This doesn't really have anything to do with Revolver though. It has more to do with the conintuation of Redemption in one way or another be it prequel or sequel. So the title having the 2 in it makes sense. It's really not a big deal. It's a title.

You seem hungup for some reason on Revolver and it's involvement with RDR and RDR2. And it really has no involvement with either.

It's a Red Dead game so it was a sequel. It made sense to name the sequel Red Dead something. They would have named it something else if it wasn't. This si also stupid because Revolver was just released on PS4 so it doesn't look like Rockstar is trying to forget it.

Exactly. We dont know details but this could very well be about Marston and his gang or take place in that same era with direct ties to stuff mentioned in Redemption. In that case, keeping the Redemption makes sense. Revolver is so far removed that i dont know why anyone would expect this to be called Red Dead Revolver 2

Sequel doesn't need to be connected by the story. The same kind of setting and name is enough. Also:

The protagonists from Revolver (Red, Annie Stoakes, Jack Swift) would sometimes be mentioned during campfire stories by other NPCs when John would stay at a campfire in the world. Neat Easter Egg but that was it.

Oh well. It is what it is and Im sure Rockstar's marketing team know what they are doing. Red Dead Redemption 2 is the term thats been highly searched, talked about, tweeted, etc... for the past year. It obviously means something and if this game does tie directly into the original's universe than it'll make even more sense

It'll likely be a legacy sequel as much as GTA IV was a sequel to GTA III.

So new story and most likely brand new characters.

Finally an official reveal! What I'm most excited about is the online. If Rockstar can hammer out the kinks in GTA Online and bring the best that game mode has to offer to Red Dead I'm going to putting in so much time on that.

Ultimately though it doesn't matter much. It's not like it's a god awful title. It's a typical follow up/sequel title. Could they have given it a different name? Sure. But I don't have time to even kind of care about a title that isn't that bad. We are getting the game, I much more care about the gameplay the story and all of that. Which I have no doubt Rockstar will deliver on. So the anticipation and excitement grows. t: I can't get hung up on an average title.

No it doesn't matter, of course. And they are doing this brand awareness. But I do care that they broke with the tradition Redemption set by following Revolver. It isn't the end of the world, and it is far from a big deal, but I do care.
