July 19th has an odd number of movies. The Conjuring is fantastic btw I saw it on Tuesday.

The 19th also has RIPD and Refn's Only God Forgives. In some places another horror film, Under the Bed is also coming out.

Wow that's a full roster for a single day. That's great to hear Conjuring is good! I can't wait for that!

Jackson has talked about steam punk elements that Del Toro had in mind for Hobbit. One of the dwarves helmets was originally very steampunk with gears and steam and all that. Jackson never elaborated on what else was steam punk just that it was there. Jackson stripped all that stuff when Toro left. I'm all for Hobbit having its own identity, but steampunk has no place in Tolkien.

This is true, del Toro had a far better grasp on the Wargs and probably would have maintained more practical effects.

I didn't like The Hobbit at all because I was expecting LOTR P2. It's LOTR-Lite, toned down for kids. When I rewatched it months later with this in mind, I enjoyed it a lot.

It made over a billion dollars. Pretty sure WB is hella happy del Toro left the project at this point.

I dont think they did that. The story is pretty light compared to LOTR

Of course they toned down the seriousness. Yes, the story itself is and always was lighter than LOTR but the goofiness of the dwarves, the not as violent action and the cartoony villains were purposefully done to be more accessible to a younger demographic. That's why I didn't like it at first, because it wasn't what I expected. At first.

It didn't help that Jackson added so much filler to the first film. Pacing got irritating at times. Should've stayed a two part film IMO.

Man seeing everyone on the Internet loving this film is making me think I should see it again. I liked it but didn't think too much of it. I'm seeing so many people say it's already one of their favorite movies ever. I wish I woulda enjoyed it that much. I'm gonna give it another shot in 2D.

I think that terrific Hong Kong fight is what sells folks on Pacific Rim. Easily the best standout scene in the whole film.

Saw it. It was pretty good. Refreshing not to be disappointed in a geeky movie I've been anticipating. *cough iron man 3 and superman*

Anyone here see it in 2D? Was the action easy to follow? I know some wide shots were clear,But most of the fights in 3D were hard to make out.

OH MY GOD THIS WAS LIKE A WET DREAM

COME ON AMERICA DO NOT BE A **** PLEAEEEESE MAKE THIS MOVIE A SUCCESS

I love that Ron Perlman's entire purpose in the film is for a punchline.

Even the 3D was good and I don't ever think that.

There's some chaotic moments but I felt they were balanced out with clear shots that showcased the action pretty well.

Tell me I'm not the only one who noticed the guy from According to Jim in the beginning as the construction worker please.

Saw the film with a friend who was not interested at all in seeing it. Needless to say she loved every minute of it.

DAMN WAS IT GOOD!

Being that I grew up watching NGE and the Gundam series as well as being in LOVE with Kaiju movies when i was a kid this movie was basically a love letter to me.

If you walk into the movie with the mindset that this is a Live Action Anime then everything makes perfect sense!

I'm going with my usual group of friends this weekend and I know they are all excited to see it.

BTW whoever said the plot is too convoluted or complex or whatever other b/s...like, REALLY? I mean everything in the movie was pretty damn straightforward.

I'd change some things here and there but all in all i havent had this much fun since the The Avengers.

9/10

I was just never invested in any of the story or characters. The visuals were nice, but I came out of the cinema feeling flat. It just really did nothing for me.

I love Del Toro but I'm sorry to say that this movie didn't work for me. I thought the robot vs. monster fights were amazing but I was meh or disliked everything else.

The dialogue was atrocious, the characters were cartoons with virtually no depth what-so-ever. 95% of the time these didn't feel like real people at all. The humor fell completely flat and the movie looks nice but is way over designed. Also I hated the two scientist character's, they were horrible in every way.

The story isn't bad but the movie is shallow and never really explores anything. I might have been able to ignore certain things if the film and characters were charming but they largely aren't. I never felt apart of the film's world, I always felt detached from the proceedings. I think it's a huge disappointment and this kind of tripe is beneath such a great director. It's just a lame kids movie that verges on being boring when robots and monsters aren't on screen.

Rating 5.5 or 6/10

I sure enjoyed looking at a shirtless Hunnam eventhough he was dull as dishwater but I don't know if he was fully to blame for that one.

When will writers learn that characters and their development can be just as important as the shiny visuals and plot. :argh:

I must have seen a different movie because each of the characters had their own arc, you felt for their losses and could tell what their motives are.

was it campsy and slightly cheesy? maybe its because all i did was watch Anime in high school but dialogue/acting was EXACTLY what you'd see in that.

God yes, the cartoon scientists were annoying as hell.
They are the one thing I just absolutely hate about the film. I thought everyone acted like a cartoon though, everything in the movie is just highten to this ultra ridiculous level and I didn't like that. There was nothing grounding the film at all. I tried to get into it, I really tried.

not to bag on your opinion but...have you ever watched an Anime or follow a lot of it? its pretty much like that.

again people will like it for the action and may hate it for being camp but this movie definitely should be seen with those old Kaiju movies/Anime shows in mind.

Yes I watched Anime before and I like anime. I had those in mind when watching the film and I still didn't care for it.
