The way the general public and the Hollywood suits would see it:

Lizard = big toothy monster villain who can duplicate most of Spidey's abilities

Venom = big toothy monster villain who can duplicate most of Spidey's abilities

The fact that Curt Connors and Eddie Brock are totally different characters would mean nothing - it just comes down to the fact that Lizard and Venom would be too much alike in action onscreen.

You get a filmmaker that can tell a good story and the public will see the difference. If you think they're dumb, then slap them in the face with an explanation. For example have JJJ say "great, it's another big toothy monster" and peter can correct him with something like "dr. connors isn't evil like eddie was, he was jsut too ambitious and he can be saved. eddie was lost forever once he bonded with the suit"
problem solved for the idiots that can't tell characters apart...since JJJ can come off as somewhat ignorant at times, putting in a scene like this wouldn't be teribly out of place and those of us that understand the character differences already can just chuckle along with the scene as we understand why it was there and who it was directed at

or goblin, enhanced strength and agility
lizard is quite different from both spidey and venom, IMO

And venom has webshooting abilities in addition to that, and that's it. A similar monster-villain in the way he would fight Spidey onscreen, except for the webbing.

Movie Green Goblin had super strength, but not Spidey's level of agility. He also relied on his armor and weapons.

Doc Ock had wall-climbing ability and super-strength in the mechanical arms, but his body was normal.

Lizard and Venom do not use mechanical weapons, and they both have natural speed and agility like Spidey. They both climb walls in a way similar to Spidey, and they both use their teeth and claws when battling Spidey. So with the exception of the Lizard's tail and Venom's webbing/tentacles, the action scenes with Lizard and Venom would be similar.

Anyway - they're both monsters. There would not be two monsters in SM3.

^Agreed. That is kind of like putting GG2 and the Hobgoblin in the same movie. They are totally different characters yet they have a lot of the same features and fighting techniques. Venom and Lizard are hulking teethy drooling monsters that are after Spider-Man. Plus the Lizard dwells in the sewers and comes out at night. Venom would most likely be out at night as well. Just too many similarities.

Who said the Lizard will be throughout SM3? He shows up at the very, very end of the movie, you know, like a cliffhanger. Same as when Harry found the Goblin's lair.

You see Dr. Connors working on his experiment throughout SM3.

You hear and partially see the transformation of Dr. Connors into the Lizard, just as Peter thinks all is well now.

hobgoblin and green goblin are MUCH more alike than the lizard and venom

but i was saying that i think lizard teaser at the end of the movie would be great...like connors finds a few scales on his body or something fun like that...they don't even ahve to show him yet so that they can do whatever they want with the ci in the next movie

though i would argue that carnage is practically identical to venom and therefore cannot be in a new movie anytime soon
and manwolf just kind of blows...besides, we've had harry potter 4 and the underworld movies to give us recent werewolves
where are the lizard monsters? godzilla was a long time ago and sucked...we're due for some quality lizard action!!

Especially since they seem to be going with scales like honeycombs for the symbiote suit. Maybe it will have some sort of reptilian DNA...to make Venom have big teeth and a long tongue. That would work perfect for Lizard and Connors set up.

After the accident in the lab, he tries so desperately to be human again, and he will do anything it takes to achieve this. It's very tragic, but I love the idea of the Lizard in SM4.

oh dear i hope not...then the lizard might be symbiote-like somehow?
maybe they can change the way connors becomes lizard, but i don't think it should be related to the symbiote in any way
they could do something like in "the fly" or the serum would be fine, too

I didn't mean he will try and blend himself in. He will be evil and be good competition for Spidey. Until Peter brings out the humanity in the Lizard. He will try and bring out Dr. Connors.

Peter will also have to stop the Lizard's diabolical plan to turn humans into what he has become.

yeah they can draw some interesting ethnic cleansing parallels having dr. connors trying to turn everyone into the "better" species like him
i imagine he could grow back the arm and decide everyone should take his serum as a preventative measure
then he turns lizard and wants everyone to take the serum to become a lizard-person
