 showing. They're normally sold out

I'm up in Fargo, North Dakota, Us. not neccesarily a big city but not small either. I'm guessing the midnight show will be much bigger, 10 show was not advertised well by the theater

Ya just got back seeing this film. It was okay. The action was good the visuals were nice, the acting was actually not bad but the characters were just too flat. I don't mind cliche at all, but this had nothing to do with cliche, I just felt they were flat.

What really saddens me is the original script by Travis was a million times better. It actually had internal conflict and drama with the characters, Mako hated Raleigh and both could never speak the same language in the script. Through awesome deep emotional stuff with drifting they learned to move together and had a much cooler love story in the script.

I thought the movie was fun in parts and just flat in others.

6.5/10

Thats your opinion.

Mine is that the man has never done anything Ive found to be worthwhile.

You are a unique individual.

On another topic, I doubt I'm gonna see this in theaters. I hate it, but I can't see it this weekend, and next weekend has both Conjuring and Red 2, followed by Wolverine, followed by Elysium, followed by Kick Ass 2. Beyond that I don't even know whether it will still be at my theater.

Too bad that's exactly what the Hobbit turned out to be. GDT directing would have done a lot more to make it distinct from LotR, instead we have Jackson trying to cram in as much of LotR and its cast as he can.

July 19th has an odd number of movies. The Conjuring is fantastic btw I saw it on Tuesday.

The 19th also has RIPD and Refn's Only God Forgives. In some places another horror film, Under the Bed is also coming out.

Though after seeing this it makes me cry that we may never get At the Mountains of Madness by del Toro. I really want to see that as his next project.

going to see this in a few minutes

Jackson has talked about steam punk elements that Del Toro had in mind for Hobbit. One of the dwarves helmets was originally very steampunk with gears and steam and all that. Jackson never elaborated on what else was steam punk just that it was there. Jackson stripped all that stuff when Toro left. I'm all for Hobbit having its own identity, but steampunk has no place in Tolkien.
