Rockstar Red Dead Redemption

I went all the way back to the snow mountains and caught the white arabian horse.

I just finished the main part of the game. I still have the epilogue to go through so I'm not completely done yet, but
Arthur's ending hurt even more than John's did in the first RDR even though we knew it was coming as soon as he got the tuberculosis diagnosis. There are very few other video game playable characters that I really connected to besides Arthur. Besides John Marston, the only others that immediately come to mind for me are Joel and Ellie from The Last of Us and Lee and Clementine from Telltale's The Walking Dead. Maybe it's because of how long and expansive this game is but I really grew to care a lot for Arthur. That being said though, I am happy to take control of John during the last leg of the game, for old time's sake.

There is a time traveler in Red Dead Redemption 2.

There is a good video detailing the glaring evidence, but I cant link to it because the person says the dreaded S word. :whatever: The video is titled:

"The Time Travel Easter Egg In Red Dead Redemption 2! (RDR2 Mystery)" and the youtuber is named "WhizL"

I’m probably going to beat it tonight since I only have a few missions left in the story but without spoiling anything, this game is INSANELY long, definitely the longest game I’ve played by far, and that’s just main story missions alone. I’ve done a fair share of the stranger and side missions as well. They certainly had enough material here to cover two games but it’s impressive that they were able to fit everything into one.

Lol, you think RDR 2 is an "insanely" long game? I take it you have never played a real PC RPG before? Eg. Baldur's Gate series, The Elder Scrolls series, The Witcher 3, etc. Those games are all 100-200+ hours easily.

Nope. RPGs for the most part aren’t my cup of tea, but I did play a bit of Skyrim. I’m just speaking from personal experience with open world games.

But it’s not just in terms of the amount of missions in RDR 2. I’m also talking about the five minute cutscene to set up the mission, followed by a ten minute ride to get to the destination before the mission actually begins, which happens quite frequently in RDR 2. That’s why it feels so long to me, at least. But it’s forgiven because it’s such a great game.

I'm behind all of you, just bought it a few days ago. I'm taking my time, I love the immersion. I'll probably try fully customizing my horse, guns, ect, long before I finish the game. Plus the scenery is beautiful, so I find myself just roaming around for kicks.

Last thing I did was kill my first legendary animal (didn't think it needed a spoiler, as it's just hunting). Problem is, on the way back to camp I was ambushed by 6 people, and killed. It said I abandoned the skin. I immediately read up, and apparently that happened to a lot of people, and I can get it back from a trader, or fence later in the game.

It was funny though. I was cocky after the kill, then bam. These guys rush me halfway back.

how longer is it compare to Gta V?

Well, finished the main story and epilogues... I think I'm taking a break... no other game series has made so teary-eyed.

Just like Red Dead Redemption... I get more caught up investigating the world than actually playing the game. Actually, I'll run off doing side missions, bounties, hunting, etc., over the main game. I actually had most of the legendary hunting encounters done way before completing the game because of it. I basically have achievement hunting and 100% completion left to do.

And after breaking my heart at the end of the game/main story, I just bought the Arabian the second time.

My only gripe, same as the first game, some wonky horse riding mechanics, here and there, and detection/avoiding certain things when riding around.

Now, I just need Revolver to get the Redemption treatment and a sequel continuing RDR1, and I'm good.

I'm not sure a sequel to the previous game would work well, it would almost have to be part of a different franchise, since the whole point was the old west had pretty much ended by the end of Redemption 1. I think it'd be cool to get a sequel set in the late 1880's that for the most part is a separate story but contains some narrative elements and characters that provide some connective tissue to Revolver and the two Redemption games. At the very least I think any future Red Dead games should only go further back in time.

Speaking of their A game, the soundtrack might just be the best Rockstar has ever had, at the least it's the best since the last Red Dead game.

From what I'm seeing, crime really doesn't pay after all, lol. Usually I like playing a good guy route first, and play a more evil character in a later play through. But I was curious about robbing a train. I left with about $100 total, but got a $300 bounty.

I probably missed something, but it seems like the effort is more towards role playing than monetary. Though I'm only on chapter 3, so I could have the wrong impression.

Same here.

I made the mistake of trying to hunt the Legendary Bull Gator at close range and got absolutely destroyed. Going back with a sniper rifle next time.

I didn't understand the legendary fish part at first. I knew I had a quest to fish for exceptionally big fish, but I thought that was separate. I thought it was like any other legendary animal.

I went to the spot on my map showing a fish on a lake, and spent over half an hour fishing for the largest fish I could find. Using my life detecting vision. I finally looked it up, and felt like an idiot afterwards, lol.

So... done with the Legendary Animals... minus one that is the last step in the Master Hunter challenge.

Going back and forth between Master Hunter challenges and catcing the Legendary Fish. About halfway through the fish list.

Fishing took a little while for me to get the hang of... what duels were in Red Dead, fishing will be in Red Dead 2... I take a break from the game and start playing again, and totally blank on the mechanic.

You know, I'm just traveling between towns, in forest areas, or what have you and I pass by specific areas, animals everywhere... when I get to a specific challenge... skin three perfect rabbit hides... skin three bears... kill five cougars with a bow/arrow and skin five cougars... said animals nowhere to be found. For example, I spent I don't know how long looking for bears after finding one. I take a break traveling the map, doing stranger missions, and bounties, and I what do I happen upon but a group of three bears. Side note, at least it looks like you can swap arrows for the cougars. I'll be sticking with dynamite arrows. I'm brave, but not brave to use the standard arrows.

I finally got around to the part where this song comes up.

Just got to Saint Denis. Such a stark contrast to the towns you've been visiting up until this point, and I love it.

Something hilarious happened prior to that though. I'm guessing another realistic detail they put in was bucks fighting for dominance. I came across one buck ramming his antlers into three decomposing buck carcasses on the ground. Blood flying around, already dead. He just kept attacking them.

You can quite easily put 150 hours into this before even reaching chapter 6. There is a lot of stuff to do besides the main story.

Yeah it's as long as a GTA game which is what I was expecting.

Persona 5 was another long console game as well. I was 130 hours in before I hit the last stretch of the story. That's without maxing everything, just the main story. Let alone counting a new game + run.

Don't get me wrong, I've played long PC titles too. Just that consoles have had long playtime games for awhile as well.

So was trying to do the weapons expert challenge where you have to kill 3 birds of prey with a tomahawk. I was stalking along the river in Roanoke Ridge. The level of detail in this game is just unreal. It has a fully fledged ecosystem. There was Hawks diving down to catch fish out of the water. I spotted a Cougar taking down a deer off in the distance. Foxes were sneaking down to the river to get some water.
