Rockstar Red Dead Redemption

Was Red Dead Redemption a big enough hit to spawn a sequel?

Wouldn't Rockstar prefer to do GTA6 and sell 40 million copies?

I hope they don't do anything with Marston, to be honest. Tell another story.

Marston's son annoyed me or well as a kid,Playing as a grown up kid after the story was interesting but felt meh,After 1912 doesn't seem that cool and so I'd love a prequel with a younger Marston as a criminal with shads of good and pre-family man

RDR did between 12-14 million which is pretty damn good. Its probably the best selling non GTA game to carry the Rockstar logo this past gen

Take Two cant only rely on GTA. That's why in the 5 year gap between IV and V, we got LA Noire, RDR, Max Payne. Rockstar is just a name. 8 different studios have that name and they all work on different projects. Rockstar North makes GTA. Rockstar San Diego did RDR. Take Two having one Rockstar studio make RDR doesn't prevent them from having another make GTA at the same time.

Well that clarifies things.

I'd be more than happy with both another GTA and RDR in the near future.

i'd be cool with a red dead set during or right after the Civil War. Bloody Kansas even.

It couldn't really take place after the original game. The original actually takes place in the early 1900's, 1911 I believe, right on the precipice of the old west evaporating. It's a major theme in the game though you could miss the date fairly easily. The passing away of the wild west and men like Marston with it, who even contributes to it with his alliance with the Pinkerton agents.

With GTA you can have vastly different games simply by changing the decade or location.

How do you get that same variety with a RDR sequel?

To where and when?

The old west is kind of the same time and place, visually and thematically.

To an extent, yeah. And RDR painted a big enough canvas to cover most of the tropes of the genre --- desert Southwest, Great Plains, the Rockies, Mexico, Texas, even New Orleans (all fictionalized for the Rockstar universe, of course).

But moving the story back a few decades to the Civil War/ Reconstruction era, say 1863 through the 1890s, does open up some new opportunities. For one thing, they could bring in a greater focus on the Native American story. RDR just briefly touched on that with a handful of pseudo-Apaches in the story, but it'd be nice to see whole horse nations of Sioux out there on the Plains going to war against a fictionalized Custer, do the whole Dances With Wolves thing maybe. Plus, going back to Marston and Dutch's days as full-blown outlaws instead of Pinkerton slaves could give it more of a GTA feel, with bank robberies, train heists and stagecoach holdups becoming a major part of the game.

I don't see anything wrong with using the same time period and setting. A sequence could just carry the same gameplay elements and core mechanics while being a standalone tale telling an alternate story from that time piece. Marston and his saga really don't even need to factor in.

Liberty City and Los Santos from GTA IV and V look absolutely nothing like they were mapped out to be in 3 and SA. I don't see why Rockstar can't re-envision the Wild West for the new consoles so that we can get a new game that isn't a rehash of its predecessor

Finally! Wouldn't mind a sequel to Bully either but one thing at a time.

Red Dead was one of my favorite games. Hard to not get my hopes up for another one!

Red Dead Revolution?
Red Dead Revenge?
Red Dead Red Rover?

Red Dead Revenge or Revolution would be pretty cool titles. Seeing as this game is made by Rockstar, I'm assuming that Fall 2015 release date actually means Spring 2017.

My only wish is that they add more stuff to do after the story is complete.

I think it would be cool if they started the game in the Civil War, and then do most of the story after a time skip, kind of like GTA V.

So, jump from the 1860's to the 1870's, or 1880's.

I'm also hoping for multiple protagonists a la GTA V.

Not that I want this to turn into Red Dead GTA V, but that game did have some good ideas, which could be put to good use here.
