The Amazing Spider-Man 2 Paul Giamatti IS Rhino - Part 2

I don't know how much that Hot Toys Rhino costs, but unless it breaks the bank, I'm getting one!

Giamatti cameo role is a nice set up for TASM 3 & Sinister Six. I like the Rhino suit that was pretty sweet.

Yeah I thought Rhino was more than fine! His part was written exactly as he should have been. A villain who Spidey can mess with jokes, and still opposes a physical threat. Didnt mind him at all.

Yeah, I don't know how you make a dumb guy in a mechanized rhino suit anything but over the top. This movie portrayed him the way I imagined he would be. Maybe a little too campy, but it fits the character IMO.

Jesus Christ, give me a break....these villain need to be written and taken seriously. A real villain is not going to be comic relief, a joke. They don't have millions of dollars of equipment & weapons to be the butt of some wise-cracking joke.

Villain are suppose to have real motivation, agendas, serious, with criminal & deadly intent. Why are many of you settling for this crap, making immature excuses, to justify your hope in the film success. I felt like this was made for kid 16 and younger...like a live action 90's cartoon. The best thing Raimi did was the fight scenes, the best thing Webb did was the Peter/Gwen dynamic....other than that, everything else, is garbage as far as I'm concern.

Even Smallville is written more mature than this crap, and that's saying a-whole-lot.

Well said.

Didn't like the cute confrontation between Rhino and the kid either.

When Spidey exposed his boxer shorts I knew what kind of villain we were dealing with.

Agree wholeheartedly, but oh boy...you're gonna get crucified by them diehards for that. Wait for it, it's coming. Like MoS before it, this movie is apparently above criticism in the eyes of some.

Yeah they were not kidding when they said Paul was a complete slice of ham in this movie. It worked, but I'm glad it was in small doses. I hope they tone it down for TASM3.

The suit was pretty cool though.

Eh, I wasn't too bothered by it. I would have liked the camp toned down a touch, but since he was barely in the film, it didn't grate on my nerves too badly. I'm more worried about how such a ridiculous character will feel in future installments, since we're basically guaranteed to be seeing more of him in the future.

You're right. This guy in the huge walking tank should have bodies, dead or near dead strewn all around him including cops as he charges away from the vault with tons of valuables. I really don't know what would be worth it to steal. That would be better. He then is confronted by Spider-Man where the collateral damage is just as devastating. Granted there would have probably been less bodies if Spider-Man didn't have all those bullets and missiles he dodged hitting occupied buildings. Kids, old folk, etc all being killed, maimed, injured.

Its a giant mechanical Rhino.

This is a cartoon. It doesn't pretend to be anything else.

More real depictions of villains don't fit in these films.

It pissed me off Rhino is standing around shooting GUNS AND MISSILES and not hitting stuff with his head. They totally screwed the character. He was a big, stupid joke.

Idiot Transformer.

Yeah, I thought the suit looks cool. My little brother said he thought Rhino was his favorite character because he looks cool. And no ragging on my little brother! :yay:

I didn't mind him too much. These movies have heart and drama, but they also have a fun side to them. You have to have a villain Spider-Man can have fun with. If they didn't, people would keep making comments about Peter not being witty and comical enough in the suit.

if anything i was disappointed he wasn't in the film more, i knew he'd only be in the movie for roughly 4mins, but pretty much every shot of him was in the trailers

Valid point

Some villains are just career criminals. Did you trash The Dark Knight because it didn't delve into the past and motivations for Gambol or the Chechyn.

Rhino was a cameo villain to establish the escalation of villains funded by Oscorp and to show that Spidey is back in action after his loss.

Not sure if these are official concept art of just fan art but...

They were made up mob characters, not notable Batman villains. The motivation of the mob was well established since Batman Begins. They wanted to run the city through crime and corruption. Buying the Cops, Judges etc and taking out anyone who stood in the way of that like Batman and Dent.

Rhino was used a cartoonish device to show the set up of the Sinister Six, and draw Spidey back out of his rut. Considering he's a notable comic book villain, one from the classic Stan Lee days, and this was his debut as a movie character, he deserved a lot better treatment than that.

Exactly. None of what Cyclops is suggesting excuses the poor execution in any way whatsoever.

People often complain about villains being sympathetic instead of just villainous. Rhino was that.

What in your fine fellows opinion should they have done with his motivation and backstory?

In my opinion some characters work best as jobbers. They added a sympathetic storyline to Sandman with his sick daughter and it just fell flat.

Rhino is a great thug, he doesn't need to be complicated, again just my opinion.

The guy was a clownish, unintelligible stereotype. I can't imagine how those three things could ever combine to be considered a good thing in 2014.

You know, I'm getting a little tired of people using this whole "If you're so smart why don't you make the damn movie" shtick as an argumentation tactic. Look, you don't have be a chef to taste the food, so my honest answer to that question is that I bloody well don't know. If I was creative enough to figure these types of things out, I'd probably have a job writing screenplays. All I can tell you is that I loathed every bit of what I saw of him in this movie, and that they need to go back to the drawing board. I can't see something like this going over well in a Sinister Six movie where these villains will be hunting down and tormenting Spider-Man for 2+ hours. Not with idiots like this and Electro. The Little Rascals would fare better.

Sandman didn't fail because his story was sympathetic per se, it was because that particular implementation of it was poorly done. It's not that simple.
