I like the military variation on the silver suit. Subtle differences.

Agreed, its a reason why so many have been pleasantly surprised with this movie IMO? They ran with their own ideas, while paying homage to the original in parts, and I am so glad they did.

Have you seen it Nell? Its actually quite good, better than the likes of Total Recall and Carrie easily.

I have not seen it, I am boycotting it off of principle. I have no use for reboots. I have no reason to see a "new take" on a story that was done correctly the first time. If I want to watch RoboCop, I will watch RoboCop and not some ripoff retake.

Also, the trailers for it look awful. It does not even look like a good movie on it's own merits.

I'm sure you'll watch a potential X-men remake years from now. :cwink:

hey your face does not even look like a good movie...on it's own merits!

Figs, if you've ever seen even one post of mine in the X-Men forums, then you should know 3 things:

1. X-Men: The Last Stand and X-Men Origins: Wolverine are both good movies and I love both of them.

2. I don't want to see the X-Men flying around in space.

3. I don't want an X-Men reboot, and feel that once the current continuity comes to an end that the X-Men movies should be put to rest for good.

Hahaha! Nell, Nell, I'm just busting your balls a bit. I know your stance on the X-men franchise. Just joking around. :cwink::woot:

I find that statement incredibly inaccurate.
should they be forced to watch the movie? are they stupid for not watching this movie in the theater? maybe they think this is a bluray movie for the LCD TV.

the studio didnt belive in the august realese date. if someone thinks that they moved the date to spend more money on the effect ...........WRONG

i liked the few nods to the original, they didn't try to beat people over the head with too many throwbacks, that would've been too obvious or awkward.
i really liked it when murphy said "dead or alive, you're coming with me!" in this. because it was in a totally different context and meaning from the original, and that was witty.

Yeah same here, it payed homage, but didnt let that get in the way of them telling their own story, they acknowledged rather than over-praised, and it worked well.

I am not a huge fan of re-makes, and the original is in my top 5 movies ever, yet the re-boot/make was a really good movie on its own terms and deserves to be making more money than it has done so far.

It goes in a different direction than the original, and so it is a good movie on its own merits.

Your boycott is insane, reboots or remakes whatever you want to call it is the story telling of Mythology from one generation to the next. Before there was a written language this was how stories were told. One person told a story which was basically the same but the story teller added something to keep it fresh. Brian de palma's Scareface is a remake of a 1934 film. Every Dracula, Frankenstein, wolfman movie could be considered reboots. I'm just saying there is a reason why their is less creativity in cinema. Everything has been done nothing is new.

Yeah I have to fully agree with that as well Paradox, good post.

The Fly - Is a remake

The Thing - Is a remake

T2 - Is a sequel

Empire - Is a sequel

TDK - Is a sequel

Batman Begins - Is a reboot

There isn't a problem with reboot, remakes and sequels if the QUALITY is good.

this.

having remakes and reboots is fine. just look at the this latest trend of bible movies coming out. those stories have been retold or adapted for generations since...jesus (literally) :oldrazz:.

what matters is after having watched the robocop remake, if you think the quality is good or bad? and that's subjective, everyone's opinion will be different.

So I watched again and I really enjoyed it (again). Just two fast commentaries:

1) Just like pretty much everything, they handled ED-209 differently this film, it didn't had the personality of the first film and a 10 seconds to comply type of scene. Yet, they were great in beginning in Tehran. Hearing that robot voice saying "As-salamu alaykum" was incredible and gave me chills.

I believe the first Robocop had a more in your face attitude, while this one is much more subtle. And both did each one well.

2) I left the first time with this impression but I waited a second view to comment: who else noticed how people are using the cellphone all the time? It's a cool nod to what we see today already.

The opening scene was a great way to introduce the movie, and what Ed-209 does there is just as brutal in depiction as what he did in the 1st movie, just not as graphically presented.

I do wish ED-209 had been in the movie a little bit more though, especially after the opening scene.

yea i did miss that "rivalry" between ed-209 and robocop from the original, but then it was really an extension of the conflict btwn dick jones and bob morton.

sure wish they had a bit more scenes of murphy taking on ed-209 though.

Indeed, but I believe this reflect the more scientific approach Padilha has. Robots have incredible aim, so you can clearly see how much damage they are doing to Rocobop from the beginning of the fight, he just couldn't sustain that for long.

^Agreed, Robocop didnt seem to be able to take much damage from ED-209, though he was being clever in the fight hiding behind ones leg while shooting at another, just wish the fight had gone on longer, though its about the length as the one in the original I suppose.

thats true, he was getting destroyed by those ed-209s and was able to take down a few only because he was fighting smart.

ed-209 also dominated robocop in the original, but then he had the advantage of...STAIRS!

While your boycott is silly, it happens to be spot on for this flick. Its the 2Nd worst film ive ever seen in a theater ..it was utter trash and a tragedy.

You need to see more movies if you honestly consider this the 2nd worst movie you've ever seen in theaters.

The reboot is probably the second best Robocop film ever. (Third would be Robocop 2 which isn't as bad as some folks might say, when compared to RB 3 and those stupid TV movies.)
