RoboCop Reboot - Part 6

If you want to be optimisitic, one of the best things about this film is it leaves you wanting to see a sequel, as there's a lot of potential in the material for it, [blackout] especially after Murphy gets back his silver robosuit and it is received OCP is the parent company of Omnicorp [/blackout]. I liked that story-wise it is was not a re-tread of the original and they took the concept into an interesting and more relevant direction, it's just not the home-run that I was hoping for. That said, I'd love to see the cast return if a sequel is possible.

I think that this film - which was very good -was really just the diving board for what could be a really fantastic RoboCop film. I would love to see Kinnaman, Oldman, Cornish and Williams return and Jose Padilha to direct, but he didn't want to direct, it would be great if he could at least co-produce and develop the story. Speaking of story, I'd love it if Edward Neumeier and Michael Miner were brought on board to contribute. Plus, I think a bigger, nasty villain is needed.

Also, have RoboCop 2 be a summer release.

I LOVED that [BLACKOUT]Omnicorp ended up being a subsidiary of OCP[/BLACKOUT]. Nice set up for a sequel.

I haven't seen the movie yet -probably this week- but I just noticed the 'human' hand they left in this version, is the same hand that gets blown up in the original. Don't know if has anything to do with what happens in the movie, but I thought it was an interesting touch.

Good review, and agree with most of your points.
Man, I also had some crappy audience members while watching today. Some dude was pretending to snore, and his friends were joking around and snickering during parts of the movie. I don't get that, people come to a theater to enjoy a movie, if someone is not liking it, then they can leave. Don't be a dumbass and try to act all smart by ruining the experience for other people.

Thanks and I agree with a lot of your points on the reboot as well. We seem to be pretty much on the same page with this movie. And I'm also interested in seeing a sequel as well.

It looks like this week's box office for the reboot is another example of "life imitating art". Foreign countries seem to support this reboot unlike here in the states. Just like in the film itself foreign countries allow machines to patrol their war zones but America is against using them for patrolling and protection.

It now has to follow in the steps of Hansel & Gretel: Witch Hunters, A Good Day To Die Hard and Oblivion and make $170M - $240M overeas plus $65-$70M from the North American market for any chance of a sequel. TV rights, Bluray and TV rentals can pad the revenues to tip it breakeven or to a profit. RoboCop has to bring in another $180 million worldwide for any chance. So it can be done. Sony/MGM will probably have a sequel in 2017, let the audience grow via cable TV and Netflix and try a summer release for then.

It's not a profit if it isn't getting back domestic BO so no sequel.

International BO, home video makes up the lost but it's not a true indicator to go ahead with another movie.

They all opened huuuge over Valentine's Day though. They just dropped like rocks over their second weekends. There's no reason RoboCop shouldn't have opened over 30 M.

Agreed, I think with a sequel they could really unleash and give us more of the good stuff. Would hope Padilha would return if we get one. Hopefully the movie has good WOM and the box office starts to improve.

One of the most haunting movie scenes of recent memory, a few scenes from the movie have stayed with me since watching it, but that one most of all.

RoboCop (2014)


Good but not great remake of the satirical and great 1987 film.For the most part the film was an uneven mixed bag.
The film focuses on the different phases critically injured Policeman Alex Murphy (Joel Kinnaman)goes through,holding
on to his human side,then the mechanical by the book,efficient drone,then back to holding on to his human side,as the
OmniCorp corporation sees him as the path to billions if he and more Robocops,and robots are put on the streets to fight crime.

Director Jose' Padiha and writer Joshua Zetumer amp up the Murphy family part of the story to get the audience to care
about and connect with the characters,but this made the film feel more drawn out,and slows down the pacing.
The cast does a fine job and the action and SFX are sleak,and it was great to see the bad guys get what they deserved,but this 2014 version of Robocop is a good rental on a slow Saturday night.

if anything, the remake will be remembered mainly for that scene. i'm still thinking about it and how haunting it is. the acting from kinnaman and oldman there really sells it. the cast and their acting is really the best special effect of the movie.

Imagine a scene in a possible RoboCop 2 where Murphy's wife and son are forced to look at him without the suit on and he can't do anything about it.... The raw power and emotion in that single idea makes me want a confirmed sequel now.

Bring on RoboCop 2!

Watched the movie....loved it....both suits and that bike...rocked!

now moving forward, what is needed to bridge allot of the ideas concepts and direction with the story is number 2...and if done right, the first movie will take on a whole new meaning and appreciation..

The focus should be on what and where this new direction is heading for the character....and again, if done right, the potential is huge!

I love the original Robocop, I have been collecting statues, figures and art for years....big fan....and in saying that I can just the same see issues in that story of the original movie as much as I can see issues in the new one....

Regardless I'm all open, positive and excited for a new version of this character and the direction it can go....thx

I saw this over the weekend and like it. Naturally its not as good as the 1987 original but its a solid reboot to the franchise. My only complains were that I felt the PG-13 kinda ruined the action a bit, the villain was WEAK and no where near as good as Clarence Boddicker, SLJ started to become annoying after a while, could have used a bit more action, also the ending was just kinda of abrupt. But still I enjoyed what we have here 7.5/10.
