RoboCop Reboot - Part 7

right, isn't sony distributing this for international market as well?
so sony makes a profit from the worldwide box office gross, but the mgm studios would be the one who foots the bill in the actual making of the movie.

so that might mean mgm doesn't make as much of a cut from the profits to justify a sequel down the line.

Like what I said, we'll see. Nobody knows for sure but Sony themselves. They were expecting LEGO MOVIE type of hype and profits but didn't get that in the US.

They'll probably rethink the possibilities when the film hits the home market.

I'm not saying this because I dislike the film. I don't. But let's be realistic here. I think I've been around the block so many times that I see certain patterns in how studios think. Sometimes they do surprise me that's rare.

Saw this again today, really enjoyed it 2nd time, rating goes up to 8/10 now. Even though its short, I LOVE the ED-209 fight, it was awesome, the opening is still amazing as well.

Really hope we get a sequel.

I really really do hope a sequel gets greenlit, it would be awesome to see a brand new trilogy, so many awesome possibilities.

Precisely. Even for those that didn't completely embrace the movie there's a lot of room for improvement should a sequel see fruition. Out of 74 ratings by members of this board 85% rated the reboot 7/10 or higher. That's pretty damn respectable from the hardcore. I hope I get to see the further adventures of Det. Alex Murphy.

I know which is so ironic considering most of the board members we're not optimistic or flat our bashing it from the trailers, set pics and tv spots I kind of laughed to myself about how the tables had turned.

i have yet to re-watch this again, but after seeing it the first time, i felt it was one of those movies where i might like it more if i saw it a 2nd time.
because so much story and themes get thrown at you, it takes a couple viewings to absorb them all and let it grow on you.

I read somewhere I think it was deadline that this movie has already made 60mlion in China. That doesn't seem right to me, anyway it opens in Japan soon. That should help boost the gross of this film when it does , Japan and robots seem to go hand in hand.

 good stuff.

Yeah the hardcore fans have enjoyed it for the most part, I would consider myself in that bracket, the original is one of my favourite movies ever, and I wasnt thrilled at the concept of this re-make, but I just hoped it would be good and to me it was.

Yeah, I noticed more things 2nd time around, like Rorschach saying "I wouldn t buy that for a dollar" and also some story beats. I think Lewis' role, while short, was very important, especially at the end when he puts himself between the ED-209's and Alex. I definitely appreciated that character more on 2nd viewing.

I also liked Dennetts role even more 2nd time around, I hope Oldman comes back if a sequel happens, as you can him always not liking what Omnicorp or himself are doing, yet he does for the promise of more funding until he cant take it anymore.

Also the end when Sellars supposedly 'turn's' evil. I know feel there was no way Murphy's family were in danger from him, he was on a power trip showing Alex he could do what he wanted and that he owned Alex, of course that blows up in his face.

But yeah, I think I will re-watching this a few times on BD when it comes out.

I finally got to see this today and I thought it was very well done! Great casting all around, good action scenes, especially RoboCop's final test before being transferred to Detroit and the finale. I thought the story was very well written, and the progression Murphy goes through; as they limit more and more of his brain function so his programming can be more efficient. That made for some good emotional character moments, and I felt invested in the subtle plot thread of Murphy's struggle to try and reclaim some of himself. Looking forward to a sequel, glad to see that it's in the cards. Hopefully they will take the franchise into original, uncharted terrain and not adapt the storylines from the previous series.

^I think that is what is so exciting about the prospect of a sequel to this, they can go their own direction while choosing to use some things from the past movies and go their own way with them or just ignoring them completely and going forward with their own ideas.

The 1st movie explored some interesting themes and I would like them to delve into that a bit more, and of course OCP were introduced right at the end.

Ah in todays day of political correctness I doubt that would ever happen, oh the good old early 90's, how grande they were.

i don't think we really need a character like that.
the potty-mouth gangster kid was just there for shock value.

they wanted a character to be more outrageous than clarence boddicker haha.

yea that's right, but over the top characters like that probably won't belong in the new robocop sequels if any are made.
the tone padhila set is very different. more grounded, less "comic-booky."

Haven't seen it, but I have a question for those who did: do they make fun of the original film in any way, shape, or form?

I want the kid mob boss/hitman in the sequel.

Yeah he was great in Robocop 2, I still think that was a decent sequel.

But would love to see what they would with that movies storyline for a modern sequel. Would love to see Robocop 2 as a character with todays effects as well.

He made me hate the entire movie. In no world, no matter how crazy, would anybody follow orders from that little ****.

Think it was funny that his death was supposed to make us feel sympathy for him but it made me laugh hysterically

When I saw that movie for the first time I was about that kids age or around it and he reminded me so much of this kid at school that was mean to everyone, which made me hate the character even more, if hating the character is what they wanted they did a good job.

Finally got around to seeing this tonight. Really enjoyed it. Not perfect, but it had a lot going for it I felt the original lacked, and missed a few things the original nailed beautifully. Unfortunately, the original is such a product of the 80s that I don't think the same overt commentaries on violence would have worked in this one anyway.

I loved all the actors in their roles, especially the trio of Kinnaman, Oldman, and Keaton. They really did their parts justice, Kinnaman especially. The visuals were perfect. The narrative felt a bit unfocused, and I can't quite put my finger on what's bugging me about it. Though, it must not be a big deal because all I want to do is watch it right away again.

Overall, 8/10 and hoping for that sequel!
