The Amazing Spider-Man 2 Paul Giamatti IS Rhino - Part 2

The thing is, since Rhino has such a small role in this film, it's easy to work with such a large, lunky suit for a few minutes. But if Rhino becomes a bigger character, I think they would give him something that is more similar to this:

It seems people find something to complain about with Spider-Man movies. For every fan of the "power rangers" Goblin from SM1, there seem to be as many who hate it. The Lizard from TASM had a labcoat, but there was an outcry about "snout", though Webb explained he wanted a humanized facial structure that could deliver dialogue, and anyway the design was consistent with Ditko's Lizard. Venom's too small, Venom looked suitably terrifying... TASM2's Harry looks nothing like Goblin should, TASM2's Goblin is a great leap forward from the Power Rangers Goblin, etc etc etc. It goes with the territory to pick things apart in the Spider-Man film universe I guess.

I think had Webb gone with an organic Rhino, big bulky guy with horn coming out of his forehead, it would have been totally slandered by a lot of fans. The way they treated it in TASM2 makes all kinds of sense to me and looks fantastic. How they do him in TASM3 remains to be seen, but I imagine him staying robotic, probably all refined and sleek with red illuminated eyes or something, but not organic.

Good thing with "mecha" Rhino is, they can always make for future film better Rhino design if they want, for example in Sinister Six, better, lighter, upgraded version to resemble more to Ultimate version. We already got new Spidey suit, I am sure if Norman ever become Goblin he will have better suit then Harry, unless they go Ultimate route.

All this. I wouldn't mind if his design stayed the same though.

The current design is pretty neat but I highly doubt it will stay the same. I'm in agreement with those that want the mech to continue and have it more closely resemble the USM version.

I don't think they would show this rhino just to change it up next film, I suspect this Is the rhino we will see

Yeah,It would have been better to do a cross species Rhino, especially since they had just done a cross species villain in the first movie
Espicially since thats the premise of this whole series and what they have laid out.As I thought about it after the first one I find that makes sense since many of Spidermans villinas are animal or insect related.
Lizard
Grizzly
Jackel
Vermin
Torantula
Vulture
Octopuss
While all these villians are not Genectically created igt sure does make story telling alot easier more consistent and makes more sense.
I cant help but wonder of someones light bulb came on and realized this.

Still loving this.Plays into their story Arc.
Anyway I might not have even minded the Robotics if it were more of a suit and less of a Tank.
GUNS REALLY????

Then everyone would have been complaining about how every Spider-Man villain is cross-species and calling it uncreative/repetitive.

If they went organic looking he would have ended up looking like he should have been in Lord of The Rings. Thank God they didn't.

I don't mind Rhino having a mechanical suit, but....couldn't they have made the design a little less silly? I mean, Giamatti's head is practically at crotch level! And I don't know what it is about the machine gun turrets, but they just don't work. Rhino's a bruiser, he doesn't need guns. I'm okay with strength-enhancing armor or something like that, but he shouldn't be just a guy in a mini-tank.

Honestly, this is the only aspect of this movie I'm not looking forward to. But he's probably only in a few scenes, so I'm okay with it.

That pic isn't too bad. The cross-spieces look actually sort of resembles the original 616 man in a rubber suit-look. However, I wouldn't want to see Scorpion, Beetle, or Vulture as cross-species.

With Rhino though, my guess is they'll update his mech suit. I wouldn't mind something like this. See Giamatti's expressions more:

After finally getting some good looks at the mech-Rhino I'm glad they went that route as opposed to the cross-species.

The idea is they want rhino to be like a tank that will destroy anything in its way, I still think the rhino we got here will be the only rhino we get for the sinister 6 maybe it will have a slight redesign but for the most part they gave us this design for a reason

I assume if we was going to let a smaller scale design we would have got it in this film

Not necessarily. Especially with this series. They changed Spidey's look for TASM2 after all.

the rhino we got here is obviously what they sat down and decided apon, they didn't go for a smaller design like they could have because they obviously felt this was the design that they wanted and worked for what they were going for

They could give it abit of a redesign but when this is the design they have gone for... You kinda see where they are going with it, they wante something huge

but if they were gonna give us a small design... They should or would have done it for this film rather then beat around the bush

There is no beating around the bush. This is the introduction of Aleksei and his shoddy mobster tech. They set down and decided on the design of Spider-man, and that changed. Things can always change. I would have no qualms if this was the only Rhino design we get. I love it. But the fact is, they CAN change it. And considering Aleksei is going to get his ass handed to him twice, I'm sure he'll want some upgrades. Perhaps that's where Oscorp comes in and introduces him to the idea of the S6 in TASM3. Don't rule out the possibility when the direction here is obviously that Aleksei is building his grudge against Spider-man and his desire to kill him. If this Rhino suit fails as miserably as I think it will, then he's likely going to want something better.

The mech suit in TASM2 is something he just threw together. I would imagine that when he DOES start working for Oscorp (or the Sinister Six), they will provide him with an updated version of the rhino suit.

People are assuming that the current one gets destroyed by spiderman and get hey give him a new one, What if he just take the place as part of the sinister 6 in this current suit and isn't brought onboard and handed a suit?

Or is it going to be a case of ohh he likes rhinos quick create him a new one and bring him in muhahahaa

:/

I mean it could happen that he will get a new rhino suit but as of right now I wouldn't bank to many hopes up

I'm really crossing my fingers for much bigger roles for Paul and Chris in TASM3. :yay:

You're assuming they won't. Ruling out such a simple and entirely plausible direction on the grounds of it being laughable to you makes no sense. There are bird wings and octopus tentacles for crying out loud. Why would this be so difficult to do? Especially if Aleksei INSISTS on it being a Rhino. He's obviously quite attached to the moniker.

I think Rhino will have a decent sized role in TASM3. He'll never gain "main villain" status, but I think he'll be like the recurring villain of the series (ala Scarecrow in Nolan-verse).

Well, he doesn't have to be a main villain. But I'd like to see more than just a glorified cameo. I want him to get in on the story a little more. Not just be an introduction and a tool for following up on themes.

Without knowing the purpose of the 6 chambers obviously its hard to say whether they would bring him on and ask what suit he wants them to build

Maybe I am underestimating what they could do but at the same time its same to say people may be underestimating the design they chose, why they chose it and why they added rhino in this design to this film, Webb has already said about stuff in the comics don't always translate on screen
