Well its barely been marketed here in Australia, so you never know, anyway I think a $45 million opening weekend would be a pretty good start.

It's looking more of a $25 - 32 million 5 day total if Wednesday's numbers tell us anything.

I really hope it has a decent box office run. I really liked the movie. A solid 8 out of 10 for me. A sequel is needed... with a juicy villain and more RoboCop taking down crime.

if they do make sequels...they need to either bring in a new clarence boddicker...or some super-badass mech for robocop to contend with.

A sequel has such high potential. I would LOVE to see a Clarence Boddicker type character in a RoboCop 2. I would really like to see a nasty villain go crazy trying to kill Kinnaman's RoboCop in big action scenes. The Vallon character was very much a Boddicker type character in Joshua Zetumer's first draft, and there was an action sequence in Zetumer's first draft that I think should be reworked into a possible sequel that involves a few villains boarding into a public bus, shooting the driver, and holding up the dead body in front of a street security camera so RoboCop sees a crime in progress. RoboCop chases down the bus and the main villain holds a young child hostage. I'd love to see something like that in a sequel.

Plus, an even slimier (Michael Keaton was awesome!) CEO type character, and more Murphy and Lewis interaction too. A summer release would help as well.

they have been marketing the hell out of this, so i bet a substantial amount of the budget went to that. i think i heard around ballpark of $150 mil total.

$100- $120 mil for production

$35 - 55 mil for marketing and advertising

No idea about distribution cost. Would say about $10 mil alone for IMAX prints

Best case scenario $155 mil total cost, which would mean it needs around $310 mil WW to break even.

Don't see that happening when it's competing with the lego movie.
Everyone loves that lego stuff.

Justifiably so. It's sensational. I don't think anyone expected it to be this well received

Keaton is awesome. There's really no-one else like him.

He played the part well. A corporate guy adapting to changing situations.

Ah, I read an article on the web-site that shall not be named saying $45 million but the weather may effect that.

I am hoping for a sequel as well, with the 1st movie out of the way I think they could really cut loose in a sequel. They wouldnt have to do a re-make of Robocop 2, they could do their own thing.

What are the chances of a new director stepping in though?

Lego Movie will probably win the Presidents Day weekend.

Please do well at the box office over the weekend. I need a sequel. You're right Dyson, there is so much potential for a sequel.

I doubt this will be number 1 at the box office this weekend. The Lego Movie, About Last Night, are its biggest competitors. Kids movies are always hard to beat especially a Lego movie ha. Then you have About last night which has been getting good reviews and is starring Kevin Hart who is a box office draw now. Not to mention its Valentines day weekend so its a shoe in to do well. I am still excited to see Robocop this weekend but if I had to make a box office prediction, I would say Lego Movie is still number 1, About Last Night is number 2, Robocop number 3.

I dont know, Padilha seems happier now than he was at the start of production, maybe he has been promised more freedom on a potential sequel.

If not, I am sure plenty of directors would love to tackle a Robocop movie, I would prefer Padilha to come back personally.

What if a really popular director like Chris Nolan or some really good action director (not Micheal Bay) take on Robocop.

Yeah, this may hit 4th place. Valentine's weekend, unless your girl is a massive nerd like you, y'all will be seeing something sappy or funny.

I would love to see Padilha return to direct a possible RoboCop 2, but if he doesn't, I hope he'll at least contribute to the screen story and co-produced. Maybe even have a say in who should direct.

On another note, I'd like to see the producers try to get Edward Neumeier and Michael Miner to contribute to a sequel story. Both Neumeier and Miner have both approved how Padilha rebooted this character. Miner even said he would love to return to writing a RoboCop movie again. If you had Padilha, Neumeier and Miner create a story together for RoboCop 2, I think we could have a truly epic RoboCop sequel.

Never trust promo circuit stuff. They always sound happy doing that stuff. Truth comes out after about a year when their contract expires.

But following this train of thought, if this does get a sequel, what directors would be a good replacement to maintain the same PG13 superhero-y style tone?

I still don't get the whole drone surveillance shtick they were going for. I didn't make any sense to me in the context they presented it

I was disappointed with the "dead or alive, you're coming with me" line in the actual movie. It was soooo badass in the trailer and nothing like that in the movie.

I enjoyed it. Not perfect, but I enjoyed it.

I think the final Novak stuff was a little too much, and I think the time could've been spent better on other things. Some extra scenes to help flesh out what was going on with Murphy may have been helpful. The progression and the path didn't make complete sense.

And I'm not entirely sold on the need for a sequel. Murphy is back, I'm not sure were you take his story.

Padhilla needs to come back, the action was so fantastic in this

Watching this now and this opening scene is so rich with social commentary I love it .

Edit: I just came back from my first viewing I say first cause I have to see this in IMAX or something. The movie was great I really liked I'd give it an easy 8/10. I'd really like a sequel to find out what will become of Alex and others. The whole cast was really good but Sam Jackson was hilarious. I was half ass expecting by the end they would reveal a OCP hand up his ass.
