Pacific Rim - Part 6

Burn Gorman is restrained by his standards in TDKR, but he's a terrible ham in general.

Yeah, my friend is pretty picky about movies and TV shows, and she seemed to like him in Torchwood.

So, does anyone actually buy digital films? I know it's out Digitally right now. But isn't digital only 720p?

I thought the first 35-40 minutes were hamtacular. Seemed like everyone was trying to out-ham each other.

Oh, what the heck ever, Liam.

I should really call you Cap'n Corrector from now on. :o

At least you didn't call Crimson Typhoon Japanese too...or didn't get the chance to :o

lol! In all honesty, I did think Crimson Typhoon was from Japan and not China until you said that. Damn, you're good. Get out of my head!

I haven't checked this out yet. Will do soon.

If you buy it from sights like Vudu and Itunes, you can get it in 1080p, so basically blu ray quality which I think is really cool. Although this current trend of releasing films weeks before the physical release could end up cannibalizing the blu ray and dvd sales significantly down the line. I bought Oblivion and Ironman 3 digitally ( I really don't care to own those physically), but the films that I really like I will wait for the physical copy (Man of Steel, Pacific Rim, The Wolverine etc).

Just watched it on Bluray. :wow: Wow, that was an awesome film! It felt like Transformers but without the shaky cam stuff. Visually beautiful. It kinda reminded me of this generation's Power Rangers.

This was really fantastic and my first Del Toro film! :awesome:

Feel so happy today. This film made my day. :)

i need to own it on BR! i want to see it again!

So, I was thinking earlier. If they do a sequel, what ideas shown in the first movie would you want them to expand on?

Here are some I had:

-This one's kind of a no-brainer, but show how far Raleigh and Mako's relationship has progressed since the first movie, and how that affects their relationship as Jaeger pilots.

-How Mako is coping with the death of her surrogate father, as well as how Herc Hansen is coping with the death of his son. Maybe, due to Stacker's death, Herc takes his position, since Stacker was his commanding officer and Herc is technically next in command.

-The world's reaction to the Breach finally being closed at the end of the first movie. Maybe they develop a false sense of security before a new Breach opens up. Also, since the closing of the Breach, how has Hannibal Chau and his Kaiju Black market been holding up? Is he losing business due to the lack of new Kaiju materials to scavenge from? If that's the case, maybe he finds new work at the Shatterdome helping Newt and Herman? :woot:

-Newt and Herman's new-found respect for each other, and what that could potentially mean for their roles in the sequel (new set of pilots? They are most compatible with each other, after all). Also, explore the implications of both of them having drifted with a Kaiju brain (Newt mentioned something about a "hive-mind" mentality, so could they both potentially become reluctant moles for the Precursors?)

-In an interview a few months back, Del Toro hinted at the Precursors finding what was left of Gipsy Danger from the nuclear explosion from its core and using it to make Kaiju/Jaeger hybrids (ala the Eva Units from Evangelion). I suspect, considering Del Toro's penchant for horror elements in most of his films, the Hybrids will be the subject of a lot of nightmare fuel. :woot:

-Since there has been a period of time where there has been no need for the Jaeger program, since the Breach was closed, has the Jaeger program been rendered completely obsolete, or have they secretly been making preparations for a possible 2nd Breach? This leads me to...

-Advancement in Jaeger technology. Since the walls have proven ineffective, as shown in the last film, it's possible that more of the government budget is thrown into making more technological advancements towards the Jaegers. Also, because of Gipsy Danger's advantage against Leatherback's EMP ability and the closing of the Breach, due to it's nuclear core, it's possible that nuclear cores could be implemented into future Jaeger's as back-up in case of similar EMP-type incidents. And, considering Gipsy Danger's encounter with Otachi, maybe the Jaeger's could receive some (limited?) flight capabilities? (Also, Del Toro mentioned something about there being a Gipsy Danger 2.0 in the sequel).

Just brainstorming here. But I think there is potential to go in some new, interesting (and possibly darker) directions in a possible sequel.

Well yeah, Gypsy 2.0 is a must, and some new capabilities for it would be cool, like maybe flight, or another close combat weapon other than the swords.

After the category 5 being in the last movie, they really need to step up on what the Jaegers can do, although Gypsy didnt seem to have too much trouble against it either.

I want to see an actual Jaeger battle during daylight - the backdrop should include a light blue sky. It'd be cool to see a fight like that.

Also, do you people think that there could be rogue Jaegers too?

I just had this picture of a couple of pilots, after a long battle with a Kaiju, sitting on top of their Jaeger with their helmets off, just enjoying an afternoon lunch on a sunny day or trading stories about past battles. I would love to see more stuff like that.

Since the rift is closed they need to show what would CERTAINLY happen IRL, the nations using Jaeger tech for wars. Maybe in the beginning then the Kaiju reappear so we have to join forces again.

That would be so sweet! That'd be nice to watch.

Yeah, something like this would be great. It would certainly up the stakes too, as well as showcasing some fantastic Jaeger on Jaeger battles and Jaeger designs.

I guess it would be interesting to see Jaegers quell rebel uprisings and the like. I wonder if they might produce smaller scale versions of Jaegers, for war purposes, now that the enemy aren't giant Kaiju anymore, and pretty much all regular Jaegers have been destroyed.

It would also be great to see different Jaeger types. Like Jaegers build with aerial capabilities.

As much as I loved Pacific Rim, I think this is something the first film could have done a bit better. When you just saw them in pilot-mode all the time, it was kind of hard to relate to them whenever they were in danger. Showing that they're more than just pilots 24/7 by having more of those small, intimate moments goes a long way in making us care for them when they're in harms way, or when one of them dies.

The closest we got to that was when Raleigh and Mako were sitting on one of the railings inside the Jaeger factory, just talking to each other. I want to see more of those kinds of moments.

Wouldn't it be great to see a smaller Patrol Jaeger (PatJaeger, heh.) trying to catch a rogue rebel Jaeger, but it turns out that the rebel Jaeger has a bunch of other fellow partners in other Jaegers, and all of them corner the Patrol Jaeger? Then, out of the blue, a much, much larger Patrol Jaeger crashes through a building, and we see a wide shot of the larger Jaeger standing behind the smaller Patrol Jaeger as back up. :woot:

Or how about a smaller Jaeger-on-Jaeger aerial battle, ala Mobile Suit Gundam or Macross?

Also, it would be great to not only have Jaeger's not only having to fight against Kaiju, but also against themselves. It would give the film a much more interesting dynamic and make the film a little more complex.

Imagine the tagline being something along the lines of:

"First, we faced the monsters at our door.

Now....we face the monsters from within."
