Just because they wouldn't use the story from the book* doesn't mean they can't call it that. Heh, just look at half of the Bond movies that get their names from the books. Some of them are barely have any similarities, and some take only the name of the book and nothing else.

I'd prefer it written as Batman: The Dark Knight Returns, though. Simply because it's the best way to sort of connect the titles, and none sounds like the odd one out. It keeps the "Batman" part linking it to Batman Begins, and the "Dark Knight" part obviously linking it to The Dark Knight


*Who knows, even though it wouldn't be a direct adaptation, they could take enough themes and ideas from The Dark Knight Returns to warrant the name.

Legends of the Dark Knight.... which is already a play on the current title.

would be a perfect title if Joker was the main villain for the 3rd movie. but then again it brings the problem of attention being taken away from Batman, which both Bale and Nolan has been quoted as wanting to avoid.

i kinda noticed-- Batman Begins, The Dark Knight.... these are names/aliases Bruce Wayne goes by. if they follow the same pattern for the 3rd film shouldnt it also bear an alias associated with Batman?
