Pacific Rim - Part 6

It sucks that this movie is going to underperform even though it easily wouldn't be.

I'd say flop. I think that's a smaller version of bomb

This movie was a lot of fun.

But I think it actually might have the worst dialogue I've ever heard in a film other than The Room.

I'm still trying to get over the fact that a movie can make near or a little more than 400mil worldwide and be considered a disappointment or failure. They sure are spending a ****load on these movies now or days.

It's still running ahead of Cowboys and Aliens so it should hit 100mil unless it just starts having massive drops.

Apparently it was

“Sensei. Ai****emasu." which simply means, “Teacher. I love you."

Wow the hype's filters are weird.

That was really bugging me as well, thanks.

Too bad you couldn't tell what the hell the Category 5 looked like in the actual movie.

On my 2nd viewing which was 2D I got a much better look at it than I did in my 3d showing.

^The same. We definitely could have seen it more in action however.

Oh yeah, rather than the 'triple event' I just would have preferred Gypsy and Striker teaming up on the category 5 and still getting their asses kicked for the finale. Everything else could have played out the same once Striker lets the bomb go off.

Yeah, I could see that, or keep the triple event but give the category 5 (Scunner I think its name is) a bit more to do before the nuke goes off. If it had been holding Striker Eureak in its tentacles about to rip to pieces when the nuke went off only to still come shambling out to attack Gypsy Danger I think it would have sold it a bit more. As it is it still comes back from the nuke.

I just thought the triple event took away too much from the category 5 itself, Gypsy barely got a piece of it and I just would have preferred seeing it man handling both of the Jaegers at once to show how powerful it was. THEN to come back from the nuke as well would have been impressive, more so than it was in the movie even.

I just felt the category 5 got a lot of build-up but very little payoff. Though as I have said before, I think Stacker piloting SE was the reason it could stand toe to toe with the cat 5 for a bit.

That and the ticking clock of the running time.

Anyways, here's GDT, Metal Gear creator Hideo Kajima and the most adorable iteration of Knifehead ever. I must say, I expected to see a Gipsy Danger costume long before any of the Kaiju.

Kajima should call GDT to see if he would want to make a Metal Gear Solid film

Ha ha that costume is awesome, I wont be able to watch the start of the movie the same again though!

I found the film a little boring, but it didn't desserve to underperform, maybe Guillermo Del Toro should have done Hobbit before to get a little more recognition by the public

The Hobbit was turning into a time-suck.

Plus, there is no guarantee GDT would have been able to navigate all of the labor problems Peter Jackson had to cut through to finally get the Hobbit made, even with PJ producing. That whole thing was a mess.

I want a stuffed animal in the style of that costume.

in a way every movie deserves to make as much money as it makes if its promoted . they didnt promote enough. but i dont think PR could make a big profit.

^ In world where a re-telling of Pocahontas featuring blue, dragon riding cat people can be the highest grossing movie of all time, this movie could have done well.

Finally got around to snagging a shirt from that custom merch-maker from NECA. I hope it comes out well.

Box Office: 'Pacific Rim' Sequel Could Hinge on China

“Pacific Rim” hits China on Wednesday, a watershed territory for Guillermo del Toro’s monsters-and-giant robots epic.

Warner Bros. and Legendary Pictures’ 3D spectacular is at $84 million after three weeks domestically and may or may not clank its way to $100 million. But international was always seen as most important for the $180 million “Pacific Rim,” and China the most significant foreign market.

“Pacific Rim” has taken in $140 million abroad already. If it’s able to hit $50 million there, and build on that in Japan and Brazil, it could well hit $300 million in foreign grosses.

“That may or may not mean there’d be a sequel, but at least there’d be a discussion,” BoxOffice.com editor-in-chief Phil Contrino told TheWrap.

China has a history with colossal clanking contraptions: “Transformers 4: Dark of the Moon” is one of the all-time box office hits there, taking in $145 million in 2011.

“You’d think ‘Pacific Rim’ will be able to do a third of that,” Contrino said. “The concerns would be the lag time between the U.S. opening, which makes it vulnerable to piracy, and ‘Fast and Furious 6.’”

“Pacific Rim” has shown strength in the Asian markets in which it's played, already bagging $17 million from Korea and nearly $9 million from Taiwan, and is off to a fast star in Hong Kong.
